stop whining book lovers

since when was this movie supposed to be based on the book? I actually enjoy the movie for the sake of it being a MOVIE not an INTERPRITATION OF THE FICKING BOOK!!! So if you are planning to compare it with the book, I suggest that you save your money, shut up,read your beloved books in the other room, and leave us alone.

I want a joint of some Labrador too!

If you believe in the all mighty, super skunky green, you'll love this movie. Nothing better than watching two hippies get baked, win the Battle of the Bands, all because of the stickiness. But then you have the mob trying to get their shipment, and the cops blowing out their own tires, and just getting baked out of their gords. A true comedy of America's stoned culture. Keep on smokin... Why not the President can in the white house and lie about it. Why can't we just smoke and be free. No control, just freedom to explore your own mind. Be safe to all you stoners out there, and remember it is always 4:20... Much Love...

Stunning!

Tom Hanks delivers another top notch performance as a prison guard on death row. Stephen King has written what will become an American classic about a black mansentenced to death and wrongly accused of mudering two little girls. Don't be concerned with trying to hold back the tears, I've seen this movie make hardened, grown men cry. King is no longer just a master of horror fiction, he has proven he can write a deeply moving story about life, love and friendship. By far his best work to date.

one word sums up this series- cool. set in 2071, earth has been rendered nearly inhospitable so people have moved to the void of space. the series follows the adventures of a group of cowboys (bounty hunters) called spike, jet, faye, ein and ed.each episode follows them trying to catch a different bounty. the animation is amazing. considering this is a tv series a lot of money has been spent on this. though not used all the time, cgi has been utilised to great effect. it merges with the conventional cel animation very well. the dubbing is right on. its actually better than the japanese voice acting, as there are a lot of different dialects used, from african-american to russian. music wise, it deserves awards. yoko kanno (plus the seatbelts) have created a soundtrack that includes lots of genres of music, with the main one being jazz, but also including heavy metal, classical, techno etc. amazing. if youve got money to spare buy this now. i have the entire series, the film and the 3 manga volumes. a worthy investment indeed.

The beginning

When watching these 13 episodes from the inaugural season of the Simpsons, it's amazing to see how far the long running show has come. Created by Matt Groening and originally a short appearing on the Tracy Ulman Show, the Simpsons introduces us to a family of five in the town of Springfield (which state it is in is purposely kept annonymous). Oafish father Homer works in the local power plant, his nagging wife Marge has a ridiculous hair-do, and their children are baby Maggie, genius Lisa, and of course, trouble making Bart. While the crude animation and some of the "lesson-learned" storylines aren't as sophisticated as what would come in future seasons, there's still plenty of gold here: the family adopts beloved dog Santa's Little Helper, the family go to shock therapy, Bart saws the statue head off of town founder Jebediah Springfield, and Bart's TV hero Krusty the Klown gets imprisoned which leads Bart to his first altercation with wicked Side-Show Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammer). While these first episodes aren't the best of the series, this Season 1 collection is still a must have for Simpsons fans, and new fans to the series can go back to see it's humble roots.

the 'Z' that stands for Zorro....

I've been a Zorro fan for years now, and was so excited about the release of this movie, with Antonio Banderas as the masked man himself. (Who, I hear, is the first Spanish Zorro ever.) It's full of action, romance, and comedy. You'll love it! :)

Best of the OUATIC series

In my humble opinion, this is the best one of the OUATIC movie series. The movie is not only great for the graceful fightings. It also strongly shows the feeling of the hotblooded patriots to find a way out for China during the time of chaos at the beginning of this century.
The best Kungfu movies never emphasis on violence and this moive is indeed a good example. There are many good fighting scenes which well reflect the characters and are beautifully choreographed. I am especially fond of the fighting scene between Wong Fei Hong and the offical, in which when Wong Fei Hong went to ask the offical to give refuge to the children, the official raided him aggressively and they fighted with staffs. The sentiments from both sides, villainy and righteousness, are poetically presented though their movement. So much better than those meaningless violent fightings.
OUATIC I and II are truely great movies, while the rest of the series, though pleasant to watch, are not as good. The movie shows the best of Jet Li along with fist of legend. Pity he acted in some really lousy movies too, especially some (all) of those he made in Hollywood.

Finally got to see a Classic

After finishing the book, I had to see the movie. I began to grow very frustrated when I realised that you couldn't get a copy of the movie on DVD in Ireland. So onto Amazon I go and low and behold not only do I get myself the Movie in all it's glory, but I also receive a real collecters item in the 'Criterion Collection'. All the extras are amazing, including a really interesting documentary with the real 'Dr. Duke'. Overall classic movie and a DVD must have! Cheers, Alan Healy, Dublin, Ireland

Evolution over time--9 years later vs. Now

This movie and the prequel, Before Sunrise, must truly be enjoyed together. When I saw the first movie as a high-schooler nine years ago, I was amazed at the concept of a truly profound connection developed in a short time with a stranger. It hit me so hard because I had had a similar experience: meeting someone for a night and talking about everything in my little, young life all night long. Unfortunately, it was not in an exciting city such as Vienna, Austria, but in a Denny's in small-town Oregon.

Now, viewing the sequel as a citizen of the world 9 years later, I have learned so many of the same lessons that the characters have learned. I see so much of myself in their conversations and appreciate the gravity of re-connecting with someone from your past. This movie ties together two very different points of time, and more importantly, two very different points of these people's lives. As time moves forward, the best part of being in relationships, whether romantic, familial or friendships, is to see people grow. Seeing these two characters and their growth over the 9 years is like seeing myself and my friends grow as well. I appreciate the lessons they have learned and feel more connected with the world b/c I have shared so many of the same lessons.

This movie and its prequel appeal to me because I feel like like I personally relate to the characters. I recommend watching the first and second movies together (if you haven't seen the first) and reflecting on your own views and choices nine years ago versus the present. However, if conversation and reflection bore you, I recommend you don't watch either and rent a mind-numbing action flick.

A little goes along way.

One of Spielberg's great films. Before Jaws even came out, he took the then unknown concept of "Road Rage" and portrayed it into an intense Thriller. Dennis Weaver portrayal of a mild-mannered business man, on his way home from a trip and being terrorized by an unholy trucker, to be over the top. Weaver goes from anger to denial to fear and back to anger again, as he deals with one PO'd truck driver with an axe to grind. Since the truck driver is never shown in the film, the truck itself takes on a meanacing form for Weaver and the audience. One would never think that something as road rage could be elevated into gripping on the edge of your seat thriller.
