what fun....

This movie coms from the director of ' the limey'...i think. anyways. this movie was FUN.
tons of fun shots and good cast. Bernie Mac and the lil chinese dude took me by surprise but they knew their roles. they did not 'overact', which i think what most minor actors do a lot in movies....
Daniel Ocean( George Clooney), fresh out of jail decides to rob 3 most richest casinos in LasVegas owned by Andy Garcia, who stole his wife away from him. Him and his 'eleven's, with their well thought out plan, starts to work, to get their 11somethin million each....
very very VERY fun, kind of gave me a feelin of watchin SNATCH by Guy Ritchie. perfect pace, lots of laughs, awes, and yeses.

Lockhart's Ace of Spies

This account is a somewhat romantic view of the life of master spy Sidney Reilly, who was the model for Ian Fleming's James Bond. The series attempts to convey the era from the turn of the century in 1900 to post World War 1 Europe and possibly beyond with the activities of a British spy who infiltrated countries and pilfered valuable top secret information to the delight of the British Admiralty. Reilly first appears in Baku, where he has information of a secret report on Russian Oil exploration and info on middle east oil. Another assignment finds him in league with the Japanese in the Russo-Japanese war attack on Port Arthur. He also steals valuable plans from a German firm in charge of making guns for ships by working as a fireman. Later in perhaps the most interesting period, he is involved with representing the British and interacts with Lenin, Dzerzhinsky, and other familiar Bolsheviks during the period of the Russian revolution and executes a grand plot with Lockhart to topple the government in favor of placing himself as the head. Only Kaplan's shooting of Lenin after a factory speech spoils the timing of the revolt, or so we are led to believe. What is great about this series is the insight you receive during a somewhat murky period of Russian history, amist all of the womanizing, drinking, partying and debauchery that our hero engages in during his adventures. This is a VERY romanticized account of Reilly's life and concludes with the idea that he was killed by KGB agents under the charges earlier sentenced in absentia by a Bolshevik court for anit-revolutionary activity. Instead, he may have gone over to the Bolsheviks and may have still been operating during the second world war. His allegiances were always based on how much was being offered but he was still basically a Russian and there was evidence presented after this film was made that pointed to a possible defection. Sam Neill is excellent as Reilly and he has a host of familiar British actors surrounding him that are all veteran character players. This is an excellent work, well worth the viewing.

Remembering 1985

Adam Sandler is best known for playing basically idiots who sense of humor doesn't extend much past the bathroom. While he is very funny and great at playing those characters, he was painting himself into a corner. He really turned heads with his portrayal of Robbie Hart in The Wedding Singer. The movie takes place in a Northern New Jersey town circa 1985. Robbie is a popular wedding singer who is about get married himself. He meets Julia who is a server at the catering hall he performs at. She too is engaged and they strike up a friendship. Robbie is stood up at the altar and sinks into a depression. He is revived out of it by Julia, whom he then falls for. He finds out that her fianc? is a jerk who fools around on her. He eventually wins her in the end and the movie closes with Robbie and Julia marrying. Mr. Sandler plays Robbie with a sensitivity and charm that he had previously never revealed. You really feel for him and care what happens to him. Drew Barrymore is stunning as Julia and she plays her with a romantic innocence. The clothes, hair and set designs are all classic 80's stuff and if you grew up in that time, they will elicit laughs as well.

Get it for the episodes, not the special features

Sherlockians everywhere: Jeremy Brett is the Master. If you haven't seen these episodes, or any of the others featuring the late Mr. Brett, you're missing a treat. I was a great fan of Basil Rathbone until I stumbled upon the Brett/Burke duo some dozen years ago. Now I can't imagine anyone else bringing Sherlock Holmes to life.
This collection features thirteen great episodes actually based on what Conan Doyle wrote. This is Holmes in all his moody eccenticity, from the mouse coloured dressing gown to the seven percent solution. This is also a Watson I was relieved to see, not the bumbling idiot that Nigel Bruce made him, but a solid reliable citizen with his own sort of intelligence: the perfect foil for a Holmes who pointedly ignores social convention. (Edward Hardwicke took up the role of Watson after this season, but I really prefer David Burke's portrayal.) The translation from page to screen is not exact -- e.g., bits of conversation from "The Sign of Four" appear in "Scandal in Bohemia" -- but there's nothing that came out of the blue.
AS far as a DVD collection goes, this is an odd one. The special features are nothing to write home about and the 13 episodes are formatted weirdly onto five discs where 3 or 4 certainly would have done. In some of the early episodes the sound is quite distorted, as if the DVDs were copied from well worn video tapes without the copy being cleaned up in any way. But all of that made no difference to me, because I'm so pleased to have these episodes and be able to watch them any time I want.
NOw if only they'd release the rest of the series in DVD sets!

One of the best shows ever.

While I haven't actually watched the DVD release yet, I have seen almost every show of this off the wall comedy several times. The chemistry of the cast is great, and the timing of the humor is paced just right. Phil Hartman's character is so funny that he could have led the cast and turned it into his own show. But he allows Dave Foley to lead the cast and each character is as important as the others. And because of this, when Phil Hartman died, the show didn't die with him. In came Jon Lovitz, who's contrast to Phil is very welcome and showed that there is no replacing the one and only Phil Hartman. It is a shame the show never build a following. Cancelled after five years, I discovered this gem of a show on Cable and found it really enjoyable. In an age where most TV sitcoms are stale, unfunny, and use the same jokes for every episode (example Friends, King of Queens, and That 70's Show), this great series is one for the ages, and one that is great to watch over and over. Don't miss it.

Excellent!

I remember seeing this for the first time back in the day. It was probably the fascination with the "man with no name trilogy" but this film is just as classic as those. The story is your typical "revenge" tail but this adds a bit more to it. First of all the character is dark and aloof which really helps set the mood for this film. Its dark its fun its ultra cool! If you liked the man with no name trilogy, hang em high or pale rider see this!

Intelligent Action

This is the best-written, best-directed, best-acted action flick I have ever seen. Antoine Fuqua handles its complicated sequences and plot convolusions masterfully. Denzel Washington gives us a controlled and yet explosive portrayal of a character whose multiple layers peel away until we see the raw creature at the core. Ethan Hawke does his best work in years. Fuqua also uses an incredible supporting cast to their best advantage, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Macy Gray. The scene of her screaming over the fence at Washington is worth the movie all by itself. The dialogue is consistently intelligent. It has been ages since I've seen a script that tells a such a complicated story so effectively. And, last but not least, the production values are worthy of the rest of the film. This movie is a treat for the eyes, the ears, and the mind.
