just a note to user dave911...

I haven't bought this item yet, but I will be getting it tomorrow, and I CAN'T WAIT. This is just a note to dave911, regarding his review. The Korn cover from Evanescence is "Thoughtless," not "My Last Breath."
"My Last Breath" was on their album, Fallen. . .

Outstanding! Just when you thought everything was safe...

The k-219 is one of the odlest russian nuclear submarines. Sent to the the coast of America during the latter part of the cold war, one of her deadly nuclear missles explodes within the sub and causes fatal gas and lethal smoke and flames to slowly kill the sub from within. Each page brings you closer to the realism and fear that is felt by the crew! END

let us only pray....only pray this is good

the year i was born. batman came out. i was first exposeed to it when i was about 5, then batman returns shortly after that. and those are my 2 favorite movies of all time. and the animated series was amazing as well. but batman forever and batman and robin didnt make batman look dark and gritty. they made him look tacky and well...too much of a good guy. this movie has the scarecrow and ras 'a goul as the villians and i have been waiting for the scarecrow for ever. behind the joker, the scarecrow is where it is at. this movie will be great if A. its gritty. B. if christian bale dosnt suck. C. katie holms isnt overused. and D. they make refrences to jack napier and harvey dent and things of that nature. not tell them there future villians. but at least let us batman fans know that these guys were around and doing stuff to get media attention. good or bad. well july 17th....lets go in the cinema with our fingers crossed

not enough stars for this movie

As parents, we've been buying lot of Disney animated movies for our kids (9 and 2 year old). Then one day we saw this cute litle creature on the cover of this Japanese video cover, I decided to buy it and what an investment that was. From that momemnt on we fell in love with every single charecter of the movie, yes, there is no need for a villain in this movie, no bad guys, and the movie still great, Disney should take note of this. Totoro came into our family life such as a fresh breeze and gave us a total new look on kid's movie, more magical than any Disneyesque stuffs we saw in the past. The story was so original, the rural Japan backgound and the school scene reminded me Viet Nam of my youth ( yes , Viet Nam, when there was no fighting nearby). I wept when the kids cried and laughed throghuout the movie, specially my 2 year old. She must watch it every night before she can sleep.

Star Trek - The Original Series, Vol. 12, Episodes 23 & 24: A Taste of Armageddon/ Space Seed - movie DVD cover picture

Volume 12 of the Star Trek Original Series DVD collection has two classics. However this DVD is highlighted by the introduction of the space tyrant Khan Noonien Singh into the Star Trek world. Khan became one of Trek's greatest villians and returned in the 1982 Star Trek film THE WRATH OF KHAN. Because of his appearance on this DVD it tends to over shadow the other episode.
By the other episode I mean A TASTE OF ARMAGEDDON. This episode is a classic in it's own right. The story finds Kirk and the crew dealing with Ambassador Red Fox(who seems to be a real jerk) who demands to beam down to the planet Eminiar VII despite the planet warnigs to stay away. Upon their arrival at the planet it is revealed that the planet has been at war for 500 years with a neighboring planet named Vendikar. Although the planet says it has been at war the crew are puzzled for their are no real signs of destruction the planet is prosperous and peaceful looking. That is until the council members reveal how they fight the war. They use computers no destruction or devestation casualities are recorded and sent to an antimatter chamber and vaporized. In other words the war is pointless and to make matter worse the crew has been recorded as casualities and are demanded to enter a discintgration chamber at once. When Kirk refuses they are taken prisoner. This episode plot is quite fascinating and this is actually one of the Trek series better tales.
The second episode here is the one that sells this DVD. THE SPACE SEED is the notorious episode that introduces Khan to the Trek lore. Kirk and the crew discover an old 20th century ship in the vast depths of space and investigate. Aboard the ship they find a group of humans in hypersleep they revive one of them (of course it's Khan) and beam him aboard the Enterprise. McCoy tests prove that the man is superhuman and Spock believes that Khan is one of the many superhuman from the late 1990's who conquered the world. Khan appears to be somewhat arrogant and evil as he takes advantage of Marla McGivers one of the crew members and plans to take over the Enterprise and revive his crew. After a little research it is proven that Khan is actually Khan Noonien Singh a tyrant from the late 1990's who ruled one quarter of the world from 1992 to 1996 when he was eventually defeated Khan escaped with several superhumans and have been in hyper sleep for 200 years. Now the tyrant is bent on taing of the Enterprise and conquering the galaxy. This is another one of Trek best episodes of season 1. It is a classic that introduces one of Trek most notrious villians. Definetly a must see!
Bottom line Volume 12 should not be passed up. Both episode are great and the added extra of having Khan's debut is definelty a good reason to get this DVD! Highly recommended!

Essential Action Fantasy Viewing

Highlander is a classic. I just popped this in the dvd player today and it still looks magnificent after 20 years. More importantly, the sound quality is great - the sound designers on this movie did an excellent job, and putting this movie on DVD adds power to the viewing experience. Not to mention Queen's unique killer rock soundtrack which was tailored for the film (a rarity in any movie these days)

In spite of the TV series, animation and sequels - Highlander the movie really stands alone. Russell Mulcahy did such a fantastic job on the visual storytelling - that Highlander still ranks high in my books as an action film and should be watched by fans and students of the genre. Forget the overblown effects of movies like Matrix - this has real swordplay, great scenarios, personality and humour. All this makes the movie inspiring to watch.

Highlander also captures the peak of Christopher Lambert and bad guy Clancy Brown, who defines badness as the immortal villain Kurgen. Sean Connery cuts a dashing figure as well. All are perfectly cast.

How and why Russell's epic vision faltered in the sequel to this great film is anyone's guess. But the original Highlander will remain a classic for years to come.

40 shots of vodka and pina colada; the ultimate musical!

My favourite musical movie besides and above "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Little Shop of Horrors", and "Chicago"; directed by Baz Luhrmann, this is a highly-intoxicating world of visually eye-popping colours, innovative and very fun meshing of evocative pop songs in the 20th century, beautiful set pieces like moving paintings in the museum and a great timeless swooning feeling of being alive, or rightly so being in love. Plus, it's also the only movie that is exhilaratingly edited by someone who had to be high on weed and revolutionized three things: revived the dead musical genre to be fully accepted in the next generation, set up a red-carpeted pathway for my beloved Nicole Kidman to rise to her long-deserved stardom and to fully substantiated my undying crush on Ewan McGregor.

Love, love, love this movie. With the reasons above, the 7 billion people on the face of the planet are divided into two groups: the love-strucked and the bitter ones who think they'd wasted their time. Luckily, I'm one of the love-strucked ones and seeing this movie in a big-screen theater again (when will that time come?) or a real-live broadway version, like a counterpart of CHICAGO (when will THAT time come?) will just simply be a miracle.

The most beneficial factor of the film is the aforementioned classic feeling of the romance. This is "Romeo and Juliet" directed by David Lynch featuring Madonna and Elton John pop songs to name a few, can-can dancers, prostitutes, a red elephant, and oh, how can I forget an Argentinian falling through the roof who is quickly followed by a dwarf dressed as a nun?!?

The plot is tired and creaky as an old wood and the theme is cheesy and sappy as your next Hallmark card. But what Luhrmann does and successfully well so is capturing a feeling so primitive and so emotional in a glass bubble and breaking it all over an endless pastiche of arabesque-like, confetti party thrown by Cher and Dr. Frank-N-Furter, conveying a resonating feeling of being in a crazy world full of enlivenment. It's seedy and dangerous and frankly, I'm sure we all agree on this one, can give one a full-on headache. But it's enormously energetic and something we've never seen nor experienced before. And this is just the beginning. As Kidman's Satine appears on a trapeze and whose beauty grazes the eyes of McGregor's poet Christian (Satan+Christianity=doomsday) and ours too, love is in the air (I'm surprise they didn't used this classic Manilow song). The bizarre, Lynchian world, eventually calms down and is replaced by a sticky, mildew of unabashed and operatic romanticism pollution in the wind. The swooning feeling of one's being giving up the whole thing for the whole aspect of being with someone that will make you happy and go La-la-la has never been so fully captured. Christian's rendition of Elton John's "Your Song" is just ridiculously so heartfelt that I fell in love with him (and the two of them) as they go about their journey towards love, however doomed. Ditto for "Come What May", which should have won the Best Song in that category at the Oscars that year. But like all classic love stories, tragedy looms around the corner and never ceases to rain on everyone's parade. I was so invested in the couple's happiness that the moment the curtain falls and the songs and dances stops for real life to go ahead, waterfalls starts to kick in.

The end made me cry and I am not ashamed to say that anymore. It wasn't crying in the category of losing Bambi's mother, it was crying to the upper level of "What did they do to deserve this?". It was cruel and evil for the director, I thought, to rob the happiness out of the characters and for us, audiences, to witness such unbearable plights. It's like Buffy thrusting the sword through Angel's chest all over again. Waah!!! But it has to exist, I suppose, because like every fairy tale, there will always be the encompassing presence of the reality.

Suffice to say, "Moulin Rouge!" is an excellent movie. A very unique, innovative and bizarre musical film that dances and sings with the you until the tears roll down and you're grabbing hold for the nearby tissues. Nicole Kidman looks absolutely fabulous (I'm still awaiting for the time to meet her) and just perfect as the prostitute with the heart of gold. Ewan McGregor is charmingly lovable and very hot and in my version, he sings to me, not to Nicole. The hybrid of love songs and Bollywood-inspired dance and intricate designs are decorative borders around the genuinely unfeigned and heartbreaking love story that is simply awe-inspiring to both ears and eyes. All worth the time to tap dance with your boyfriends and girlfriends!
