This is a "reference quality" DVD, I love it.

I liked the ending ~ I can't usually say that about movies. A sequel could easily follow, yet the ending was still satisfying to me. This is a "super hero" movie, yet, actually manages to seem plausible. Both the lead actors are great. Perhaps not the BEST movie, but I really enjoyed it, and the video and audio on this DVD are superb. This is one of few movies that I've enjoyed watching repeatedly, when combined with how good the DVD version is, that makes it a top pick to own on DVD.

Gender-Bent Punk Rock Saves American Musical!

Forget Moulin Rouge: Mitchell grabs the American movie musical by its lapels and yanks it phoenix-like from the ash heap in his brilliant cinematic debut! Think the Von Trapp Family Singers meet Iggy Pop and the Stooges. Think the Velvet Underground and Nico as presented by Rogers and Hammerstein. Subversive, hilarious, smart, gorgeous - this summer's first American must-see!

This movie was awesome!

Like my title explains, I thought this movie was so cute! My friends and I were having a sleepover, and after we got bored, we turned on the tv, and oh, behold, Passport to Paris was on! 3 girls + me were skeptical and were like, " Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen-- ugh, they are so over, but some of the other girls wanted to see it, so we ended up watching it. And the movie was good enough to keep us all awake.
Ashley and Mary played some blonde Cali. girls who are interested in some things a girl maybe interested in, boys, makeup, parties, hair, shopping, you get the pic. They aren't total airheads, they do have brains and they do use them, unlike some reviewers imply. They had their Spring Break schedule all planned when their parents decide to pack them off to Paris to visit Gramps. I found the whole- Ambassodor of France thing really unrealistic, but movies can be imaginable. So of course they were really bummmed to find out that they couldn't go to
a party with these hotties, but they were really excited that they were going to France.
They have tons of escapades in France ranging from meeting cute French guys, to shopping, meeting a model - also unrealistic, but who cares, to helping out their Grandfather. Everyone who watched the movie thought the characters they played were realistic and like us and some of our friends. I don't understand how some people thought they were airheads and making the whole blonde issue worse. I mean, it wasn't that big of a movie, that it would make French people embarrassed or make people think that all blondes are dumb. But that is just my opinion. So overall Passport to Paris is a good movie to watch, but not to buy.

Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne's Definitive Western

John Wayne was never more of a tough cowboy than in this John Ford Masterpiece, Pilgrim, and James Stewart was never more the aw-shucks embodiment of educated idealism. Together they are rivals for Vera Miles, but they are also united against the outlaw who terrorizes the territory, Lee Marvin's Liberty Valance. Marvin is almost over the top as the evil Valance, but that is sort of the point - that he is a man universally recognized as evil. The question isn't "is Liberty Valance bad?" but rather which approach is more appropriate to combat him - fighting fire with fire (as exemplified by John Wayne's Tom Doniphon, the only man in the territory who is not intimidated by Liberty Valance) or whether "law and order" should prevail, as personified by Mr. Stewart's newly arrived Eastern Lawyer, Ransom Stoddard. The first time I saw this film the way that this central conflict was resolved surprised me - one of the biggest "twists" in the Western genre.
In my humble opinion it wasn't until Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven" that another Western even approached the stature of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

WOW! WHAT A GREAT DVD SET!!!

I was very hesitant to pre-order this, due to the incredible price for 8 movies, but when i found out Universal was putting it out, I figured it had to be pretty good. And boy, was I in for a surprise to find a very nice packaged 2-disc set, with a slip-cover, even! Each disc is double-sided, which makes more sense now, for 8 movies.
My only complaint is that as nice as the packaging is, it IS a tight fit, which makes it hard to remove the inside package. But that's nothing, compared to what I was expecting. :-)
If you're an A&C fan, you MUST own this!!! and I can't wait for Vol. 2!!!!

A true tribute for America's Genius for War

Since the creation of the great American nation, every war has produced its heros. Perhaps, the greatest hero to America would be General Patton. In Geroge C. Scott's portrail of the General, he is able to capture the essence of the fallen hero. Throughout Patton's life he was misunderstood, maligned, and often ignored. A prime example of his superior's treachery would be Patton's slapping incident. The DVD version of the movie gives an audio essay which explains the situation in great detail.
In my opinion every true American should both appreciate andunderstand the movie. It presents a man who's own foresight caused his demise.

One of the most powerful films I've ever seen

Truly magnificent film. I've only seen it once; it was actually so moving that I haven't been able to sit through it a second time. Saving Private Ryan and the end of Schindler's List came close to it in emotional impact, but the plight of these two children hits you on a much deeper level. A masterpiece in animation and film in general.
