the love scene

There isn't much left to say after reading the other reviews. I would agree with all of the positives. It is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. The nuances of acting by all of the main characters is sensational, and reduces the need for thick dialogue. The ending left something to be desired, but the writers did the best they could considering the direction the plot had taken. The best part of the film, however, was the love scene between Forlani and Pitt. It was breathtaking and moving, the angles and lighting were immaculate, and the music is romantic yet poignant, and I the whole construction nearly brought me to tears. It was phenomenal, maybe the best I've ever seen.

Best Movie of All time

At last this 1965 slapstick goodie from the pen of Blake Edwards has made it to widescreen DVD! I first saw it when I was a kid, and I've never forgotten one of my all-time favorite comedic moments: Jack Lemmon, as the dastardly, nefarious Professor Fate, his faithful manservant and whipping boy Max (played wonderfully by Peter Falk) arrive at one of their stopover towns for refueling and refreshment. Lemmon sees that their arrival is going improperly unheralded, so he rises slowly, majestically, removing his tall black hat, and announces, "I. . .AM PROFESSOR FATE!" Absolute silence. He perfectly reverses the rise, as if he is being agonizingly rewound, the hat going back on his head. His handlebar moustache, which all true Villains must have, twitches slightly.Max tells the villagers that they are connected with the Great Race, and happy pandemonium erupts. Some may say that the movie is too long, that it's too big, that it's too over the top, but that is the point. Edwards wanted to pay tribute to his comedic heroes, most especially Laurel and Hardy, and this is his love letter. And don't forget to listen for one of Hank Mancini's funniest scores.Highly recommended to those with a bent toward divine silliness. Ya gotta love a movie in which the hero's teeth literally glint at you!

Every Teenager Should See This Movie

Aside from the extremely talented cast, Less Than Zero is s must see for teenagers everywhere. This movie shows just how far over the edge drugs can take you. Julian (Downey Jr.) is so dependent on finding his next high that his friends (Mccarthy/Gertz)can't even save him from himself. The movie's message is important, however, it is amazing to me that these kids are supposed to be right out of high school and Mccarthy drives a very expensive car, Gertz has money to buy cocaine and Spader is renting suites in Palm Springs! Their circumstances are a little far fetched, but for Hollywood it's quite normal, and it doesn't take away from the message of the movie.

The Ultimate Jamaican Cult Classic!

If there's one film that captures the pictorial, social and cultural essence of Jamaica and its people in one setting, then "The Harder They Come" is perhaps the ticket. Jimmy Cliff stars as a struggling musician, who goes from odd job to odd job on his way to the top in this 1972 cult classic. Aside from working his way up the nightclub circuit ladder, Ivan (Cliff) finds himself running afoul of the law in the process, an element which makes for an interesting storyline. The thick Jamaican accents make the film's storyline hard to follow in spots, although the lush Jamaican environs more than make up for the wonderfully garbled vocalization. Also, some of the "Americanizations" displayed in "The Harder They Come" provide an interesting backdrop for the hilly Jamaican terrain, such as the Shell gasoline billboard sign and Teem (remember that one?) and Pepsi-Cola beverages. It is these American items that add somewhat of a decorative touch to this insightful motion picture. Add to the cast of mostly unknowns (besides Jimmy Cliff), is the veteran Jamaican actor Winston Stona, whose appearance here is more of a cameo, playing a role as a detective. According to various (internet) sources, Stona's next major movie appearance wouldn't come until twenty years later, in a more major role in "Cool Runnings" (filmed in Jamaica as well). "The Harder They Come" would make Jimmy Cliff a household name in the annals of reggae music, alongside another reggae legend, the incomparable Bob Marley. Cliff's music, as featured in "THTC", carries with it such adaptive, effective lyrics and harmonies, both nicely illustrated in the title track and in "You Can Get It If You Really Want" - a selection which sums up Ivan's grit and determination in his desire to become a mega-superstar, proving that setting goals and striving to maintain them are what really count in life, if one is willing to persevere through difficult hardships. Although "The Harder They Come" is one stellar film that's definitely not to be missed, a perfect companion would be to add the soundtrack to this all-important purchase. But, it would be wise to purchase "THTC" today, as it is fast becoming one motion picture that will soon be hard to come by. These two above-mentioned items are the perfect compliment with a case of Red Stripe beer and some jerk chicken, so don't miss all the fun and excitement, or you'll be making one big "Jamaica Mistaica"!

Great Movie

In the world of violence and all that other stuff, who thought it would be possible to have a Live-action flim get the G-rated nod. Well it is possible, and it seems anything with Disney is possible. Academy award winner Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, are brilliant in this flim. They play the grandmother/granddaughter roll beautifully. If you are looking for a corney movie go somewhere else, because this movie was great. I give it 5 ***** and two thumbs up. I recomend it for all. Well buh bye now, and I'll see you at the movies.

An Effective and Disturbing Film

Everyone has heard of the seven deadly sins, but most people can't name all of them. Most people forget a couple, but after seeing this movie I do not think I will ever forget any one of them. The movie is powerful and well-acted by Morgan Freeman, and (surprisingly) Brad Pitt. The premise alone is ingenious, maybe, even the best concept for a thriller in a long time. I have a feeling the screenwriter, Kevin Walker, will be a high commodity for a long time.
What is the premise? Well, it's about an extreme righteous killer named Jon Doe (played by the ever talented Kevin Spacey) being tracked down by two detectives, the soon-to-be-retired Somersett (freeman), and the new kid, Sims (Pitt). Although we never see the deaths take place, we do see the aftermath which is very unsettling and let's your mind wander on how it all took place, the torture Jon Doe put them through. When Jon Doe is told that he is killing innocent people he responds, "innocent? Is that supposed to be funny?" then says why those people deserved there death sentence, each linked to one of the deadly sins, of course. Then when you think the movie is unsettling enough, the ending will push you over the edge. GRADE: A

A Beautiful Film

A friend of mine raved about this movie to me for months. They were in love with this film, so I decided I should rent it to see how it was.
I must say I am not a foreign film fan, to say the least, but I am so glad my friend encouraged me to give this one a try!
Am?lie is simply wonderful; you would have to be of another species to not fall in love with this wonderfully charming film. After renting this movie and paying the late fees, I've decided to order this movie from This is a movie you can watch over and over again and truly appreciate. 5 stars for sure.
