wonderful wit, sassy and charming

Jean Arthur, Cary Grant and Ronald Coleman are at their best. One laugh after another and still the film manages to show the three in a round robin of wit. And there is even a plot!

very funny and very good

After watching Strictly Ballroom over 100 times, I tried to pinpoint exactly what made me love it. The fact that it's set in Australia is fun and a twist. Scott is attractive, and Fran blossoms throughout the movie. The dancing is awesome. The dialogue is witty. The best thing about this movie is it's magic. It's a movie that sweeps me away, and makes me feel a part of it. See it. You'll love it.

Very Informative, very interesting.

I first saw this film by Timothy Ferris when it came out last fall on PBS. I thought it was wonderful and utilized a large number of well known scientists to help explain the history of the search and its current trend. I do agree that if you have a background or working knowledge of science (especially astronomy and other physical sciences) it would prove to be benficial in understanding the more complex matter. In either case, there is a good deal to be learned about the universe from this film.

Ashton Kutcher in a serious role??

When I heard that Ashton Kutcher was in a serious role, I thought it was going to be a real flop. I'm so used to seeing him in movies where he plays a complete doofus. This movie, however, is terrific! It's about a guy named Evan Treborn who as a kid used to black out traumatic experiences that happened to him. He now has to go back in time and change things. When Evan was little he was asked to write a journal, so now when he reads those stories years later, he finds himself taken back to that day, and he is able to change all the mistakes he made as a kid.

At times this movie seemed confusing. As it kept going back and forth from present to past, it was hard to tell what was happening. It made perfect sense because all the puzzle pieces came together in the end.

Star Trek - The Original Series, Vol. 40, Episodes 79, 99 & 1: Turnabout Intruder/ The Cage (B&W/Color Version) / The Cage (Full Color Version) - movie DVD cover picture
And so a series of DVDs comes to an end

With the release of Volume 40, the complete series of Star Trek: the Classic series is now on DVD. The editorial above is in error however. The copy of "The Cage" referred to as Episode 1 is the half and half copy which when released on tape originally was introduced by Gene Roddenberry. The one called episode 99 is the completely coolorized copy which was first shown to tv audiences (the first ever tv showing may I add) in the middle of a Star Trek documentary that aired in between the first 2 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation (which will probably start coming out on DVD next month). It continues to be the only copy of "The Cage" aired in syndication nowadays. It was also released on videotape after the whole series was released on tape henceforth the number "99" (there were only 79 episodes counting "The Menagerie" as 2 but since Paramount counts it as 1, there are 79 with "The Cage"). With all of Classic Trek on DVD now after slowly coming out for 3 years, and all 9 movies available on DVD (as of November) again after slowly coming out for 3 years, we can look forward to the 10th movie on the big screen soon, and it's DVD months later as well as DVD releases of the sequel series (plural) Star Treks: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. Of course if Paramount releases them as slowly as they did the above mentioned 49 discs and the 3 box sets of the movies, it is safe to say it will be at least 10 years for all of them to come out being their are at least 150 episodes of each of the above series, each having aired 7 seasons. By then the new prequel series Enterprise will be only a memory and who knows if they will have been out on tape by then. Hopefully also by then DVDs will be a lot less expensive as a collective (pardon the pun). In the meanwhile, congratulations to Paramount on finally releasing the entire Classic series and all the movies to date on DVD.

If WWE read it please look the128 reviewer in WM XX

Yea its odd to review a product that isn't out yet... but it is. You see its just a nice collection of already available matches from Benoit's long and brutal career. The fact that it has Benoit vs William Regal from the Brian Pillman Memorial Show kicks 29 kinds of ass! I guess its one of the best indie matches of that year and I can't wait to see it. Plus you get the match Benoit put on against Kurt Angle from the 2003 KOTR, which was one of the best WWE matches that year, if not ever. You won't be disappointed if you like either Angle or Benoit, and missed out on this payperview. Its worth the price of a dvd alone. Plus you get to see him take on Sabu in ECW, and see him in the legendary Super J Cup from Japan! (...) But back to Benoit... This DVD will have the best matches he has been in, if you like him, get it, you will enjoy.

Jacob's Ladder - movie DVD cover picture
The most mind-twisting tale ever ! !

"Alive and dreaming, or dead and remembering ?" is the ambiguous world of unlucky Jacob's Singer; a man toggling between the perplexing realm of life and extinction.
After suffering a fatal wound during combat in Vietnam, Jacob Singer is left seeing his life flash before his eyes -- his life, that is, mixed with terrifying, demonic images conjured by Jacob's own fears and anxieties concerning his ultimate situation; death.
Another Adrian Lyne film, Jacob's Ladder is an excellent portrayal of one man's foray into afterlife --- the twist, however, is that this movie does not depict the dying process as being the trite clean and peaceful transition seen in other thanatological films. Personally, I feel this movie certainly compels the viewer to question the status of one's own capacity in dealing with such a situation; as it's been said "Those closest to death are the least capable of accepting it" [excerpt: film "Faces of Death" series]. Jacob's Ladder utterly expresses this concept.
By augmenting the intercutting of the various time span experiences in Jacob Singer's life, the director (Adrian Lyne) accomplishes unyielding pandemonium in the mind of the viewer. Thus, all reference to the proper time-sequence of Jacob's life is so offset, the viewer of this film is constantly left mostly confused at realizing which part of Jacob's life is true, distorted, or if it ever took place at all.
In the end, the movie conveys a very compelling & powerful message, as it induces the notion..."the outcome of death is one's own resolution ("If you're dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but it you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels freeing you from the earth [it's a matter of how you look at it]; excerpt: film "Jacob's Ladder")."
Jacob's Ladder is an excellent film about life going into death. A must for anyone involved with Thanatology, Theology, /or psychology. And for the moviegoer seeking a meritorious psychological-twister, Jacob's Ladder offers a remarkable mind-binding experience.
ADDITIONAL PLUSES for this DVD: Deleted Scenes, "Documentary" the makings of this film (aptly informative), and the Director's Commentary.

45 minutes of glorious Kate Bush

Kate Bush paved the way for most of today's crop of female singer/songwriters (i.e. Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan and Fiona Apple). However, none of them have ever been able to match the true original that is Kate. Although really just a longform music video for "The Red Shoes" album, Kate does a nifty job of retelling the classic story of the dancer who gives up her soul to a pair of evil red slipperrs. The real pleasure here is watching Kate's dancing prowess and her always expressive face. Miranda Richardson is also delightfully wicked as the frazzled ballerina who tricks Kate into taking the red shoes off her feet. Glad to see it's coming to DVD as well. Hopefully, they will get Kate's "The Whole Story" on DVD as well. This is a collection of her video clips and is a masterpiece in its own right.

Excellent Film

Don't listen to those other people, this is a really good film. Since when do you have to walk away from a movie feeling different? Since when does a movie have to MOVE YOU to be "good"? I went to this movie and got exactly what I wanted: 2 hours of unencumbered escapism. No lavish special effects, no figuring out who Keyser Soze is, just a good use of $7 for a movie ticket. So there! Enjoy this movie, it's entertaining!

Aladdin (Disney Special Platinum Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Disney at it's best!

This is Disney at it's best. The animation is fluid and bright, the voice talent is top notch, the music is amazing and the script is incredible! This was made during Disney's second Golden Age and along with the other movies of the 90's it helped Disney grow into a huge global entertainment powerhouse. It's kind of sad that they haven't put out anything as good as this lately, but I have hope that one day they will.

Robin Williams steals the movie as The Genie. He is my all time favorite Disney character and he is in top form here. The rest of the cast is great, especially Gilbert Gottfried as Iago. The soundtrack is full of some catchy and upbeat music that I bought the CD and wore it out and then bought another!

Some of the Arab characters do seem a little bit stereotyped, but nothing too offensive.

Also I'm sure the DVD packaging will be great. Disney has really improved at packaging their DVD's and including interesting and worthwhile "extras."

Overall, almost everyone will enjoy this movie and I cannot wait to add it to my collection.
