Spidey Lives!

This was possibly the most highly-anticipated comic book movie adaptation ever, next to the X-Men, and it may have taken years to bring this about, but it is definitely worth the wait. initially I wasn't sure who they were going to cast in the title role, but when I heard the name Tobey Maguire, I initially scratched my head in confusion, considering the fact that I would've never thought that a guy like him would take part in something like this, given his Hollywood track record. But after this, I don't think I would picture anyone else as Peter Parker. He really brings the character to life, embodying many of the deep qualities we love and admire from the comics and the cartoon, but in a majorly human way. Kirsten Dunst was excellent as Mary Jane, I initially thought she would play Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man's FIRST love interest, but then I saw that Kirsten had dyed her hair, so it pretty much indicated that MJ was in this film. this movie was excellent on so many levels, it was intelligent, it was funny, it was touching, it was dramatic, it was action-packed, everything you would love in a movie. On top of that, it's Spider-Man for crying out loud! Everyone loves that wall crawler. I'm definitely excited about the sequels!

Wonderful storytelling

Just found out it's 96 eps long which makes it about as long as Kenshin. This one's a little bit Fushigi Yugi & a little bit Kenshin. It's apparently based on a series of books(I usually prefer anime based on literature/manga)Youko Nakajima(Aya Hisakawa/Midge Mays), a girl who tries hard to do well/be liked/fit in(ok, little bit Kare Kano) is approached by a beautiful tall blond man, Keiki(Takehito Koyasu/Kurt Strauss), who tells her to accept his declaration of loyalty/servitude & as soon as she does, all you-know-what breaks loose. Demons attack her in her classroom, but of course Keiki protects her. They escape to the roof which involves her "friend" Yuka Sugimoto(Aya Ishizu/Kirsty Page) & Yuka's guy Ikuya Asano(Yuji Ueda/Joshua Seth) who Youko also has been eyeing. Sugimoto decides she's the one all this is about & insists on going wherever Keiki's taking Youko, so all 3 end up in another land--the magical 12 Kingdoms where Sugimoto does her best to outdo Yui from Fushigi Yugi in the former friend turning on out heroine, & so far, Sugimoto's winning--she's horrid. In this new land, Sugimoto & Asano are obvious strangers, yet strangely Youko's looks have changed & she understands the local language. This show has action, but isn't overdone(too much action in one ep), the emphasis is on the storytelling, which is great. The land & its rules seem quite real.

great sci-fi

back in 1973, hi tech sci fi , was beginning to show up on the screen on a regular basis, although a few weak moments are in the film, this sci0-fi gem is a must for collectors.i would imagine, a up dated version would be great and a re make would generate a new fan base, perhaps, tom berringeras the cowboy-bad guy...a.k.a. yul brynners role...

Powerful

I can't honestly say that I loved this film...I don't even know if I liked it...but I do know that it deserves the 5 star rating for making me cry harder than I have ever cried before, and lingering in my mind days afterward...Bjork is exceptional, she plays Selma like no one else can, and I'm sure NO ONE could have done a better job than her, she is magnificent and truly makes you feel for her character...the film does overstay its welcome by a good half hour, but it is so emotional and so powerful that I didn't really care,I felt myself sympathizing for Selma and hoping everything would work out for her...this is not an easy film to watch and it definitely IS NOT for all tastes, I wouldnt be surprised if so many people hate this movie...its slow and it is recorded by a hand held camera, not to mention the fact that its a musical...but the characters are so richly drawn, the musical numbers so well choreographed, and the performances an absolute powerhouse, that this film really is a masterpiece, never have I loved a character so much as I loved Selma...what she goes through for her son is an inspiration, but one cannot help but turn away from all that happens to her...this is a painful film, but an absolute rewarding one...

IT'S BEST TO START AT THE BEGINING

THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED. I LOVE HOW THE WRITERS MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS RIGHT OFF THE BAT. THEY REALLY PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO EACH PERSONALITY. ALTHOUGH IT ISNT MY FAVORITE SEASON (I'D HAVE TO GO WITH SEASON 7 OR 8) I STILL LOVE ALL THE EPISODES!

Buy it and Watch it!

Always is a smart movie, with great lines all the way through. John Goodman shines in his role as Pete's best friend. Holly Hunter and Richard Dreyfuss make a great pair - the dance scene is a classic, with Holly in that great white dress, the song Pete requests from the band, and the dirty firefighters wanting to dance with "the dress." The only problem I have with the movie is the last sequence, when Dorinda is flying and loses oil pressure, then crashes into the water. The whole thing is too surreal to reconcile with reality. The movie as a whole, however, is among my favorites of all time.

A worthy successor

It may not have quite the magic of the original, but Fantasia 2000 does not disappoint. The selection of classical music is outstanding, as was the case 50 years ago the integration of music, storyline and animation is the stuff of genius, and there is a glowing, positive atmosphere that is wonderful for kids. In particular, the creation of the New York story for Rhapsody in Blue is astonishing in the perfect and intricate way in which the animation, mood, and music are in harmony with each other. The inclusion of the original Sorcerers Apprentice sequence was a deft touch, and all the other pieces are outstanding as well, with my second favorite being the Steadfast Tin Soldier to the music of Shostakovich. Great entertainment for kids and a joy for adults. I only wish it had gone on longer.

Superb movie!

I never did enjoy any of Brad Pitt's movies except the one time of Legends of the Fall, but this movie was really worth watching.
Robert Redford's excellent performance as Nathan Muir a CIA agent only a day away from his retirement has to come to questioning about his protege Tom Bishop, who has been captured by the Chinese government for espionage. During the questioning Nathan can't get any answers out of his superiors and fears that Tom will be executed in 24 hours if Nathan doesn't do something to save him. Wonderful acting, terrific storyline and great action!Only one problem with the movie: The timeline doesn't make sense in any way. When Muir is telling the story of Bishop and how the two met it starts from the early 70's. So if Muir is telling a story from a time that dated from 2001 it's 30 years ago, Bishop was a young man in the early 70's when he was recruited. So in 2001 it would make him somewhere in his late 40's or early 50's and Brad Pitt did NOT look 50 in any way!!! Strange.
