life affirming film gets unfair label

I am surprised at the number of people who have missed the entire point of both Woolf's MRS.DALLOWAY and Cunningham's THE HOURS. In both works, the issue is how we live our lives:do we squander the good times, assuming there will be more?; do we hold back in some way those we love?;do we choose life over death, whether a literal life or death, or a perceived entrapment?Virginia Woolf clearly expresses her love for Leonard in the frame narration of the film. She can not continue to ask him to cope with her life struggles. Clarissa Vaughan only learns to appreciate life as she understands that each moment is special and not to be wasted. Laura Brown is not a lesbian;she is simply a woman who cannot live a life that she perceives is more death than life--she does not abort her child, she does not kill herself, she leaves. Kate Chopin in her novel THE AWAKENING called her character's life " a role for which fate had not fitted her." While it is true that one could say:then why marry and have children? The 1890 Edna Pontellier and the 1950 Laura Brown both lived in societies which told women their roles and anyone who desired autonomy was deemed a pariah. More's the pity!Don't worry about feeling depressed when watching this film, rather pay attention to the life affirming women who "look life in the face and know it for what it is."

For those really willing to trust God

I just watched this movie and was moved to great tears over it. It brought back the memories of my dad so loving caring for my mom through her cancer and death no matter what others thought. The main thing we all need to know is that God promises never to leave nor forsake. We have never been told we won't have to go through, but that He will always be there along side. He can't take over if we don't let Him. It's a wonderful movie for those in need of faith and for those who only profess to be christians and have faith but don't really know God, and great for those of us who truly love God and cherish reminders of His mercy and grace. It's a must see.

Kickboxing - It's the sport of the future!

First impressions can be deceiving. Take Diane Court (Ione Skye) Class Valedictorian, a wealthy father, going to England on a scholarship - smarter than anyone else in her whole high school. What chance does a lowly, non-scholastic optimist like Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) have with a girl who's as beautiful to boot as she is smart? You'd be surprised. Like the rest of us, there's a world of misunderstandings that lie within her. The girl that's on top of the world is very, very insecure. Add to that a serious scandal her father gets in and you'll know why she favors the silly, but compassionate kickboxer. He's not as silly as you might think and provides the kind of rock solid friend we all wish we had. Lili Taylor adds wonderful comedy relief as Corey - Lloyd's tragically funny best friend. And John's real-life sister, Joan, rounds out the cast. How well do you know the people that you are close to. Can you really say anything to them? John Cusack shows us how it's done.

ONE OF DORIS'S BEST FILMS

My mom was a huge Doris Day fan and when we were kids we always watched her films on TV. This was always my favorite. I remember going to Silver Springs Florida as a kid and wanting to ride in the glass bottom boats just because of this wonderful screwball comedy. Doris is Jennifer Nelson, by day a tour guide at NASA and on the weekends, swimming in a mermaid Costume below the glass bottom boat of her skipper father played by Arthur Godfrey. She's being wooed by NASA Research Scientist Bruce Templeton. But Jenniger is suspected of being a spy setting in motion events that make this a supreme, 1960's screwball comedy complete with Dom Deluise as a goofball spy, Paul Lynde as a security guard who dresses in drag (who knew!) to keep an eye on Jennifer, and George Tobias and Alice pearce as the Fenimores as they virtually repeat their performances as from the TV show "Bewitched" where they starred as the Neighbors the Kravitz's for so many years.

Also included in the cast is Walton's vet Ellen Corby and Laugh-Ins Dick Martin. This is just a pure fun, zany and simple comedy from a great Era of Americana. Day, now in her early 40's waan't quite the young sweetheart of the 1950's but her talent for comedy and her timing had really grown and she had great chemistry with Taylor.

Incredible Film

I believe that this is my favorite film ever. I've seen and experienced (through an extensive teenage-hood of working in video stores)a lot of films. For some reason, this film captures a simplicity I hope to someday find. It's in black and white, which usually is a turn-off for me, but there is something about the visual "slowness" that makes it perfect in this way....this film wouldn't be the same in color. It's about love and desire and how the aches of life altering events alter ones' perspective.

The Most Heart-warming Christmas Video

The Gift of Love is my most favorite Christmas video! I watch it several times a year. It is a touching and heartwarming story of true love. I enjoy the playful and serious side of Marie Osmond and Timothy Bottoms. The two make a great duo - giving O'Henry's story, character and spice! I especially love the part when 'Marie' walks out the door with Mary to try and find Rudy - hoping it's not too late to catch him as he sets sail. To her dismay, she cannot find him - then Rudy comes to her door, finding that she has left with a "hooligan". They meet at the care center (the musicbox is playing) and they vow to love each other through thick and thin -- and plan to marry on Christmas! What a delightful movie!!!

my back never felt so good

While there are a handful of useful stretches and poses demonstrated on this DVD, they are presented in a rushed and random manner, cheating the viewer out of the benefits of a real workout. If all you want is a quick stretch before teeing off, this DVD can help, but so can a fitness article in any golf magazine--and for a lot less money.
If you want a total yoga workout that'll tone your mind and body for golf (or any other physical activity), I recommend LIVINGarts Total Yoga.

Finally something that is not a reality show.

This mini-series is great. Make sure you watch it if you are watching the regular show. If you were a fan of the old show you should like this one. It is a lot more serious though and not for kids. There are great special effects and a good sci-fi story line, since Star Wars is done. There are a lot of unexpected twists and turns.
