one of the creepiest movies EVER

I love horror movies, and like to think I know good horror from bad horror. Violence with blood and gore alone does not make a great horror movie. What makes a horror film great is feeling terrified for the characters while you are watching it and getting that "uncomfortable" feeling yourself while watching it-(fans of good horror know what i mean)

This movie has some blood gore and violence, but what makes it great is it truely well made and creepy as hell. I hate to admit it, but I had to stop watching it 2/3 of the way b/c I needed a break. I did manage to start it again after I had recovered. It is terrifying. excellent werewolves, creepy atmosphere, tense throughout, just awesome. I dare you to watch it alone at 2:00am with the lights out!!!

buy this dvd you will not be disapointed!!!!

also, for fans of british horror, check out "deathwatch"- another creepy movie from our UK friends. not as good as dogsoldiers, but an excellent flick.

This is a must have for all Rage fans

I think that the energy that this band posesses is absolutely amazing. Just seeing the gigantic mass of fans pulsate and get so into the music, almost more than the musicians, was incredible. The band is just so awsome that I can't get enough of them. My favorite part of the video was when Tom Morello's mom came up on stage and said "(Rage is) the best band in the universe." You can't call yourself a Rage fan if you don't own this video.

Apollo 13 (DTS) - movie DVD cover picture
A thrilling story of a man's dream to go to the moon

Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks) and many of his family members and friends have just seen the first man (Neil Armstrong) walk on the moon. Jim is an astronaut, and right away, he gets the idea that he also wants to walk on the moon if it's the last thing he does.
Fred Haise (Bill Paxton) and Ken Mattingly (Gary Sinise) share that dream just as much as Jim does. Will the three friends and colleagues be able to make it through all the training exercises to prove their worthiness of taking an out of this world trip? If so, will Apollo 13 safely make it to the moon? These are a couple of questions to keep in mind while you watch this 1995 classic called "Apollo 13".
"Apollo 13" is a great movie in many ways. First of all, it has great acting (how can you go wrong with Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, and Ed Harris?) and it was directed by one of the best directors, Ron Howard. If you're either an action or drama fan, then you'll see plenty of it in this movie. "Apollo 13" also has great special effects, but it is not a movie that relies a great deal on eye-popping effects.
You'll be hooked to the screen while you watch this thrilling story of a man's dream to go to the moon. You'll see both unforgettable triumphs and suspenseful struggles. If you like suspense, drama, action, or trips to the moon, add "Apollo 13" to your collection today!

Season 2, wide or full?

As long as they keep the prices cheaper than buying the sets individually, this is a fine way for fans of the show or newcomers to catch up on it. Having 3 DVD sets at once ensures, 18 discs of Joss Whedon's great spin off from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Darker, and a bit more liberal when it comes to the whole demon thing, the show succeeds and stands on it's own. There are 66 episodes to watch...better be on vacation or sabatical!
For those new to either Buffy or Angel, I suugest the seasons of Buffy as well. Watch the first 3 seasons of Buffy, then alternate Buffy Season 4 episode, Angel Season 1 episode, Buffy 4, Angel 1...as the shows at times do intertwine if you really want to be complete. Bottom line...great DVD's. The Angel sets have commentary on numerous episodes, and all the extras that the Buffy sets have been known for. Good stuff this.

The Office - The Complete Second Series - movie DVD cover picture
Excruiciatingly funny - car-crash television which will have you squirming in your seat

This is the excruciatingly hilarious series from Ricky Gervaise - who wrote and stars in this as Officer Manager David "The Brentmeister" Brent. This is a mockumentary style series which will have you alternately squirming in your seat and laughing out loud.

This is a six part series (the second series of only two) which follows David Brent and the team at the Stationery company Werner Hogg Slough branch. They are due to be merged with Swindon branch and there may be layoffs. The office is bristling iwth rumours as it seems that people may be laid off - will they be from Swindon branch or Slough?Who will manage them all? This theme will be recognisable to all. In between it is business as usual - the same awful pettiness you get in any office, only caught on camera in and drawn out with excruciatingly funny/embarrassing detail.

David Brent is completely unaware of his utter awfulness - his complete lack of humour and his extraodinary inability as a manager. However this is done with a subtle style - there is no laugh track, nothing is telegraphed - it is left the audience how to react to what is on screen.

I think one of the reasons for its enormous success is the fact that I don't think there has been single person who has ever worked in an office and not met people like David Brent. And the office politics, gossip and romances well also be instantly recogniseable.

Ricky Gervaise FABULOUS in the part, he does it so well! But he is ably supported by the main characters, Tim who yearns for the beautiful Dawn - and by the awful sidekick and Part time soldier/territorial Gareth.

Highly recommended as teh best of British Humour!

Movie Magic Casts It's Spell.......

This review refers to Buena Vista/Miramax DVD edition(2/03 release) of "Cinema Paradiso - The New Version"......
The original theatrical release of "Cinema Paradiso"(1990)was honored with many international film awards. Among them the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Langauge film. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards bestowed on this film Best Actor(Philippe Noiret), Best Supporting Actor(Salvatore Cascio), Best Film Not in the English Language, Best Film Score (Ennio and Andrea Morricone), and Screenplay for writer/director Guiseppe Tornatore, who also was awarded the Grand Prize from the Jury at Cannes. There were many more awards and nominations too numerous to list.
You may ask why a film with this many distinctions would have a new version? Well if you have seen the original, there's a good chance you fell in love with all the characters and the 50 aditional minutes spent with them is more than welcome. Most of the additional footage not seen in the original is devoted to the star-crossed love story bewteen Salvatore(also called "Toto") and Elena, and may give you some closure to their relationship. But the beauty of this DVD is that you get both versions to relive the beautiful moments over and over and you can decide for yourself which version is your favorite. Either one on it's own will touch your heart, and both together is well worth owning on this beautiful transfer to DVD.
The story is one that will have you totally immersed. A small Italian village, post WWII is in love with film. They townfolk clamor to see whatever film is playing at their little theatre, "Cinema Paradiso". But none are more enamored by the films and the process of showing them then little Toto and his idol Alfredo, the projectionist. When Toto as a grown man and successful filmmaker learns of the death of Alfredo, he thinks back to that time in the village of his growing love for film, the girl he loved, and most of all the loving bond that grew between him and Alfredo.
This beautiful story of love and frienship is hypnotic. The actors are wonderful in their portrayals and the score delightful. It is one that will especially touch the hearts of film lovers.
The DVD is an excellent view of these outstanding films. The new version is presented in Dolby Dig 5.1 Surround. It is in the original Italian language track with English subtitles and is presented in widescreen(1.66:1)with a nice clear picture and and vibrant colors. The original theatrical version, also in widescreen is presented in Dolby Surround, which also sounds great and may also be viewed in French. There are also captions in English. The subtitles may be deleted if you choose. Other than a theatrical trailer and some sneak peeks, there are no bonus features, but for me, getting lost in Toto's world for nearly three hours was bonus enough.
Let this film cast it's spell on you...a must have addition to any film lovers collection...enjoy...Laurie

Fahrenheit 9/11 - movie DVD cover picture
It was as good as or better than Bowling for Columbine

Fahrenheit 9/11 was better than I thought it would be. I was afraid Moore would use most of the movie to poke fun at President Bush. He clearly does criticize and make fun of the president, but the film goes way beyond that.
It spells out clearly in a way everyone can understand the web of business relationships that the president's critics charge have tainted his handling of foreign policy. It puts a face to the suffering of the families of the people killed in the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
The movie is completely biased against President Bush, but it still is a valid documentary. No one going into the movie should expect it to be unbiased.
I can sort-of understand how right wing ideologues feel appalled to see a feature length film criticizing their point of view. After all, I can't think of a mainstream film this critical of the left. Rightwing ideas predominate other media, though, so I don't think rightwingers should be indignant about one movie showing the progressive point of view.
This movie is a great rallying point for people who already disagree with the president. It is not scholarly nor does it try to be.
Progressives will get good laughs and some tears out of this movie. Rightwingers will probably find the movie silly, and hopefully they will get a glimpse at how silly FOX News and other rightwing media seem to people who don't share their ideology.

You don't understand, it really IS the best film ever made.

People say it's an OK movie with a good plot and good acting, but its hardly the best ever made. Thats because all of the lighting and camera angles and other "risks" of the time were put to use in Citizen Kane. No other movive has broken so many standards in a single attempt. So do yourself a favor and put away the Matrix and Hollywood Homicide and treat yourself to some real cinema.

Horse Feathers - movie DVD cover picture
Marx to the extreme

Groucho Marx becomes the [inaccurate] head of a college, but decides football is more important than education and hires Chico and Harpo to kidnap players from the opposing team. This is my absolute favorite Marx brothers movie. I can't recall any other movie making me laugh as hard as this one did. I was somewhat disappointed with Harpo's performance (he does much better in Animal Crackers and Duck Soup), and there are several songs included, but Horse Feathers runs one zany scene after another, and I found it really hard to ever grow bored of it. -- If you enjoy good, clean, off-the-wall humor, then watch this epitome of Marxist slapstick and I guarantee you'll be their next biggest fan.

Bunin Plays Chopin and Debussy - movie DVD cover picture
Good Musician

This concert is very good. The only thing about the pianist is that he is a little theatrical. If you are used to see Rubinstein or Horowitz or even Nelson Freire, you will note Mr. Bunin are nor the same posture, neither the same level of technic. But, his performance is very good anyway, above the average. The Chopin's polonaise fantasie is the best, in my opinion. Only for this one, was a good business buying this DVD. The nocturne and the mazurkas are good too. There is another brilliant piece that is a tarantelle by Debussy. I've never seen it, but Mr. Bunin played it with a very singular performance. About the cameras that the other customer wrote, it's true. I read it before buying the concert. Maybe because it was saved in concert and a lot of cameras could be bad for the public. It's not the biggest problem, the camera man could be better it's true, but the concert is very good.
