Child's Play - movie DVD cover picture
have to keep telling myself "it's just a movie"

Charles Lee Ray "Chucky" is a serial killer who gets shot and killed in a toy store. Thinking his life wasn't over, before he dies he transfers his soul into a Good Guy doll.
Andy is a 6 year old boy who wants a Good Guy doll for his birthday. His mom (Catherine Hicks) buys him one off of a homeless man. She brings the doll home and Andy is thrilled, but what Andy and his mom doesn't know is that the homeless man sold her the doll with the evil spirit of Charles Lee Ray.
My favourite scene is when Andy's mom finds out that Chucky is alive; the doll is working without batteries. She threatens Chucky to throw him into the fire unless he talks. He has a tantrum just to get out of her grasp. Chucky leaves the apartment...
This movie was scary but at the same time funny. Chucky keeps getting shot and he is still moving...what the heck??? I give Child's Play 5 stars because the story was very unique.

Ok so its not digitally remastered...Robotech still rules!!!

When these boxed sets came out, I knew I had to have them. I grew up watching Robotech-- a cartoon that would never be made today because of all the issues it deals with. Lots of reviewers complained that its not digitally remastered. Ok so its not digitally remastered...so what? I'm not going to wait for the remastered version to come out, because its been delayed forever (eta 2003 maybe?)! This version is in English and looks the same as it did when I saw it as a kid-- which is just fine. Also reviewers are complaing about the beginning title being played before every episode-- no big deal since you can just skip those in your scene selector. All in all, this is a must for Robotech fans!

3 miles ROCKS!

I started out using the walk Jog DVD and quickly moved on to this 3 mile video. It's awesome. You get a great upper as well as lower body workout with this one. Its not too long(49)minutes and super easy to follow. My 7 & 5 year old children sometimes do it with me.
When I decided to change my life and get into shape, I weighed an astounding 292 pounds but after about 3 1/2 months I have lost 33 pounds and still losing.
Her 4 mile express video is great too but it doesn't focus much on the upper body and I like working every part of me. I never knew that doing leg exercises are the best way to slim your waist line but after using this video my waist has shrunk and I have even retired some of my clothes cause they were falling off of me. Don't get me wrong you still have to watch whatt you eat and exercise on a regular basis. I do this video atleast 5 days per week and I still eat whatever I want but only in moderation.
Lesile is a chatter box and you will get annoyed with her so just mute the video and put on some rocking music and you'll be good to go. Its well worth your money TRUST ME!

2001: A Space Odyssey - movie DVD cover picture
This film paved the way for Star Wars!

This is the great crossover film that made it O.K. to like sci-fi. Prior to this, sci-fi was limited to old Buck Rodgers serials, with the minimal to nonexistent budgets that made the special effects look like a middle school science project. This film broke all of the rules.
You know the story: a black monolith appears to a bunch of missing links, and when the planet align, they become intelligent and stat using tools. Fast forward to a hypothetical 1999 where they discover a similar monolith in the crater Tyco (that is the bright one on the moons southern hemisphere, with a lot of splash lines from the impact), which sends a radio signal out to Jupiter.
By 2001, the government hasn't released any information about the monolith or alien contact, notwithstanding the Freedom of Information Act. They have, however, built a ship designed to make the journey to Jupiter to investigate. We know the story: Hal goes crazy, and kills the crew, except Dave Bowman, with his Mona Lisa smile, who takes a pod into the monolith at Jupiter. He goes thought the star gate, and experiences a cosmic LDS trip, and arrives in a neo-Rocco room where he ages, and eventually is brought to the next stage of human evolution via our good friend the monolith.
This film tapes into the late 1960's excitement of the space program and the ever-enticing idea of human progress and potential. Couple this energy with the spectacular cinematography and supra-standard special effects, and by all accounts this film is a winner.
NOTE: There are two DVDs, one with the painting of the space station, which is the one I am reviewing, and another with Kier Duella's lovely mug, which I am not reviewing. This DVD is the re-mastered and restored DVD, with the film and soundtrack being upgraded from the other DVD. The down side is that they have taken the interview of Art Clark fielding question from NASA team members before the movies released. I am torked off that this was taken off of this DVD, since I am a fan of such things. I recommend getting the other DVD if you like those things.
By the way, if you don't like or don't understand this film, please do not take your frustration out on my reviewer rank or me.

A fantasy classic

Watching Ian McKellen in action as Gandalf in the LOTR makes me nostalgic for another great Sorcerer...Sir Ralph Richardson in Dragonslayer. The effects may be 80's but they still play well today. Watching Sir Ralph in action against Vermithrax Pejorative still excites. Ride the LOTR, Harry Potter wave -- this movie is worth your [money]. For any Fantasy movie fans, it is a must own.

True Depictions of "Summer Camp"

I absolutely cherish this film. I own it on laserdisc in widescreen. Since it came out on DVD over a year ago, I must have passed it up over a dozen times in the stores because on the back of the package it says it is presented in butchered fullscreen. Well, it didn't say "butchered", but film lovers know that a pan-and-scan fullscreen presentation of a film shot in widescreen is butchered. So I read the recent review bemoaning the fact that the DVD is actually widescreen, and I thought I would buy it and take the chance. Sure enough, widescreen! Excellent! The daytime scenes in the film have an orange tint to them, but I believe that is true of the laserdisc as well, and may be the way they filmed it to give it the "warm" feeling of summer. Even the cover art has an orange tint. The sound could have been in 5.1, but as presented it is 2.0, which is actually quite fine given the predominantly dialogue nature of the film. If you ever went to summer camp as a kid, and now in your mid-life years wish you could capture some of it back, this charming drama/light comedy with an adult theme will have you hooked for life!

Great Historical Depiction

I used this film for a case study on the working class in films and found it to be one of the most authentic films I have ever seen on this topic. The direction, acting and cinamatography are brilliant! Chris Cooper and Bob Gunton give excellent performances. The characters in the film, are lively and vivid. There is just so much in this film, I can't say it all.
if you are into history, sociology of labor and class, film studies/humanities- this film is CRUCIAL.

LOVES IT

"Just a tip for other males out there: if you make your girlfriend watch this with you, she will not be impressed and be prepared to be made to watch The Notebook in return. :)"

IGNORE THIS RUBBISH.

Women who have amazing taste and aren't morons will love this movie for it's subversive humor, gore, and all-around fun feel. It's a delightful romp through the cliches of typical zombie-film horror and takes parodying to a hilarious level. You'll love it, and it's a great movie for couples to watch. Skip The Notebook, and stock up on this, along with other great zombie flicks!
