Black Adder II - movie DVD cover picture
quality comedy

I bought this DVD because I remembered enjoying it during my days as a student in England. Time has not withered Blackadder! Since it isn't 'topical', it's as funny now as it ever was.

There are only 6 episodes on this disc, plus a few extras, but I think it is worth the price. I have watched several of the episodes over and over again. The quality of the writing is good, but I think the strength of it is that the actors are amazingly well chosen. I can't think of a single living comedian who could deliver some of these deliciously dry lines, (usually weakly disguised insults), as well as Rowan Atkinson. Lord Percy is hilariously effete, Baldrick is a lovable dim-witted servant, Queen Elizabeth is a squealing, spoilt schoolgirl, and Stephen Fry is a great foil for Blackadder.

Buy this! You won't regret it. Anyone who appreciates well crafted comedy would enjoy this, particularly if they have an interest in history too!

Excellent only one flaw

a great movie that opened the doors for Jurassic Park. Not as good as the original very close though. Basically the same idea as the original only instead of kill the mother its kill the kid himself. Great special effects and the best special edition to ever be made. Actors played their parts well the only flaw is; the original is based in 1984, they had sex in '84 which meant the kid was probably born in '85. they have the kid as a thirteen year old in T2 making it the year 1998 yet they say the earth blows up in the year 1997. Understand? there is more information in T2 that backs it up but other then that a must get.

This is one of the favorites in my DVD collection!

Everyone loves Weird Al. He's just like the crazy best friend we all had as a kid. I own this DVD and have seen it over and over, and there's always something new. It's loaded with sight gags, wacky spoofs, satire, and just plain crazy fun. It's especially funny if you watched a lot of MTV as a kid. My favorite is an Al original titled "Dare to be Stupid", a take-off on Devo "De-Evolution". There are many videos on this DVD which never really made it to MTV that also are very good, like "Christmas at Ground Zero". One sour note is the lack of a menu or extras of any kind on the DVD. Hey Al, when are you going to put out the Weird Al Show on DVD? I'd love to see that!

One of the best if not the best video I've ever seen.

Denzel Washington was born to play this role. It's wonderful that Spike Lee was able to take his audience through the entire history of Malcolm X. Not just his life as an adult. But we are able to see how this wonderful man became to be.

Tons of fun for EVERYONE

I had fun with Toy Story - I really enjoyed the animation and the movie was fun... but when my children wanted to see number 2 I was not as excited. Did I laugh? There is something in this movie for everyone! Lots of humour that the children did not even catch on to, and I get a bit more each time I see it!
This movie is better than the first, and has even more for the whole family than the first!

A good collection for matrix fan

Well, even if you don't ignore the second and third movies you HAVE to include this as an important part of the series. Not all the episodes are brilliant, but a few give valuable insight into the background of the film story. My favorite may be the kids playing in a "broken" area of the matrix, where the rules of physics don't seem to apply. But others include the history or the human/robot war and an incident reffered to briefly in the second film.
You cannot consider yourself a fan of the Matrix and not include this in your library.

The Sweet Hereafter (New Line Platinum Series) - movie DVD cover picture
A Genuine Look of Life after Tragedy

The "Sweet Hereafter" is an honest, realistic movie that deals in a subtle way, with strong emotions like anger and grief, and at the end manages to give a glimpse of hope.
It tells the story of a small town in Canada that suffers a tragic bus accident, losing most of its children and as a result, losing much of its happiness and joy. A lawyer, who in a way, has lost his own daughter too, is visiting the town. He tries to persuade the victims' parents, to join in a class action lawsuit.
Through his visit, we gradually learn about the people's lonely and sad lives before and after the accident. We also realize how this case is just the outlet of the anger the lawyer feels about his own life.
The film is really depressing, but it achieves in that you never feel manipulated. Its director, Atom Egoyan, helped by a superb script, never goes for the easy tears and cheap emotions.
As for the cast, Ian Holm, portraying the lawyer, and Sarah Polley (also starring in "Go!"), who plays a survivor of the accident, stand out. Holm is a revelation in a monologue, describing the incident when his daughter almost died of a spider bite. Polley uses her expressive face and eyes extensively, to reveal all her troubled emotions.
Other high points of the film include the excellent music score which follows faithfully the atmosphere, the photography, with the images of the surrounding frozen mountains, providing a successful parallelism with the parents' tortured psyches, and the use of Robert Browning's poem "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" as a powerful metaphor.

wonderful Oz 3-disc wonder

I'm 38 yrs old and I never tire of this classic film,in fact getting any old footage we can get is a real blessing,This film is really ageless and fun-opening your heart to a world were you can escape and have a good old-fashioned adventure, and friends who really stick with you. I find there's something for everyone in this movie and it doesn't have any hang-ups,like most films have today-it's just fun.
