killing jamie lee just wrong!...

I feel the overall movie was outstanding, but tell me how or why you would kill off the most valubale character of the series. I felt like his whole mission in life was done after the first ten minutes, and the way they did it was just depressing. But i feel this was the meanest we have ever seen michael myers, just ruthless and scary in this film. Also if they do continue with the series i hope they quite with the rappers that aspect is getting a bit tired first with ll cool j then busta neither of witch die, but buy it its pretty scary and fun

Stephane Grappelli: A Life in the Jazz Century - movie DVD cover picture

I can't say enough about this DVD. Not only do you get to see Grappelli in various photos and film/video clips over a 60 year period playing with the likes of Nigel Kennedy, Martin Taylor, Yehudi Menuhin, Diz Dizley, and Django Reinhardt (supposedly every Django clip known), you also get to see him in a number of settings including a taping of This Is Your Life back in the 70s when his daughter and grandsons joined him on stage.
The documentary begins with the story of his early years and a reinactment of a twelve year old Grappelli playing his student violin in a courtyard in Paris. From there we learn about his earlier career as a silent movie pianist and a pianist/violinist with Gregor and the Gregorians (great accompanying film here). From there we see him meeting up with Django and forming the Hot Club Quintet where they performed for seven years before some of the biggest celebrities of their day and changed jazz forever. Following the story of the breakup of the band prompted by the outbreak of WWII in England, we see the Stephane Grappelli Quintet and are introduced to the surviving octogenarian bassist from that band. Next is the reunion with Django and the story of his untimely death, followed by an account of the lean years for swing music (late 40s and 50s) where Stephane played mostly in restaurants in England and France. The part I truly enjoyed is the story of the rebirth of Grappelli's career after the Cambridge Folk Festival where a whole new generation of jazz and folk music fans discovered his genius and unique musical style. Finally, we see Grappelli's final years where he is still being productive and creative, although his health is obviously declining. (The interviews with Grappelli were recorded a year before his death when he was 88 and quite weak).
Also included on this 2 DVD set are a photo montage, a behind the scenes account of the making of the documentary, interviews with Nigel Kennedy, Diz Dizley, and Martin Taylor, a promo for the movie, 11 bonus chapters, 7 music archive clips, research notes, a bibliography, a discography, internet links, and a map of Montmartre where Grappelli grew up. In addition the viewer is given the option of watching the movie with the creator's commentaries, or with subtitles. (Trust me, you'll need subtitles for most of the interviews with Grappelli.)
My only disappointment is that there were no video clips or references to Grappelli playing with people like Jean-Luc Ponty, David Grisman, and Mark O'Connor. To me that would have made this DVD effort flawless. Still, this is too good to deserve anything less than 5 stars. Great job, guys.

Wonderfully touching

This DVD series uses a refreshing and unique way to tell the story of the people, places and animals of Africa. The personal stories were touching, the landscapes were breathtaking and the close up on the animals was just amazing.
I was very happy to see a series that did not just identify what's wrong with Africa, but took the time to tell us so much of what is right and is worth saving and exploring. Timely indeed!!!
In so many ways this was more than just a documentary. This in-depth and honest look probably saved all the other documentaries or books that are about Africa.
I am glad to see that so many Africans are proud of their culture, many preserve it in so many ways and yet realize that some changes are necessary to keep pace in a global environment.
Thanks to all the wonderful people from the different countries on that beautiful continent that allowed me to peek into their lives. I am eternally grateful. Thanks also to the wonderful crew that did all the work to bring such remarkable stories into my living room. It was well worth the hard work. It was just wonderfully touching!!!

One of the funniest movies ever!

this is definetely one of the funniest movies ive seen.after i heard david zucker made this, i had to rent it because i loved the naked gun movies. In some ways, this has many similarities to South Park bigger... and theres something about mary, but then again, in many ways its completely different.
STUPID WARNING PARAGRAPH-its a gross out sports comedy, and theres alot of beer, vulgar ... humor, some prejudice, and one seen of unspeakably mild violence, so its not what you would call a movie for the whole family.if you find that your 9 year old wants to see it, i'd personally suggest watching it dont get me wrong, i hate censorship, i think a kid shouldbe able to watch what he wants as long as he's not traumatized, but it might be a pretty good idea.
the reason i gave this movie 4 stars instead of 5 is because towards the begining of the end section, it got kinda boring and lacked the kinda full throttle gross out comedy that all south park and theres something about mary fans enjoy.but besides that, i strongly suggest this to south park fans and just mainly adult comedy fans. if you liked this, see orgazmo and cannibal! the musical.

No less than five!

GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES is simply a story of two children who have died. It is their story. Please do *NOT* think "well this is a cartoon it can't be serious" because it is. What is depicted in this anime represents what has happened to countless children throughout history--past and present--due to war.

In perfect expression and in great detail, you see how much the little boy loves his four-year-old sister, and she needs her brother. The love between them expressed throughout is extremely realistic and great detail. How helpless the brother is to care for his baby sister, but he does the best he can and even risks great dangers and his own death to feed his sister. It was so painful to watch it made me cry, and you really do forget it's anime. Next to the movie "Twenty-four Eyes" (another antiwar movie but with real people in it), it is truly the best antiwar film ever created.

This movie will leave an impression in you for the rest of your life, and your perception of "cartoon" will forever change. If you plan to watch this "cartoon" with your kids--I am warning better watch it first. Because it's very painful to watch--But a very moving and touching experience at the same time. When you finish watching it, you will think about it all the time. It's just an incredibly moving experience.

I finished watching this the other night and I plan to watch it again with friends. If you plan to watch this with company you will need a good full box of tissues. :-(....

This is a movie I'll never get tired of...

This is a movie that I first rented because it had an awesome guitar duel at the end in. I wasn't expecting much of a story, but I got one. From the first scene where Robert Johnson records his record to the last with Joe Seneca and Ralph Macchio walk down the old highway, it is a great ride. The plot is excellent, the music is great, and the guitar duel between Eugene (Ralph) and Jack Butler (Steve Vai) is jaw dropping. Of course, Ralph isn't actually playing the parts;someone named Ry Cooper(?) is. It's awesome.

This was a kewl way to look into the way a music video is made; the concept, the chosing of the director, and the costumes. It was really kewl to see the guys goof around and be funny. The making of "As Long as You Love Me" video was my favorite part because you get to see the boys at their best. All 5 of them goofing in their own way. I think Brian has got to be the goofiest out of all of them when he said, "Howard!!! Censor!" lol its great! If anyone had a doubt that the boys are real, this is the video/dvd to watch.

Under Suspicion - movie DVD cover picture
the true crime

One has to suspect that any film starring and produced by Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman is going to be good. That assumption would not lead to disappointment in this case. This is a terrific psychological crime drama with an excellent story, great acting and powerful directing.
Henry Hearst (Gene Hackman) is a prominent and wealthy citizen of San Juan, Puerto Rico, who found the body of a young girl who had been murdered. Police captain Victor Benezet (Morgan Freeman) is a long time friend of Hearst's and asks him to come down to the station answer some questions and tie up some lose ends. What ensues is a blistering interrogation where it is clear that Hearst is the prime suspect.
The script is smart, probing and full of nuance. Subtle hints in both directions make us continually re-evaluate Hearst's guilt or innocence as the interrogation twists and turns. The ending is a surprise and quite abstruse, requiring some reflection to fathom.
Stephen Hopkins' (Lost In Space) direction is fabulous. The camerawork is excellent, using various perspectives and jump cuts to lend power to the dialogue. I would have liked to see more character development of Captain Benezet to understand his obsessive motivation of trying to nail Hearst. Also, it seems a bit incongruous to have this set in Puerto Rico and have so many obviously American characters. Nonetheless, the work by Hopkins is first-rate overall.
The acting is superb. Morgan Freeman gives a brilliant performance, worthy of an Oscar nomination in my opinion. His dogged pursuit of Hearst never lets up as he is slowly eaten alive by his fixation with proving Hearst is the murderer. Hackman's performance is equally outstanding. His is the most complex and mentally tortured character in the film, and he portrays Hearst like a rat on an electric grid. Italian star Monica Belucci is mysterious and lovely as Hearst's suspicious wife in one of her few American films. The only mediocre performance comes from Thomas Jane as the detective. He is unable to match the rhythm and intensity of the rest of the cast. This part probably should have gone to a Hispanic actor in keeping with the setting.
This intense and clever film keeps the audience guessing throughout. I rated it a 9/10. It is an entertaining film for the thinking viewer.

Perfect mixture of gore, action and comedy

A fantastic debute for Peter Jackson. It sold to over 25 countries in just days. Contains a perfect mixture of gore, action and comedy. Even if it's made out of a almost non existing budget it kicks most Hollywood movies big time.
Peter Jackson has realy taken homevideo to a new level with this movie.

Second best of all time!

I loved this film. Not including any Pixar offerings, this has to be my second favourite Disney movie, because, let's face it,nothing can compare to the absolute brilliance of the phenomenal Lilo and Stitch. But this is still great stuff with unexpected results and a good twist at the end of it(I won't brag). With the storyline being that a hunter gets himself turned into a bear,I was expecting something of an Emperor's New Groove rip-off.But it wasn't,it was far better. And with it's great animation and having the film set around the end of the Ice Age,it looked more like an Ice Age/Shrek rip-off(with the frequent showings of Kenai and Koda bickering). But nothing here is ripped off.It may seem like it,but it's not.Brother Bear is a brilliant film that deserves to be an immediate classic and I can't wait for it to be released.
