get swept off your feet

Great direction, visuals, and songs. "Moulin Rouge" is an offbeat, sometimes dark, but charming musical. The beginning of the movie is somewhat of a visual orgy, but as the movie progresses, audiences are introduced to the growing romance between Satine and Christian. As they fall deeper in love, their relationship becomes more forbidden accordingly. Jim Broadbent does a great job as Zidler; his facial expressions are comical and grotesque in an almost paradoxical way. Emotions are captured onscreen flawlessly. I definitely recommend this movie for anyone who would be delighted to see Ewan McGregor burst into song on a giant elephant.

Only in the 80s.

No child of the 80s can call themselves complete with owning this DVD. Suprisingly enough the DVD is of top notch quality, although a little lacking in the special feature department. Let me just clarify that the only special feature the DVD contains is just a commentary. Otherwise the DVD is perfect, a nice keep case, no snap cases here folks. Furthermore the movie is displayed in widescreen and you will here it in beautiful Dolby Digital 5.1. Packed full of humor and fun moments this is a must have for any DVD collector.

Not very Dr. Seuss...COOL!!!

Guys, get over the idea that this movie is not a very close remake of Dr. Seuss' story. In order to make this story work cinematically, the Grinch got to have a backstory, and the Whos had to be a little less "innocent". I like what Ron Horward and Jim Carrey did here. Yes, I love the critics to commercialism about Christmas, I love the idea BOTH the Grinch and the Whos are wrong, and in their interaction they come to understand what Christmas is really about. Jim Carrey is absolutely fantastic in this role, he'll make you laugh, he'll make you cry, there should be an Oscar category for comedic roles like this. Believe me, doing what he does is not easy, it's even more difficult than many dramatic roles. I was expecting the boring, silly, Dr. Seuss' story (sorry, but it really is), and they gave a really novel and updated version that had in me a better "feel good" effect than the original story. Don't compare, look at the movie as somenthing different, and you'll enjoy it.

I thought "Oh, no, not another lousy Stephen King movie"

The most humble character ever portrayed in film. This film really leaves you feeling crippled by the materialism of life.Something about Walken's performance makes you want to start believing in miracles again not just for your own sake but for every lost soul you will ever meet. The best films are the ones that leave you uneasy in life and this one certainly does just that.

DTS experience

Ok, the movie is pretty good, I must admit it's you're run of the mill natural disaster movie though! But forgetting about the plot or acting quality for a minute, I want to recommend this movie for anyone with a DTS system. The special effects look and sound amazing. Car crashes, collapsing bridges, erupting volcanoes (duh!), etc. will rattle your living room and make you duck for cover. A definate "must have" in your DTS collection. Hope this helps!

Broadway Baby

I already owned Into The Woods and was in awe of Ms. Peters' performance in it, so I purchased this. I was astounded at her performing and vocal ability, and much more astounded when I found out her age (exact words: "but, she's so HOT!"). Except for "We're In The Money", all the songs and/or performances are wonderful (some of the songs were only made interesting by her rendition). Also, if anyone who heard she will be playing Madame Rose in Gypsy is doubting her ability to play the role, they ought to see her rendition of "Some People" on this video.

Roswell - The Complete Second Season - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best series ever finds it's way to DVD.

Season One was classic. It's the one we all love. It had the beginnings and the mystery. Still I think Season two is just as good. I mean Season one is my favorite (and probably the best) but season two has just as many memorable moments and happenings as the first. It takes the romance and sci-fi action of the first season to a completely new level, which is awesome. Some of the best episodes are in the second season, and a lot of important things in the story happen, like Alex's death, Tess's betrayal, the transaltion of the book that Max, Micheal, Isabel and Tess have been trying to read forever, Valenti lossing his badge and so many more.

Season two's story is just so engaging. I think Tess adds so much to the cast, even though you probably hate her (as does everyone else). The story in season one was just mainly eluding cops and federal agents, but season two has so much more. Max and the others aren't just trying to keep their identies hidden from the public, they also have to deal with other aliens, like the skins, who are trying to destroy them. They are also trying to figure out a way to get back home. Max and Liz's relationship is severely strained, as Liz realizes Max is meant to be with Tess, and then distances herself from him. There's even an episode where a Max from the future comes and tells Liz she must help Max fall in love with Tess, or the world will end. That's probably what eventually leads Max to impregnate Tess (accidentally mind you). Max then sees flashes that his child can not survive in earth's atmosphere (in season three you find out those flashes were fake, and Tess was just mind warping him so that he would have to go back to Antar), so he knows that they must all return to their home planet. Right before they leave though, Alex is killed. Liz won't believe it was a suicide, and eventually uncovers that Tess did it. Max is disgusted with her and Tess ends up being the only one to return to their planet. Max holds Liz in his arms as the final episode ends, and we have to wait until the third and final season of the show to find out all the true answers.

Season two is still a great season. You can't have one without the other, and I recommend of course buying season one first so that all of it makes sense. Much like the first season, some of the music in some places has been changed due to copyright laws, so that's the one downer. Other than that everything is perfect, and you will undoubtably watch the episodes again and again now that you have them on DVD, and no longer need all those VHS tapes you taped the show on. Have fun and enjoy this til season three gets here. Keep fighting for the Roswell movie.

Box Sets prove DS9 is THE definitive Trek

DS9 has always been my favourite trek. The fact that the Federation and the Bajorans had to constantly work together to keep the station running was what made the show interesting. Constant conflict, no neat and tidy endings (like TNG), and continuing story arcs that encompassed fun stuff but also politics and religion. The extras are great (love the crew dossiers). I was so psyched when the final season came out. The resolution of the Dominion War, Section 31....all amazing.***note to diehards*** - I got THIS final set at Future Shop (in canada) and it came with an extra DVD packaged outside of the boxed set. Does anyone know if the other 6 season have a similar extra DVD, and if so, can you buy them separately?

A Piece of this, and a piece of that.

What can I say about this awesome Spanish horror flick, that hasn't already been said? A true masterpiece of the genre. The picture is pretty grainy, and the soundtrack isn't the greatest, it has drop-outs at times, but it doesn't take away the sheer brilliance, and laughter of the movie. Yes,laughter. And for those who have seen it, know what I'm saying. You have your corny acting, and some minor scenes when you will ask yourself, where the heck did this come from. Such as the Karate Kid coming out of nowhere to attack the lovely Linda Day George, who beats his butt by literally doing nothing but stand there. Seems he had some "bad chop suey" which didn't agree with him, and he drops like an egg in front of Linda.(remember, this is a B-movie) The blood and gore is over-the-top. And the killings are pretty violent, and depicted pretty good. The chainsaw is the main culprit, but who's at the end of it, doing all these dirty deeds? The chainsaw weilding madman started out as a child who was scolded by his mother, when he was caught putting together a puzzle of a nude woman. She scolded him, then he scolded her. She used her hand, he used an axe. A little extreme, but I assure you, she NEVER hits him again after that. When the police arrive, (who called them anyway?) the little boy is in the closet, hiding from the madman who did this to his mom. Poor kid, having to see something like that. Then after that, I guess nothing happens in between, cause we jump to 40 years later. Now we are at a prestigous University where the student body is getting chopped up by some madman wanting to collect "human" body parts to put together another puzzle. This right here, I think was a great idea by the director Juan Piquer Simon.(The Simon was added on for American audiences) his real name is just Juan Piquer. A kid putting together a puzzle, gets scolded, kills his mother for it, then some years later puts togeher a human puzzle, made of various body parts from his victims. What a great idea for a horror movie, huh? There is a really in-depth interview on a web-site that was e-mailed to me by a friend, with Juan Piquer, about this movie. It even makes the movie all that more enjoyable to watch again after reading it. It is called, "A Piece of Piquer".Anyway, like I said before, we have Linda Day George, in this movie, along with her then husband, the late great Christopher "Gates of Hell" George, and a few unknowns. Oh yeah, and also the guy that plays "Bluto", in Popeye. The late Joe D'amato (Beyond the Darkness, one of many great movies he's directed) did the screenplay.I heard that a company that is ran by Sly Stallones son, Sage, that his "Grindhouse Releasing" label, who also did a beautiful job at re-releasing Umberto Lenzi's "Cannbal Ferox", and Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond", is supposed to clean this movie up, picture quality, sound, and all that good stuff, and re-release it on his label. I pray this comes true. Otherwise if you have a region-free dvd player, that can convert PAL to NTSC, you can always pick-up the German release of this film, with English or German audio options. I'm just waiting till the end of this year, and if it does not come out by then, I'll just go with the German release. It's in widescreen and everything, yipee!! If you're like me, you try to get the best copy you can, and it just has to be in WIDESCREEN, along with the correct aspect ratio. Don't want to lose any of that blood and gore now, do we?Anyway, if this is your only option get this movie. If you have the VHS of this, get the DVD, you'll never wear it out. I just recently saw, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" on "Criterion". Are you kidding me? If anything deserves to have the Criterion label on it, it's this movie.
