North Shore - movie DVD cover picture
plenty of haoli surfers, but we'll blow them away, eh Vince?

This is the quintessential movie of the 80's. Think about it. It utilizes every theme that penetrated 80's cinema: the fish out of water scenario, the romeo and juliet love angle, student learns from master, regular joe overcomes incredible competition, lessons of friendship and loyalty, and a coming of age story. Man vs. Man, Man vs. Nature, man vs. himself. North Shore has it all, bra, and I have to agree, it's a religion. I never tire of watching it. Check the Mark Foo cameo, RIP, bro. Whatevers, we go.

Any La Femme Nikita fan will love it!!

I was surprised that the La Femme Nikits series was so expensive, but every penny is worth it. The deleted scenes are good as well as the gag reel's. I have no bad things to say about the DVD's.

A MUST HAVE FOR EVERY FAN AND THOSE WHO WILL BE!

First off, the dvd set is wonderful, everything works as promised. An amazing amount happens in the three seasons. Fortunately the writers were actually able to bring a very cool ending to the show when they found the show was cancelled. So the show runs from season 1 to season 3 quite smoothly. I am a male, and I really like the love story element in the show. Roswell is unique in its ability to bring off drama, suspense and comedy all in the same episode. You will not regret buying this and it is nicely priced, especially compared to such sets as Farscape and the last 2 seasons of X-Files.

L&B

Love & Basketball is not all that bad. The TV Guide's review does not really does its justice. Granted, it has a clich? story line of boy/girl growing up together and falling for each other, but there are enough twist and turns to keep things interesting. There are many layers of relationships that one has to watch more than once to be able to peal all of them back and understand them. There is the man/woman relationship in the African American community and the more general depiction of masculine/feminine gender role. What happen when one has to go conformity? What happens when it becomes too hard to be the one who stands out, the one who excels abut remains lonely? What happens when parental expectation becomes too overbearing? That is just some of the problems that the lead characters have to deal with.

Lone Star - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best films of the past 10 years

"Lone Star" is terrific as both a mystery and as a snapshot of small town America, Texas-Mexican border style. However, it is something else going on here. As Sam moves between the Hispanic, White, and Black communities in Rio County, we see how members of each group feel that their ethic group is different and separate from the others. However, in the end, the movie shows us how we are all pretty much the same and the degree that our lives are intertwined. (Look for a scene in an African-American bar where a record is playing on a jukebox. Later, virtually the same record, this time sung in Spanish, is played on the jukebox in a Mexican restaurant.) At the end of the film there is a final surprise that pretty much left me stunned while driving home the point of just how closely related to each other we all are.

LEGALLY blonde" 21st april 2004.

Some of these types of comedies, you don't know what to expect. Some of them are completely boring, some of them are okay i guess, and some of them are brill. Especcially this, never really asked for it i just saw this set of 3 videos and the other 2 were what i wanted anyway. I watched it from begginning to end and still, i could watch it again and again. And in some parts of the film, it is quite funny too. The best bit is where she gets dressed up to go out to dinner with her boyfriend and she thinks he is going to propose to her but actually he is dumping her and that part of it is funniest. Haven't yet seen legally blonde2, but i am so dying to see it the first was BRILL!!!!

30th Anniversary DVD improves a classic film

I'm a fan of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, so I was excited to learn that a DVD edition was to be published. Now that I have seen it, I have to say that it surpassed every expectation. The film has been beautifully remastered, with great color and sound. Deleted scenes have been added back into the running of the film. I was surprised at how much was cut for the version that originally went to theaters. There are awesome special features, interviews with everyone under the sun, and a whole song cut from the film's original run. The DVD has done what I thought impossible--made me love this film even more. I don't care what the other reviewers say, I like this film more than Mary Poppins. Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson are fantastic, as are all three of the kids. If you're a fan of Disney, Angela, David, musicals, or just cool movies, this is a fantastic buy.

Elton John - Dream Ticket - movie DVD cover picture
Good Buy & Must Have for Any Fan

Don't quite understand why they included the Madison Square Garden concert, which is fairly recent and still selling as a single concert (I already own it). The 4th DVD is nice, but mostly music videos. It was hyped as something more archival and it would have been nice to have seen more classic footage of Elton performing through the years instead of music videos. I would have welcomed more performances of youthful Elton, in his prime, rockin' and poundin' those ivories! (And I did enjoy viewing the evolution of Elton's stage costumes over the years.)

Having said that, the Ephesus concert is worth the price of admission all by itself. My husband, who likes some of the music but is NOT an EJ fan by any stretch of the imagination, ended up viewing almost the entire Ephesus concert with me, as astounded as I was by the visual embodiment of Elton's mastery of the keyboard. He is an absolutely awesome pianist -- something for which you don't really get an appreciation because he's usually backed by his band. But this is just Elton, his voice and his piano and, boy, does he make that piano rock! My favourite Ephesus performance is "Honky Cat".

All in all, I'm definitely glad that I own this set.

Ice Princess (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Like it, love it and it might be one of my Christmas presents!

If it's got "Princess" in the title, chances are it's a Disney flick. But Disney trailers only seem to capture a smidgen of what the movie is capable of. It uses the same "girl/boy and his dream" tactic to lure safe family audiences to the box office but you are often surprised by the outcome.

Michelle Trachtenberg was perfectly cast for the title role, but the best performance was Kim Catrall's tough and extremely disciplined Coach Harwood. A little different take from her carefree and frivolous Samantha from Sex and the City.

This film is not just about a girl who follows her dream. It highlights the tension of the parent-child relationship. Two sets of mothers with two different sets of ideals try to relive their own dreams through their daughters and the pressure is suffocating their kids. Eventually each girl learns to find her own voice and follow her heart.

Lovely film.
