green day does it again! (in the same day!)

This to me ranks highly as some of the greatest Video compilations of all time. Of course the Beastie Boys Anthology holds the tops spot but to me this come close. Green Day has always had a flare making creating, funny, and many times odd music videos, which has also in a way paved a way for other bands to make funny/creating, and good music videos. But this one has it all. Every single released from their last 4 studio albums is here including all the new ones. This is not just some small thing like the Blink 182: The Urethra Chronicles, which is good if I may add but that only had 4 songs on it. This has over 10 videos on it... possibly 15, I forget really, since I just keep in on loop over and over again. IF you are a fan of Green Day, Get this, If you are not forget it, it will probably bore you to death or annoy the hell out of you. I for one am a big fan, and am happy about this purchase.

House of Cards Trilogy (House of Cards / To Play the King / The Final Cut) - movie DVD cover picture

This is the most awesome political intrigue drama ever. You can read the description in the editor's note, so I won't go into the storyline. I first saw it on the BBC when it was aired in early nineties, but it is mostly unheard of in the US. But when I showed some of my friends, they emmidately baught the whole set, and also as presents for friends, everyone just LOVED it. Though utterly serious, its also hilarious, we'd rewind the movie and then go over again. Especially the functioning of the parliament is a little unknown here, so knowing some minor details will help. Though the sex part was a little obsecure, but one has to admit that "the most sexual part of the body is the brain". Also everyone will be in love with "You can surely think so, but I couldn't possibly comment". A must buy.

Oh dear Lord how do I start...

This movie is by far my favorite. I can't understand how someone couldn't like it...but as director Baz says "The first 15 minutes is a transition into it's world. Some people make the transition. Some people don't."One of the most amazing things about this movie is the people I have met through it. It is like all the people who are obsessed with it are exactly alike. Like there is something at the core of this movie that we all want in our lives, and it speaks to us in many ways. We share a special bond because of it.For those who can make the transition into it the movie brings you into it's world. It is a world you wish you could stay in for it is so bright and wonderfull and full of song. Oh now don't you all forget the wonderfull songs! Baz is coming out with a second soundtrack in February so all us fans get the chance to rejoice! There were so many songs left off the original soundtrack it was ridiculouse...okay this is getting short SEE THIS MOVIE!! (and also see it on a big screen)

Been waiting for years

I saw this movie on TV back when it came out in the early 80s and loved it. It has been available only on tape up recently. I am so happy to be able to purchase this on DVD.

This is a terrific adapation, perfectly casted, with great performances. To me, this is the definitive Scarlet Pimpernel.

This version of the Scarlet Pimpernel is very well acted with Anthony Andrews brilliant portrayal of the foppish Sir Percival Blakeney. Jane Seymore is of course very very beautiful as Marguerite, and Ian McKellan is a perfectly dastardly Chauvelin. When I first saw this, I had no idea who Ian McKellan was, but his acting really caught my attention. Of course everyone knows who he is now.

Very funny!

This is probably my favorite Kevin Smith movie. I say this because it speaks a lot about faith, friendship, and the consequences of our actions. Not to say there isn't a rubber poop monster in the film, because there is. I think this film more than any of Smith's others has layers meant to be sifted through. The dialouge is meant to entertain and educate us, at least that is what it did for me.My favorite scene is with Damon and Affleck in the garage when Affleck's character has finally snapped and goes off on a rant about how mankind has forsaken God. If you get the special edition, the deleted scenes are awesome including a powerful speech by Jason Lee's character about the nature of Hell and evil that is just another example of Smith's ability to write something truly meaningful.

Awesome !!!!

If you like YES music, you MUST purchase this DVD. The performance is magnificent. You'll rediscover how beautiful YES music was.. and still is. Anderson's voice is exceptional and flawless, Howe's playing is flawless and Wakeman's playing is magnificent. Howe's solo is out of this world. Jeff Berlin's bass playing is OK. He's a good bass player but on this recording, he looks like he's out of place. We miss Chris Squire a lot on this recording. He's the heart of YES. He's not there, and it shows. Had he been there would have qualified this DVD as a 6 stars rating!! This is the best DVD release of YES music to this date. I'm lucky I purchased this DVD right when it was released. Right now it is not available. Sorry guy's !!!!

Interesting production

This is the famous production of the ring cycle that was first produced in the 1970's and booed of stage. The reason was that instead of it being set in around 400AD as intended by Wager it is played in 19th Century gear with Industrial age sets. The production was performed again in 1980 and filmed without an audience. This is the production that we see on this DVD.
The first thing which must be said is that the sound quality is excellent. The film production is also good and does not have the problem that some opera DVD's have of being transferred from VHS to DVD.
The general critical response to this version of the ring cycle has been posative with most of the barbs going to the singing of the role of Siegfried, something of no relevance to this DVD.
The fist DVD of this production I saw was that of Gotterdammerung which was a bit of a shock. Brunnhilde was played by someone far to old (although it was the first woman Siegried saw, he probably wasn't that choosy) and the chorus dressed in French working men's costumes was a shock.
However by this DVD somehow you forget it and if the opening scene is a large hydro dam instead of the Rhine and the Rhinemadens are dressed as prostitutes you don't seem to notice as much. the Gotterdammerung is a reasonably static opera. Probably as the first hour drags into the fourth you have a lot of time to look at people dressed as bank clerks and you have problems suspending disbelief. With this production, its all happeing with Gods and Giants striding the stage and people descending into the underworld the action keeps up. For that reason one forgets that Wotan is wearing a smoking jacket and that the trick about the Rhinemaidens was that they were maidens. Anyway this retailed where I come from cheaply and it was great value. The quality and timber of the orchestral playing is superb. The signing good and the, I suppose you call it acting okay.

Genius performance

All I can say is get it. The Goldberg Variations are one my favourite pieces by Bach. But hearing it played the way Glenn Gould does is amazing. I like this version better then the first version (1955)which is at times a little too fast for my taste, yet still more then excellent. Seeing Glenn Gould play this piece makes it even more powerful and appreciative. It looks at times unplayable to me. I can also recommend, especially for the people who like Bach the other in the series, XIV and XV.
