yea for julie clark

We love the baby einstein series! Our 13 mo. old is captivated by the videos. For us, the only way to get the baby to sit quietly in his highchair and eat is to put on one of the baby einstein videos. Baby Doolittle being the most recent addition to our collection, we couldn't be more pleased.
We do joke, though, because the baby is so completly transfixed by the videos, that Julie Clark- the creator- has brain-washed our child. But if it gets him to eat all his breakfast we won't complain too much.

Grab it and it will grab you back

Fans of gangster movies, especially those with some comedy will love this one. I bought this based on the reviews here, and I'm glad I did. Being a fan of movies like "Weekend at Bernie's", "Get Shorty", "Formula 51", and "The Transporter", I was not disappointed. I highly recommend this movie. It has superb editing, great acting, and wonderful music. It was so seamlessly made I have to say I am surprised this was not a big hit. But at least apparently it is getting its second wind like "Get Shorty" did some time after it was released on DVD. Don't be surprised if we don't see a sequel to this one in a couple years. I really didn't know what to expect from this movie.

It drew me along and familiarized me with the characters as we went down this winding path. The characters you thought would be killed somehow survive, and those you expected not to die are sometimes killed. The ways they are killed are often funny. There truly is genius that went into putting this all together. I didn't use the subtitles and I loved it in its raw in your face form. Most of the dialogue is easily discernable if you have watched Brit movies for awhile. If not it may take you a couple viewings to take it all in. Quite honestly I'm looking forward to watching this again very soon. It has great replayability and plenty of extras on the disc. The picture and sound quality were excellent.

Friday (New Line Platinum Series) - movie DVD cover picture
Greatly underrated

Friday is one of the few comedies that can be explicit and memorable and hilarious at the same time (the other is The Big Lebowski). It's also the film that made Chris Tucker famous outside the "Def Comedy" scene. The film is about a single day in "the hood", and features some hilarious characters, like Deebo, Red and Stanley. It also has a great number of one-liners that just seem to stick in one's mind ("What chain?", "Won't you let me have a little for my cataract?")As in most of his movies, Ice Cube is just bad. The only good thing about him in this film is that he doesn't talk a whole lot. However, the movie is rescued by Smokey (Tucker), Red (DJ Pooh) and Deebo (Tiny "Zeus" Lister), who all do a great job at playing their respective characters convincingly.Friday is a great film, and as often happens, undeserving of its bad sequel. Rent it, or buy it if you can.

I'd give it more stars if I could!!

I love this DVD. I want to do it over and over, unlike many other fitness/instruction videos. She does make you sweat and sore, but by the end she has lulled you down to practically being a relaxed puddle on the floor, ahhhhh...yeah. Makes your body feel great, 'Thank you sir, may I have another?!' Rare to find a video such as this that gives you the excersize you need but brings such a sense of calm and peace at the same time. I am also glad she went away from the talking to the camera with a cheesy fake smile and a perky aerobics voice. I much prefer her calm soothing voice. I don't understand why people are complaining that she doesn't look at the camera, why is that a big deal? I'm too busy comparing my hips to hers or in a compromised yoga position to worry about where she's looking. I much prefer her approach to the fake unblinking stare with a smile style of many other videos.
As for the content, this is not just for begggining dancers. She is so articulate in her descriptions, a fine tuning even advanced dancers need to practice to stay on top of their game. The camera work here is great too, seemed to read my mind at times. Right when I would think 'whats she doing with her feet right now?' and there it would go to her feet. She also adds in just the right promps at the right times like, make sure the jaw is soft and you realize you *were* clenching it.
I love the blending of yoga and bellydance. The yoga felt soooo good after the dance moves, but wasn't too much to not feel like a dance video. I think her choices in which yoga moves to utilize were excellent. I also love the music used and the atire Rachel chose to wear.
As for the performance, the camera work is a bit distracting at first, but please give it a chance. It will grow on you and you will stop noticing them so much. Theres too much awesome dancing going on for you not to watch it.
An Awesome DVD! I do hope she makes more, this one sits at the top of my DVD stack because I use it so much!! Get this DVD! Your body will thank you!!

Monster - movie DVD cover picture
Theron and Ricci Dominate Harsh, Unyielding Film

Charlize Theron burst on the movie scene in the usual "starlet" fashion, sexing up the big screen in such movies as "Two Days in the Valley" and "The Devil's Advocate." Her sex appeal was undeniable, and for those who had the patience to look closer at those lightweight films, her acting was generally good.

What a difference a role can make!!!! Theron virtually disappears into her role as Aileen Wuorno, "America's First Female Serial Killer," in Patty Jenkins' "Monster." While much has been made of the superficial aspects of the role (such as Theron's much-publicized weight gain and harsh, gritty make-up), Theron mastered the more difficult job of embodying the mannerisms and expressions of a woman who never really had a shot at life. A grim demeanor that occasionally melts into pure happiness, self-conscious arm gestures and hair adjustments that occasionally morph into unconscious pleasure, and a stance that goes from awkward confusion to empowered confidence -- Theron has all these down cold, so much so that you're not even aware of an actress being on screen -- you're watching Aileen Wuorno.

Aileen Wuorno, according to the film, was a cipher, a nobody condemned to a life of prostitution by circumstance and indifference. A lesser movie would have found excuses for her nefarious deeds, and while "Monster" shows that there may have been some rationale behind Aileen's killings, there is no justification.

Aileen is down to her last $5 and is making her peace with God when she runs into Selby (Christina Ricci, in a wonderful performance), a naive young gal exiled to relatives in Daytona Beach by her Iowa family so she can be "cured" over her lesbianism. These two desperate souls soon develop a tight bond, and we get the sense that the romantic "couples-skate" at the roller rink is the first moment of pure peace and joy these two have experienced in quite some time. Watch Theron's furious, hostile face melt as she sees something in Sel's eyes that she never expected -- acceptance.

With no skills but with a reproductive system, Aileen has turned to life as a highway prostitute. Her first murder is pure self-defense, but as we watch her pump extra bullets into the dead body of her attacker, we see the vast reserve of rage that has been built up inside this poor woman. Aileen learns that murder can be more profitable that prostitution, and she rationalizes her early killings with the idea that the men she's killing are scum of the earth . . . an idea that the movie (correctly) refuses to sustain.

Sel doesn't challenge Aileen, and is generally content to be kept by her new friend. Watching Ms. Ricci inhabit this weak, lost character is a wonder, for after watching her in assertive, intelligent roles ("The Addams Family," "The Opposite of Sex") one could not imagine her a little cork bobbing along in someone else's wake.

Eventually the murders catch up with the duo, and it is worth noting that Aileen's victims become less than less "deserving" of their fate (indeed, the last "john" she kills isn't a john at all, but a good samaritan at the wrong place at the wrong time). But by this time, Aileen's horrorific life has scarred her beyond redemption, and a helping hand must be chopped off before it can touch her.

Aileen's fate is a foregone conclusion - we all know how things turn out. The power of "Monster" comes in the telling -- we may shed a tear at the end of "Monster," but it's not because we know that a good woman is going to die. It's because we have been reminded that there are people in this world whose lot in life is so pathetic that their Holy Grail is merely to live a hum-drum, normal life, and there is no chance in hell for that to ever happen.

A solid movie from start to finish that is dominated by stellar acting (even the supporting actors are excellent), "Monster" is a must-see. Put it in the category of movies like "The Passion of the Christ," "Saving Private Ryan," "Platoon," and "The Accused" -- these aren't the kinds of movies that you're going to pop into the DVD player every Friday night. But these are movies that demand to be seen, and they deserve to be.

Latter Days (Unrated Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

This is just a great movie! The characters really come alive, and it is a love story that sets it apart as something special. The end of the movie has Christian talking over the shots of the skyline: "it is all good" and so it is! I absolutely loved this film! I wish that the reviewers who have a Mormon background went into some detail about the inaccuracies - I am just curious. I would recommend this to everyone, and if you have a gay teen son, be sure to let him see it. I wish that I could have seen something like this when I was a teenager.

one of the greatest movies of all time! Brilliantly acted

What a perfect movie! There were no flaws to this movie. Though not as good as the book (are movies ever?)it was the perfect screen adaptation. I don't think it could have been made any better. Marlon Brando was so good as the Godfather who despite his deeds you can't help but love. Al Pacino was also brilliant as Michael who is an amaz\ing character who few could have pulled of so well. You find yourself caring so much for the characters and loving Tom Hagan and not being upset at the movie but more the characters decisions. This movie is so wonderfull everyone should see it!

Come on critics!!!

I heard nothing but bad reviews about this movie before I went in. I try not to listen to reviews because I want to draw my own conclusion. Being a huge fan of the Matrix, I went into the theatre with an open mind. Boy, am I glad I did so.
This movie was spectacular. I found myself on the edge of my seat throughout the 2 hours +. The special effects were as good as I've ever seen on a Hollywood screen, the acting was ok, and the storyline was very good. I have no problems with this movie at all, and it amazes me that so many do.
And enough already with saying Keanu Reaves can't act. Can YOU do a better job? He brings much appeal to the screen, and sure, his voice is a little monotone and one dimensional, but he does a great job in these Matrix movies. Great movie. I can't wait til the next one.

Pure genius

What more can be said of Rowan and Mr. Bean? Every moment of this set is perfect. Avoid the movie (much of it is re-done scenes from the series) and buy this set. From side-splitting to heart-warming, you will get more than your money's worth.
