great videos

Have all three videos and love each one especially the third. The live performance of the song Love Me is great. It shows the true early Elvis at his best.

Meet Maggie and Frankie; Simply Told Story About Boxing as Life

Though 'Million Dollar Baby' features a detemined boxer Maggie, who starts her career at the age of 31, the film is not about the sports itself; boxing is only a metaphor for life, and you can easily find that out after seeing what happens to three main characters

The film is about these people -- hardened ex-boxing trainer Frankie, retired boxer Eddie (who lost sight of one of his eyes), and Maggie for whom boxing is all she's got. They are played by Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank, and Morgan Freeman respectively, and they all deserve the awards and praises they have already got, for what they have done as real professional actors. In short, their acting is simply great.

Don't follow the story. Some people, quite understandably, thought that this is a female version of 'Rocky.' Don't get me wrong here, for to me 'Rocky' is also one of the greatest films ever made. To those who expect 'Rocky'-type story, some part of 'Million Dollar Baby' might be depressing, especially when the film ends in an unexpected way. But remember, Rocky in fact didn't win the bout (Apollo did), but you know that is not the point. The point is, like star Stallone himself, it was a do-or-die project, and he did it.

And boxing is the do-or-die project for Maggie, and you will know that at the end of the film. You will get to know the believable characters (including the ones who hang around the old boxing gym), and the film slowly reveals the life of them on screen.

The slow-moving pace of the film may not appeal to you. Actually, some might find part of the film a bit dull. I did, but I also know this is a kind of film in which you have to keep the same pace with the realistic characters because in reality things just don't happen so fast. Then, after leaving the theater, the images of Maggie and Frankie will remain with you.

A detailed history of The Carpenters career.

This very interesting DVD on The Carpenters goes into great detail, telling us their history-the struggles before success, including previous groups that they were in like Spectrum and the struggle for success with complete rejection by record companies. It details their first garage recording with a small record company which went under. The first TV performance when they were unknown, the first single success, how Richard found songs to record, the constant touring with its ups and downs, the Grammy awards, the problems with Karen's anorexia nervosa and her eventual death. It has interviews with Richard Carpenter,Herb Alpert(and how he discovered them),Burt Bacharach,Petula Clark,Les Paul,Paul Williams and members of Richards band.It has numerous songs(although not the whole versions, except for a few but the excerpts of songs are long)The DVD has loads of extras-the White House concert showing them live doing whole songs,Ava Maria(outstanding vocal performance),a lovely Christmas song, ads, record lists. All in all,an outstanding DVD.I hope that they bring out another one of them live in concert one day or maybe put their TV specials on DVD.

Very imaginative

This is one of the few movies that I rented, then bought immediatly. You just have to watch it several times. The visuals are stunning for the time, and the overall picture of the movie conveys is amazing. As for the comments that have been made about the directors cut, I prefer it to the original. Just taking out the voice over opens up the movie to a more 'spacey' feel. The last thing I want to have to do when I see a movie is have half the plot shoved right in my face, I would rather figure things out myself. The dvd could have been much much better. The picture quality is decent, but very lacking. No special features. I'm hoping for a re-release sometime in the near future. But I'm not complaining, its still far better than the vhs version.

The Death of the Incredible Hulk - movie DVD cover picture
What a fitting ending for our beloved Green friend.

This was a great one...really sad but it was still great. I did always wonder though why MacGee wasn't in it. Its like he just dropped off the face of the Earth. Or maybe he finally gave up on catching the Hulk..but that's so unlike his character. Anywho I thought this was a good way to end it. Although as I later learned a few years after seeing it that they had plans for another movie entitled: "The Rebirth of the Hulk." But Bixby died before they could start fliming so they scrapped it. Which didn't make since to me...they could have still made it..but just had it to where another person was cursed with the curse of the Hulk. I think that would have worked really well. I had also heard rumors that they were going to make a She Hulk tv movie..but of course they never did. But if your a fan of the 70's show then be sure to watch this'll be glad you did.

Complete 'real'ness.

This has to be one of Uma's top performances, ever. Her part has to be one of the most real characters ever written about. You saw her not as a role, but as a real person. You may have saw yourself in her, or you may have you seen thousands of other girls in her. In reality, all she wants is love. Just to feel love, and to be loved. She is willing to go to any depths possible to find it. Desperation, so to speak.

When watching 'Hysterical Blindess' you almost forget you're engaged in a film, it seems like you're watching the world around you. Because this is it...this isn't some fiction story that you know is impossible to ever happen..this is what goes on in the real world that surrounds us.

Definitely check out this film, I do believe you'll enjoy it. Juliette Lewis & Gena Rowlands also give all-star performances.

Great Series!

Whereas The X-Files went on for three or four seasons too long, Millennium was as least two seasons too short. I'd set aside an hour every Friday night to watch it, and it quickly became my favourite hour of television. It was a wonderful example of dichotomies: unbelievable violence coupled with peaceful main characters, science coupled with mysticism, heaven vs. hell, life vs. death. Frank Black was one of the most sympathetic characters in television history. I actually miss him, and especially his daughter Jordan (Brittany Tiplady), who was one of the cutest kids ever to be in a t.v. show.
Granted, Millennium did get a bit loopy in its third season, and I was angered, but not surprised, that it was cancelled so suddenly. But towards the end of the season, and especially in its final episode, didn't the series come full circle and end exactly where we wanted it to? With Emma being brought into the Millennium group, and Frank the lonely protagonist on his quest for truth and the possibility of justice? I was suprised pleasantly by this turn of events at the series' end, and was left wanting so much more.
To see this series on DVD would be wonderful, and I'm surprised that it has not yet been released. But I am at least glad that it may perhaps be in the works. I'll be first in line when it is released. ...

A testimony to Brooks' genius

I first saw this movie over thrity years ago. Although I was pretty young, I was drawn in by all the hysteria and screaming, all the slapstick and goofiness between Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. Later in life, I realized how truly smart and truly side-splitting this movie is. And only now do I realize how risk-taking it must have been to make this movie. Can you imagine how a 1966 audience--just 20 years after WWII--reacted when they saw this movie and its "Springtime for Hitler" scene, and to have a Nazi with whom you can actually sympathize (played by the underrated Kenneth Marrs)? But Mel pulled it off back then, and the play is still holding up today.
I know the movie is approaching its 40th birthday, and that comedies just don't age as well as dramas or musicals. But DEFINITELY give this one a chance. It'll be worth the money just to watch Zero and Gene and Kenneth. And as an added bonus, for you New Yorkers out there, get ready for shots of midtown and the Village that are like a moving museum pieces.
