Ah, Reese Witherspoon

A biterly caustic satire on the slick explotative thrillers of the 1980's and 90's, "Freeway" features two brilliant performances: that of Reese Witherspoon, who went on to anchor the high school satire "Election," and Keifer Sutherland, in what is his creepiest role. And yet, the movie is also as funny as hell. It may take a while for you to slip into the gear of the movie, but once you do, you find yourself laughing at the oddest things (such as Michael Weiss' oddball performance as Witherspoon's stepfather). The DVD is a fine transfer, with a decent commentary track by director/writer Michael Bright (nothing to write home about - perhaps having one of the leads on the track would have provided some more insight).

Excellent video

I found this movie to be very well done. It shows not only what some African Americans have been through, but it is also a good lesson in believing that things will work out for the best. The strength that Ruby displayed is a great lesson for anyone - always hold your head high, no matter what. I think everyone should see this movie, and teachers should teach it in their classrooms.

At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul - movie DVD cover picture
This movie is a must have for any serious horror fan

Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Mummy aside, Coffin Joe was one of the first real modern horror archetypes to grace our movie screens. Actually he didn't grace any screen in America, because he was a Brazillian creation, and that was where he remained for the most part, until Something Weird Video introduced him stateside in the eighties. The quality of video was attrocious, but there was no denying the feeling of that suspenseful hook as it went into you. At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul is not a movie that moves at necksnapping pace. Like all good movies about the darker sides of small towns, it conveys the effect of looking into a terrarium or some kind of cage. The star attraction of this tiny town cage, is Coffin Joe, the gravedigger, who holds all the citizenry in a spell of bullyish terror. Without giving too much away, Joe's dilema is that he has no son and his wife is barren. I'd say this is one man's quest to realize his dream, but you'll laugh at the irony of that statement when you see the movie. This movie could not have been done in anything other than black and white. It's scratchy, unfocused tone only adds to the dreamlike, hallucinatory quality that the story of this movie is supposed to be made of. This film also is a triumph of imagination over severe financial constraints. Shot over a period of scant days, Marins even had the bad luck of having some of the film stock stolen before he even set to shooting. Finally there is the matter of Coffin Joe himself. Like Freddy, Jason, or Michael Meyers, Joe has threaded himself through many sequels and vignettes. He is an utterly fascinating example of the complexities of the human psyche. Malicious, sadistic, there is even a touch of the heroic as he defies god and satan alike in the graveyard. There is more than one level to his character, and one viewing of this movie alone cannot pigeonhole him. Marins's (who also directed) portrayal of Coffin Joe is nothing short of electric. His performace shows that real terror sometimes is not above and beyond in the supernatural, but in what we are capable of doing to each other and to ourselves.

Secret Window, the best ever

Secret Window is an entertaining film. David Koepp (Stir of Echoes) directs the movie beautifully with a well written script. Johnny Depp does another wonderfull job acting. As a whole, the movie holds up well. The only problem i have with judging this film is that i made the mistake of reading the short story (in Twelve Past Midnight by Stephen King). I came into the theater with preconceptions, and the film was really different than the story. Koepp changed the ending, which i was dissaponted with just because it was different, but the one he replaces it with holds up. But after the movie was over, i thought that the movie was decent, and deserves more people to watch it. It didnt do so well box-office wise back in March which suprised me. But a word to the wise, rent this movie, you will be pleased

Wonderful! Wonderful!

Should be a must see for all of our youth (with a little editing).
Technically very well done. Acting also superb. Great message of sacrifice for the common good.
Can you tell I like it! Even better than GETTYSBURG. GODS and GENERALS doesn't even come close.
My all time favorite.

Sounds cool

Man on Fire has got to be one of the best movies ever made for me, this movie has everything. What i like about it is that, the first half of the movie is really emotional and calm, no fighting. but the second part is all killing and horror.
Denzel is my favourite actor and i like all of his movies and never get tired of them. And the little girl (forgot her name) is a great actress too.
i'm not a good movie critic so i'll just say go buy or rent this movie but just watch it. it is great.

The Most Underrated Movie Of Summer

I know what you're thinking, Underrated? who's he kidding? But the critics slammed this movie for no apparent reason. This is one of the better Star Wars films. The Phantom Menace in my opinion couldn't overcome the hype, or even close. But Attack Of The Clones is most certainly an improvement over that installment as well as a thrilling film for all ages. Now, I am no Star Wars fanatic, I like the movies, They were some of the best fantasy movies ever (Although honestly if you want to see an even better fantasy film check out Lord Of The Rings, Which I am a devoted fan of). This movie isn't epic by any standards but it's fun, Isn't that the point of Summer movies? This is a great film. A very Fun film. One that will go down as one of the better Star Wars Installments. Pay no heed to the critics, or if you do make sure they have a good track record in your opinion. This is Star Wars as it was made to be! Fun and exciting! If you want to see an epic thinking movie this summer go see Road To Perdition. This isn't that, but it is very simply put, A Fun movie! Who needs more of a summer film?

Beautiful movie

Excited about your new widescreen or DVD player and want to experience it with your favorite film, Titanic? WAIT! This is perhaps the worst DVD I have ever purchased (and in 3 years I've purchased many). It is not anamorphic, or enhanced for your current or future 16x9 (widescreen) tv. It has no extras such as commentaries, documentaries, interviews, or deleted scenes (from a film famous for originally having an over 4 hour cut).
I love the film. But this is worse than just a bad dvd, it's a .... I would venture to guess that this dvd was cut to capitalize on the original rush of fans who are mostly new to dvd and would buy anything "Titanic", knowing that many of these same fans will buy it again when the "Special Edition" or "Anniversary Edition" or "Awards Edition" which will inevitably come out a few years later, just to increase revenues.
Save your money or buy a used version.
