zombie : Worthy of it's praise!

Okay so I've seen Romero's dead trilogy about a thousand times. Who needs star wars when zombies are alot more cooler. So yeah Romero puts his cast of survivors in settings like houses, and malls, and for a special few an undergound military base. anyways all hell breaks lose, zombies create havoc and movie ends. I love Romero's zombies flick but they can get a bit formulaic. Fulci puts a different spin on the zombie film with zombie. Sure all hell breaks lose, and zombies create havoc but, there's some great storytelling done. The opening scene is probably as menacing and hair raising as any of the more famous gore scenes. Fulci also uses some great visuals. The settings are as beautiful with zombies as they are without. Sure inhabiting a mall might entertain audience fantasies, but how about tropical landscapes. I love the giallo twist put on the movie also. Rather than having social commentaries like commercialism is evil, fulci gives the film mystery by having the clues revealed in some horrific, and violent ways. The end scene is probably as memorable and classic as watching Ben die in "Night". I understand where the negative reviews may come from. Romero was great at having killer audience grabbers in his films. Zombie is like the chaotic news set scene in dawn for 3/4 of the film. The other 1/4 is killer living dead action. There's good reason why zombie is not just another film about zombies terrorizing suburbia. Great locations, cinematography, and FX keep it praise worthy.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!

I must say, that after seeing this movie, I have never felt so good in my whole life!!! This is an excellent comedy story as well as a sweet and poingant romance! I live for subtitles, so this didnt bother me the least bit, for after a few minutes, you are so into the story that you forget about them until the very end. Audrey Taotou and Mathieu Kassovitz both gave EXCELLENT performances, and are totally believable as their characters of Amelie and Nino. The cinematography and use of color is AMAZING, and the film is worth watching for that alone, but besides that, its such a sweet story about a very shy waitress in Paris (shot on location)who discovers a little secret behind a bathroom tile in her house. And from then on, she devotes herself to doing good to others... but will Amelie ever do to herself what she has done so graciously for others, by seizing the man she loves? Or will she be too shy and let the oppurtunity of a lifetime pass right by her? Well, I guess you'll have to watch this WONDERFUL movie and find out!!!

a minor masterpiece of eccentricity

A couple of years ago I found and rented this 1990 feature treating life amongst the Clevelands of Kansas, which I hadn't seen for years, and discovered it had aged well; I found myself laughing out loud several times at it and as weird as all these people are, by the end I profoundly cared about them. This is the sort of little movie that is made for a cult audience because, rather like the soup Howdy makes for dinner, it's an acquired taste: you have to be attuned to its peculiar wavelength. Yes, it looks cheap by times and takes a while to get focused, but it has a real "look", some wonderful shots contrasting the dry flatness of the land with the cluttery nouveau-riche opulence of the mansion interior: Michael Almereyda had a good eye even then. This contemporary Southern Gothic conveys such a sense of detachment from life outside we could be in Gormenghast. It is wonderfully acted (especially by Suzy Amis and Crispin Glover as the directionless genius siblings, Maureen and Howard, or Mo and Howdy), inhabiting their roles so comfortably after a while you just buy the strange premise, that somehow, having survived a tornado and being apparently incapable of happiness, these people are lucky, and yet can't figure what to do with their luck. There are some truly great scenes: the patriarch soda-pop millionaire (Harry Dean Stanton, wearily bemused) telling off the gold-digger tv entertainer (an acidly pert Lois Chiles in truly dreadful dresses), then telling off his kids, then telling them the truth; the bit with William S. Burroughs in the barn and the story about Jim which never really explains how Jim fits in this story; Chris (Dylan McDermott, looking like a young Pierce Brosnan) proving himself by battling the wasps wearing a tablecloth and fedora; the scene with Howdy, Violet (Mo's daughter with Chris), Maureen and Chris all sitting on the couch staring at images of deserts on the huge tv, and contemplating the future (the images were done by Bill Viola, who did the backdrop video installation for Nine Inch Nails' last tour). And of course Crispin Glover is magnificent: always perfectly in character. His Howdy has made a cult of his epic misery, and has pursued it through cultivation of a multitude of artistic pursuits: he's like the Oscar Wilde of Kansas, striving to live up to his red velvet suit. Whether he's thrashing away tunelessly at an electric guitar, cracking a fullsize bullwhip while wearing an all-black cowboy outfit, demolishing a room, or even doing simple things like driving, he's mesmerizing, and he speaks with such wonderfully perfect enunciation, and retains such an eerie sense of control and of self, even when Maureen says suddenly, "Why are you so odd?" Well worth seeing if any of this suggests your wavelength (you know who you are!). It's good to have this on dvd, even if it is in fullscreen format and has no extras (though that lack is unfortunate, the print itself is fine).

Finally...

I bought this DVD because I had attended a Marine PT training class and wanted to have the workouts without the cost of the PT course. This DVD is the closest to the real PT course that I have found. The workouts are tough for beginners (my friend was panting 10 min. through) but with practice, you get further and feel stronger. I love the PT drills, but they kick my butt!Have fun with this one.

Jack 's anger whistling to a complacent Sandy is hysterical

The monotone Sandy Dennis highlights Jack Lemmons attempt to accept one mishap after the other as being all in the cards. The optomism Jack had and the slow degradation of it mirrors that of a real marraige, for tried and true there is always a spouse to say "i told you so", but in this case it never had to be said.

an all-time fav of mine

I practically have every single line of this movie memorized. It is the type of movie that one can never tire of. Some memorable lines in the movie are: "You don't think I'd steal something that didn't belong to me, do you?"(Hepburn) "Sorry, I spoke w/o thinking" (O'Toole) "I caught a burgular, Papa" (Hepburn) "Yes, dear, isn't that nice....a burgular! in this house?" "...Tall, blue eyes, quite good looking...in a mean, ruthless sort of way, Papa." (Hepburn)

Outlaw Star DVD Collection 1

First, this is an awesome DVD. I personally think it is better than the all popular Dragon Ball Z. This is the story of 2 outlaws,Gene and Jim,who take a bodyguard job from a lady name Rachel. We later find out that Rachel is the outlaw Hilda. Pirates attack Gene,Jim,and Hilda because the pirates are after Hilda because she stoll something from them. I'm going to let you find out the rest. This DVD is more than worth than the money you pay for it. Also, try to get the other 2 DVDs as well. All the characters are so well done. Simply amazing.

Unforgettable

Sad as it sounds, I have have watched this movie so many times I know it word for word. From the first time I saw it on ITV back in 1982 (when it first aired in the UK) it has remained the only film I can watch time and again. Try it, you'll see.

Amazing scenery and great acting

I loved hero and was skeptical about House Of Flying Daggers with mixed reviews out there, but I can say I was pleasantly surprised I enjoyed the hole movie. The scenery was amazing some of the best you will ever see, special effects top notch. The acting was great too I just sat back and enjoyed the visuals and story in a fantasy world of ancient China.
