Waiting for something special ???

There's not much that Pixar puts out , that doesn't come back , in gold bullions. In other words , all of their past films have been money making franchises. From Toy Story to Finding Nemo. In this case , their latest production, " The Incredibles " , is no different. The film is fantasic and incredibly delightful to watch. I actually took my kid to see it , opening weekend. I couldn't decide wheter to see that or the Will Smith , one. Luckily , we chose wisely. My son was amazed and harldy moved from his seat , as the film rolled. That in itself, speaks volumes , because he's only 22 months old. I think that one of the most amazing and impressive things about this film is that it's desined not only for kids , but for everyone. It's got that Bugs Bunny , touch. The touch that moves the kids and imagination in all of us. It not only has phenominal cgi , but "The Incredibles" , has one of the best written scripts, of most of films, released this year. I was highly impressed with the charactor breakdowns and the energetic pace, that I plan on seeing it again. "The Incredibles" , earns it's title and places the level of cgi entertainment, even higher , for future filmmakers. Not only in the cgi , genre.....but in making entertaining and unforgettable films , altogether. Definately a film , that you'll want to catch , while it's still in theaters !! Then , after all the dust has setteled and it gets on dvd....you can place it beside it's predecesors and have Pixar night. Bottom line: " The Incredibles" is the best you're gonna get ......for a looooooooong time !!!

The Best Of Disney

In the mid-1980s, the Walt Disney Company wanted to break out into a market in which they could target more than just the family audience and have some mature themes. Thus, Touchstone Pictures was born- their first film being Splash!

THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN was produced under the Walt Disney Pictures banner, but it quite easily could have been produced by Touchstone Pictures since it goes slightly beyond the regular Disney family fare. Set during the Depression, it tells the story of a teenage girl called Natty Gann (played by Meredith Salenger who would go on to guest star in the second season of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and the fifth season of "Dawson's Creek"), who travels across America to be reunited with her father, who due to necessary circumstances has had to take a job on the other side of the country. Along the way, Natty is befriended by a Wolf and a fellow traveller (John Cusack of "Serendipity".)

This movie is what it is. It's not particularly action-oriented, or overly-romantic (a fake kiss between John Cusack and a much younger Meredith Salenger - probably due to various child laws - is towards the end of the picture). The cinematography is excellent and looks natural and beautiful, and the film travels at a nice pace. Being that this movie is what it is, it does a beautiful job at being just that.

The DVD has no special features at all, and the film is only broadcast in Dolby (2.0) Surround, but there probably wasn't much extra material made at the time. This film is quite possibly the best of Disney's live action movies and it has a special place in my heart. Maybe it'll find a special place in your heart too.

The Boys from Brazil - movie DVD cover picture
A scary film with modern day ramifications

Lawrence Oliver and Gregory Peck are chillingly adept as Nazi Hunter and Nazi in this surprisingly good 1978 Science-Fiction.

Also look out for James Mason, Prunella Scales and Steve Guttenberg who have small roles in this intriguing movie that is surprisingly suspenseful.

Oliver plays a determined Nazi Hunter based on real life Simon Wiesenthal who sets out to find the elusive Dr Mengele, portrayed by Peck who has been hiding out in South America since the end of the war.

In his search Oliver makes a ghastly discovery: Mengele has been experimenting with genetics and has managed to clone several copies of Adolf Hitler, all now living in different countries growing up as supposedly ordinary boys with a deadly difference. Mengele's plan is to recreate Hitler's early in as many ways as possible, from placing the children with docile women married to aggressive and overbearing fathers, to the death of the boys fathers early on in the cloned Hitler's lives. Mengele hopes the environment he has woven for these boy-clones will be self-fulfilling and that they will follow in Hitler's footsteps, thus resurrecting the Nazi order of 30 years ago.

What Mengele hasn't counted on though is the interference of a determined Nazi Hunter in the shape of Oliver, as well as Israel's deadly Secret Service in the guise of Mossad who have no intension of a Fourth Reich rising from the ashes of the Third. There are several disturbing scenes such as Mengele's attempt to genetically alter some South American Indians, and the Doberman dogs trained to kill on command. One of the best performances is given by the young cloned Hitler played to perfection by Jeremy Black whose vivid blue eyes are a constant reminder of who and what he could become.

Mengele is ironically killed by one of the clones who finds out that the Doctor ordered the death of his father, and in a calculated act of compassion spares Oliver's life, and inadvertently saves his own because Oliver is the only person left alive who knows in where all over the world the cloned children are living.

Oliver refuses to tell Mossad where the children are, because he knows they will be killed, thus bringing into the storyline the element of ethics where genetics is concerned. Despite heavy critical panning, "The Boys from Brazil" is both suspenseful and chilling and Oliver and Peck give credible performances as Jew and Nazi hell-bent on each other's destruction.

Considering this film was made in a time when bad film were in abundance "The Boys from Brazil" is worth renting or buying if you have the chance. It probably is one of the first films to look at the concept of genetics with any real intelligence and for that alone you can forgive Peck his over dyed black hair, and Oliver's attempt at a proper German accent.

rings

The last thing Benjamin'd want is for some sycophant to "justify" his life. Jem Cohen does as is his want in evoking the life of a true elysian navigator: pastels, washes, cinematic perfumes. Throughout it all Benjamin riffs; his grit betraying a lucidity that many choose to ignore.

Finally on DVD in letterbox format!

I finally got to see this movie for the first time in years on DVD. It's just as good as I remembered it being. Fast-paced and funny, cleverly written and superbly acted, marvelously adult and fun for the whole family at the same time. This is the only role I've ever liked Streisand in, and her banter with Ryan O'Neill is so good it should be required learning in acting school for today's "comic" actors. Buy this movie and prepare to laugh your head off.

Smart, funny, fast, and cool

Yes cool! You've got to be on your toes to watch this fast paced, fast thinking, fast talking, comedy/suspense/gore-fest....written and directed by none other than Guy Ritchie. It is smart and back and forth and sideways, but it is incredibly entertaining, now I'll try to explain it somehow. Del Toro steals a diamond, Pitt gets into a fight, everyone want the diamond back, no one understand Pitt when he talks, and then there's the squeaky dog. If that didn't make sense, watch the movie....you'll be lost too, for the first half hour, then it'll all be coming together, then everyone gets their own in the end and I can't say everyone lives happily ever after, but it works out. It's well worth the ride, I hope you enjoy it....there's bungling robbers, the Russian guy who won't die, and that boxing promoter from hell who owns a pig farm.....trust me watch. Ritchie has some imagination!

I'll probably like it, Wesley Snipes is suing over it

I havent had the chance to see the movie yet, however I will tomorrow when we get in at our store a few days before we release it. I am a die hard fan so despite the fact it is the weaker of the 3 even though its kind of hard to top the 2nd I will probably like it. However despite all of this you might be interested to know of what Wesley Snipes thinks about the movie.
Snipes has sued New Line Cinema, writer-director David Goyer and executive producer Toby Emmerich in a wide-ranging federal lawsuit seeking more than $5 million in damages, Variety reported. In the suit filed April 18 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Snipes alleges that, in violation of his contract, the director, screenplay and supporting cast of Blade: Trinity were forced on him. He also claims he's still owed a portion of his fee and that he was harassed and defamed because of his race, the trade paper reported. New Line declined to comment to Variety. Goyer wrote all three Blade scripts. According to the complaint, however, Snipes had concerns about his directing the third film in the trilogy and was not informed until six weeks before filming began that Goyer would direct. Similarly, he was not given an opportunity to object to the "juvenile level of humor" in the screenplay and the change in focus from the Blade character to two sidekicks, played by Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel. Snipes claims the real purpose of Blade III was to set the stage for spinoffs featuring other cast members, the trade paper reported. Snipes blames Goyer for the critical response to the film, citing reviews describing Goyer as a "disastrous choice" and calling the film a "bloody mess." Blade: Trinity, released last December, has grossed $52 million at the domestic box office. Snipes alleges that he is still owed over $3 million on his fee.
