no one can touch this

ok, i have seen alot of movies, my favorites being Braveheart..snatch...matrix....and half baked. but this movie is by far the best movie ever made. the way it shows the cops finding the bodies and guessing what happend, it is brilliant.if all movies got the same publicity, it would have won every award available. It was great.

Don Bluth's best movie

I saw this movie on HBO Back in the 80's and loved it since - Don Bluth has made many other animated films, but none of them have the class, humor and the fantastic animation of "The Secret of Nimh". This was Bluth's "Citizen Kane" and he hasnt topped it yet.
This was the only time the former Disney animator outdid his former bosses with a excellent story and near-perfect characterization. While his other films were far more successful they always seemed to be expensive advertisments for toys with dumb or predictable plotlines. Those movies were fun for the little kiddies but, but not much fun for animation fans who wanted Bluth to be the savior of this great art form.
My only gripe about the DVD is that it should have been upgraded for widescreen and 5.1 sound, my copy looks exactly like the VHS print. I guess since MGM thought it was just a "kids movie" they didnt need to spend any extra money to remaster it from a better film source and give it a high class presentation.

Cinderella (Wide World of Disney) - movie DVD cover picture
Lovely in its own right

I got this DVD in the bargain rack at the local drugstore for my almost 3 year old daughter. She loved the music and costumes, and I loved it becaues I had grown up with the 1960s version and still remember the words to all of the songs. Whitney Houston does a wonderful job as the Fairy Godmother, and Brandy brings a sweetness to Cinderella. Her acting is just fine, I enjoyed her singing more than Lesley Ann Warren. (I always found Leslie her a little saccharine and cloying.) This version includes a new gem when it adds an old Rogers and Hammerstein song (The Sweetest Sounds) as a duet done by Cinderella and the Prince. Their version of that song was so lovely to me that I wanted to see if it was available on a soundtrack. Unfortunately, it looks like Disney never released it, and that's a shame. I was actually kind of suprised at the harsh tone of some of the other reviews. Brandy is not Julie Andrews, but then again, Julie Andrews was no Jeanette McDonald. I'm sure if some of the previous reviewers were around back in the 1940s, they'd probably have complained the Frank Sinatra was no Enrico Caruso too. I loved the fact that this was a multi-ethnic cast, and I believe they did bring the magic of the original score to a new generation. The stepsisters were goofy and fun, and Bernadette Peters makes a great wicked stepmother. This production is lovely in its own right. I think this version is much grander, and I wish the soundtrack was available. I definitely will buy the soundtrack from the 1957 production to enjoy Julie Andrew's versions of the song, but meanwhile, my little girl has already learned to sing "Impossible...things are happening every day!".

Ben-Hur - movie DVD cover picture

Warner Brothers first released BEN-HUR on DVD before they started lavishing care on the classics their library.

The first DVD used recycled extras, had an over-enhanced image that was full of artifacts, and had cropped important picture information off the edges, It was too bright, and didn't represent the original look of the film.

All is forgiven now by this stunning 4 disc boxed set which handsomely houses the flim in a stunning, glorious new transfer over two discs, with greater sharpness, more realistic and accurate color representation, and a host of stunning extras.

The Heston commentary on the first disc has been abetted by contributions for BEN HUR historian Gene Hatcher, and the 1994 documentary that was on previous releases has been carried over, but is complemeted by a new one hour docu that has such filmmakers as Ridley Scott and George "star wars" Lucas revealing the influence BEN HUR had on their careers.

The original souvenir program sold in theaters is included, as well as an isolated track of Miklos Rosza's great music score.

But what matters most is this timeless film, which has never looked or sounded better.

Band of Brothers - Best thing on Cable in 2001

I was mesmerized during the whole series, and eagerly awaited the next installments over the weeks that it aired. The way the series was filmed, the interviews with the surviving members of EasyCompany and the overall compassion and feeling of patriotism this series inspired was awesome. Definitely a series that should be seen by all!

The Omen - movie DVD cover picture

The Omen, The Exorcist, The Legend of Hell House, The Devil's Nightmare, and The Shining (maybe this is 80s) stand out to me as the best horror films of the 70s. The Omen is especially scary due to its awesome story, great acting, spooky soundtrack, and suspense. I can't say enough good things about it. The movie is mysterious and great. It left me wishing that I was involved in mysterious events with strange priests beating down my door and other oddities conpsiring. But where did that poem come from? "when the jews return to zion" etc? It is NOT in Revelation, I looked!

A look back

Most people who come to see this are those who are fans of Bob Dylan's music. After seeing this, i still like his music, but one finds it difficult to admire the man behind the songs afterward. Aside from the gripping performances (and the amusing "Subterrarean Homesick Blues"), we see Dylan rudely and arrogantly treating almost everyone around him with gross contempt. He's really hard to like after seeing this. However, Joan Baez brightens things up by allowing us to see her lighter side. She makes wild faces into the camera and does an amusing belly-dance parody.
