i was surprised at the price too.

i got a ton of jazz and prog dvds for xmas and this is by far the best of the lot. i had low expectations because of 2 bass players. that just seemed stupid to me, but trust me youll love this. the way the 2 basses are used is really logical and at no point are both playing on top of each other(except one short part that is not weird or lame sounding at all). i dont think ive ever heard oscar lay down the law like he does on this video. when i saw its just $10 i really couldnt believe it. this thing is gold.

Probably the MOST UNDERATED Animated Film of the Century!

Of all the great animation films to ever grace the movie screen, the Iron Giant is possibly one of THE best kept secret ever. Although the animation is not as technically stunning as some Disney films, the story is simply moving, bravely written, and imaginative... simply a top-notch film! Young or old, its a definite must-see!

sweet and touching, with superb acting

After seeing the trailer for this film over and over throughout the summer, it quickly became one of the most highly anticipated movies ever for me. What I expected was an story of an immature teenager and a wise-beyond-her-years little girl who came together in a very sweet and moving way. While "Uptown Girls" certainly does fit that description to an extent, it is much, much more than an oversweetened, sappy tale of friendship and understanding. Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning aren't just playing unrealistic, sappy characters that nobody could ever relate to; they have feelings, and those feelings are presented in a very touching manner.
The basic story follows the life of Molly Gunn, a rich, spoiled teenager who suddenly loses everything and basically comes to be yet another nanny to an equally troubled 8-year-old girl. Although highly against becoming emotionally involved with Molly, it is the rare attention she is receiving that leads Ray to form an unsteady relationship with Molly. What follows is evidence showing why Ray is the way she is and what complex and often disturbing things she is experiencing in her very young life. The Coney Island scene toward the end when Ray tries to pull away from Molly and then throws her arms around her is a scene I will always remember because it's one of the first times I've actually cried in the theater (although I am a sensitive person, I never cry at movies). It truly is very touching, accompanied by wonderful acting.
Yes, this movie starts off very slow and you may find yourself wondering what exactly is the deal with Molly Gunn at the beginning of the film (I've seen it twice and the first 15 minutes or so still seem very thrown together to me), but the movie really does pick itself up and is held together primarily by the terrific acting from the two leading girls, as well as Heather Locklear as Ray's distant mother.
Brittany Murphy is a very charming and enjoyable young actress, but it is 9-year-old Dakota Fanning who completely steals this movie away. Although she has other talented people surrounding her, she is the star here, and she is the reason to see this film. I wasn't particularly impressed by her at first in "I Am Sam," but her performance in "Uptown Girls" reeled me in completely. Fanning is a rare, rare talent in today's world of child actors, and with her ease and charm on the screen it is plain as day to see that she will be a huge Hollywood name in the years to come. She's adorable and yes, extremely talented.
This movie may not be perfect in every sense (for reasons described above), but it is one of my favorites and is definitely worth seeing for its sweet message and the real-life struggles that prevent it from becoming a fake-ish fairy tale.

Touching Triumph over Tribulation

A small English child grows up in a German (Afrikaner) occupied WWII South Africa. Financial difficulties put him into a Afrikaner boarding school, rather than an English one, where he becomes the target of the hatred of all of the Afrikaner students against the English. His mother dies. After a student attempts to kill him, he goes to live with his grandfather. He meets a German musician who teaches him about life. In a prison camp, a black South African teaches him to box, and about human equality. This is a story about the horrors of war and apartheid, and how it is possible for one person to make a difference.

Weiß just gets better and better...

I bought the first DVD after reading about the series online, and wasn't entirely impressed. The second DVD had more well-animated episodes and a definite plot, probably enough to get a person hooked. This, the third DVD, is not only exciting and pivotal but much easier on the eyes. We get to see (and hear) a lot more of the Schwarz, learn more about Persia and the tangled web of the Takatori family, and finally figure out exactly what happened in Aya's past. If you liked the first two Wei? DVDs, you're sure to love this one. If you saw the first few episodes and ditched the series, now is the time to give it a second chance! If you've never heard of Wei? Kreuz [Knight Hunters]... where have you been and what are you waiting for?!If that's not convincing enough, allow me to mention my little brother. Despite the fact that it meant missing the All-Star Game, he watched this DVD with me all the way through without once telling me how stupid anime is. I think that's about as strong an argument as you can get.Sure, the outtakes are at an all-time low and the English voices aren't worth not having to read subtitles, but that's just the dub, and the rest of the DVD is top-quality entertainment.

Best Tupac Documentary.

No question, this is the best Tupac documentary out there. There are alot out, such as Thug Immortal, Thug Angel, 2Pac 4Ever, etc. but this definitely beats all those. Produced by his mother and other people who were close to him, this documentary informs you about his life before stardom, during it, and everything in between; and the best part is, Tupac, himself, is narrating tha whole thing!! There's also a alot of bonus footage of Tupac, and several interviews with people who were close to him like, Jada Pinkett, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Treach of Naughty By Nature, etc. Although, Suge Knight does not give an interview for tha film, there is some footage of him speaking about Pac. This is a must have film for any fan of Tupac... you have to have it, your collection is simply incomplete without it. I strongly reccommend this DVD to everyone, even if you're not really a fan, it's still really interesting. Get it!!

the second best movie ever.

this movie is adapted from the best book ever of the same name by anthony the book, there is a glossary in the back 4 pages long front and back.the glossary defines the nadsat language used throughout the book.what is nadsat?a made up language the author created himself that the teens speak in the the movie they make it understandable.example:i had a pain in me ol gulliver or head you know?gulliver means head.theres alex and his 3 droogs who go out at night and get into felonious mischief errrrrrr i mean a bit of the old ultra-violence.i mean they gang rape a chick and force her husband to watch, play hogs of the road where they drive up the wrong side of the road to make people crash and all sorts of stuff like that.then they stop by the korova milk bar..............youll love this place...................and get some milk what?synthamesc or drencrom or velloceet..........drugs!it is not,i repeat not,for kids.theres nudity in all sorts, rape, violence with beethoven playing, naked jesus never stops.anyhow, the main character eventualy is thrown in jail.they want to try a new technique on him that makes him become physicaly wracked with pains at the very thought of being bad.this includes fighting, illicit sex, raising his hand in anger, defending himself, you name it.the director is stanley kubrik.this is his masterpiece!thats saying a lot since hes also cooked up such classics as spartacus,lolita,2001;a space odyssey, the shining, full metal jacket and eyes wide looks low budget but everything in the 70s does to me.a lot of people are turned away by the rape scene and shows of nudity going further than full frontal.then again some people are heterosexual and like seeing naked chicks.there are a couple places where id say there is lewd things going on,but they are brief.the main character alex was portrayed extremely well.his buddies-droogs are petie, georgie and dim-dim being really dim.hes not all that well played out but is light years ahead of his time since now its commonplace to have a unbelivably stupid character in every show and is pretty well consistent with the book.the book is far better and way worse.and since the book is longer,i will let the cat out of the bag.the movie and in u.s. print, end with alex laughing about getting released.the book in england and many other countries has a lost chapter where he also grows up and reforms for real.the part where the shrinks are making hi m incapable of bad involves them showing him very graphic violence and forcing him too watch.this mixed with thier meds makes for a very intense show he viddies is even aconcentration camp scene with beethoven playing in the background.kubrik is to film what mozart was to music or the beatles to rock or hendrix to guitar.this is his best work!
