giannini at his best!

A previous reviewer hit all the major points. This, besides "Life is Beautiful", is the only film I know of that attempts to set a comedy in a concentration camp. Wertmuller regular Giannini plays Pasqualino Frafuso, a small-time Neopolitan hood, who, thanks to a series of misfortunes and his own stupid mistakes, winds up in a concentration camp. There he tries to seduce the grotesque German commandant who holds his life in her hands. In a series of scenes that are both funny and at the same time unforgettably harrowing (a word often used in connection with this film) Wertmuller shows us what a man with no ideals or (political) convictions will stoop to in order to survive.
"Seven Beauties" is often called a masterpiece and I think this is rightfully so. I have seen few films that could inspire such pathos in the viewer. The acting, the direction, and the music are all superb. That Wertmuller's Best Director nomination for this did not result in an Oscar is a shame.

Touch of Evil (Restored to Orson Welles' Vision) - movie DVD cover picture
Will the DVD be released in this Millenium or what?

Touch of Evil is whithout a doubt one of the greatest films of all-times. It is a film that is even more enjoyable the 100th viewing. It has been the inspiration for many filmmakers around the world. The influence of this film on the great French New Wave directors casts a giant shadow. It has great performances by all especially Orson Welles as the corrupt, decaying detective, who also wrote, directed, and edited the film. The other superb elements are the groundbreaking cinematography by Russell Metty, the incredible musical score by Henry Mancini, and the bizarre story and characters that are created in this film which are as unique as they are strange. All that aside, WHEN THE HELL IS THE NEWLY RECONSTRUCTED VERSION GOING TO BE RELEASED ON DVD? I HOPE IT WILL BE RELEASED IN THIS MILLENIUM? HOPEFULLY I WON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I AM REINCARNATED TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE DVD VERSION.

I love these videos!

This DVD is more than I have excpected! I have been wating a long time to see these episodes in their original un-dubbed versons for so long! The first of the four episodes is "Sakura and the Mysterious Broach." It is like the dubbed verson, but you can tell the diffrence from them. This one had a LOT cut from it, and I for one am glad to finaly see it for it's true self. Kero-chan is so funny in this one^_^! Clow Card sealed: The Sword. The seconed is "Sakura and the Sports day of Flowers." I wanted to see this episode for a long time. It tells of Sakura's mother, and some of her non-tuched past. It has funny, sad, and heart warming scenes of the love for a family. Sonomi is so funny in this one^_^! Clow Card sealed: The Flower. The 3d episode is "Sakura,Tomoyo(Madison in America), and a Mansion." This has to deal a lot also with the love of family. It shows more of Nadesiko's(Sakura's mother, Natasa in America) and Sonomi's(Tomoyo's mother, don't know American name) past relashunship, and how Nadesiko fell in love with Fugitaka(Sakura's father, Adien in America). Kero-chan is sooooo funny in this one, along with Sonomi^_^! Clow Card sealed: The Shield The fourth, and final one, is "Sakura's Never Ending Day." This has a few things added,(cut things from the Dub) but is revativly the same as the dub, in which we find Sakura in a race aginst time itself, with Kero-chan, and Shoyron(Li in America) being draged along. Once again, Kero-chan is so kawaii!!! Clow Card sealed: The Time. It also has the main theam to both the ending and begining: Groovy" and "Catch You, Catch Me"!!!It also has original ending and opining credets. Sakura is way cute!!She reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake!!!(If you can remember her....-_-') It also has the ending segment "Leave it to Kero-chan" He is so cute in this!!!(And it reminds me to do my chores ^_^') It brought me much injoyment, and I highly recomend it. I give it six stars and three thumbs up ^_~!

Van Sant's best movie....

I was fortunate to see this film in its limited original release. Over the years much of it stayed with me, and it has stood up to repeated viewings. Hard to say what had the most impact: To see Matt Dillon turn in one of the best acting performances of that year? To witness one of the first performances of an interesting, talented unknown named Heather Graham? Or maybe the inspired performance of William Burroughs in a key role near the end? All the performances in this movie ring true. Truly one of the major overlooked films of the last 20 years.

A much improved film with a truck-load of cool extras

For many years, I have defended TMP, despite it's quirks. In this new version, they've gone back and finished quite a few scenes, ("finished," mind you, not "destroyed" . . . nothing as blasphemous as Greedo shooting first . . .) All of the additions blend quite well with the existing footage, and there are lote of great extras and documentaries. My favorite feature is Michael Okuda's running text commentary, which makes the occasional joke, and presents many interesting technical facts that will command the attention of film buffs and sci-fi geek alike. I bought this purely for the documentary disc, but found myself watching the movie twice on the day I got it. Ever sit through this film twice in one day? You will now!

Edited or Not, Here He Comes...

Okay, let's clear the air first. Yes, I was disappointed to learn that KidsWB was editing "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker." And yes, when I read the list of cut scenes from the net, I was looking forward to seeing them intact. However, and this is a big HOWEVER, the cuts actually did not take much of anything away from this wonderful piece of work. It's a shame that the purists are up in arms over this, and I can't say I blame them. But in the end, the only thing that matters is your own opinion. IMHO, Return of the Joker is excellent. Great performances all around, one of the best writing jobs ever in a Batman project, overall fabulous entertainment. The flashback scene alone is worth the whole DVD, but don't just flip to that or else you'll miss a whole hour's worth of great storytelling. The only complaint I would have about the DVD is in the commentary. Everything all four of the guys say is poignant and interesting, but the seating positions must have been all wrong. While one of them is too far away from the microphone, another is too close. So, you'll be messing with the volume controls a bit. But even that doesn't take away much from this fantastic adventure. In short, it rules. Schumacher wishes he could make a Batman film this good...

Saint Seiya Vol 8:Golden Opportunitie - movie DVD cover picture
Golden Opportunities, Indeed

The Gold Saints, the Aces in Sanctuary's deck, finally begin to reveal themselves to the world. As it turns out, the Sagittarius Gold Cloth that our Bronze Boys so desperately fought in the Galaxy tournament from way back isn't the only one of its kind, and as the astrological zodiac name of the Cloth might suggest -- there are actually 12 Gold Cloths!

"Twelve Sets of Gold Cloth!": After failing to take out the Bronze Saints so many times with his Silver Saints, Pope Ares finally decides to use his trump cards -- the Gold Saints. Seeing as one Gold Saint is undoubtedly stronger than several of the strongest Silver Saints combined, Milo of The Golden Scorpio is summoned for the job -- until Leo Aiolia, the same kind yet mysterious Aiolia from episodes past, and the same Aiolia whose brother Aiolos was the former wearer of the sacred Sagittarius Gold Cloth, offers his services instead.

"The Decision of The Mask - Love or Death!": Seiya, still recovering from damages sustained from his previous fights, is knocked around senselessly by Aiolia, but a sudden unlikely ally in Shaina saves him -- until it becomes obvious that even she is no match for the powerful lightning fangs of Golden Leo. Heavily injured, Shaina finally reveals the secret reason why she has been after Seiya's head all this time.

"Attack Gold Saint!": It all seems hopeless for Seiya against Aiolia, until he receives an ultimate aid from the one thing he had never expected to see again -- the Golden Cloth of Sagittarius! However, Aiolia doesn't take kindly to seeing Seiya wear his dead brother's old armor, and will take drastic measures to correct this -- until yet another person arrives.

"Shiryu Challenges Deathmask!": Featuring the debut of Gold Saint Cancer Deathmask. Deathmask is sent on a mission from Sanctuary to the 5 Ancient Peaks to retrieve the Golden Cloth of Libra from, surprise surprise, Shiryu's old master. Of course, Shiryu refuses to allow this to happen, and will stop Deathmask at any cost -- even if he's in no condition to fight someone that's miles above his level.

"Away We Go!": With the Bronze Saints and Saori tired of Sanctuary sending powerful assassins to kill them, they decide to bring the fight over to the Pope. Seiya, Hyoga, and Saori are waiting by the private jet and ready to go, but Shun is missing. Where is he, and what's keeping him?

The Duelists-Solid!

A solid film! The story is very Conrad. A tight story line with very interesting psychological study of character motivations. The acting is sound as the story requires characters with depth and physcial ability for action. Ridley Scott's cinematography enhances the development of the characters and their world beautifuly. From begining to end a visual and aesthetic masterpiece of film which culminates in a classicly tragic tale about two men's obsession with dueling and its impact on their lives. Highly recommended quality film...
