don't mention Aunt Edna!!!

NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION still stands up as one of the funniest road movies ever made. With a canny script and dead-on performances from the superb ensemble cast, it serves as a cautionary tale for families everywhere how NOT to have the family vacation from hell.
Clark and Ellen Griswold (Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo) and their two children (Dana Barron and Anthony Michael Hall) embark on a huge, life-consuming odyssey, otherwise known as the cross-country trip to Walley World in California.
Along the way, they have to contend with a trip to their hillbilly cousins Eddie and Catherine (Randy Quaid and Miriam Flynn) and end up dragging crochety old Aunt Edna (Imogene Coca) along for the ride through Phoenix. Adding insult to injury is the shapely blonde in the red Ferrari (Christie Brinkley) who is following Clark "all the way"...
Hilarious all the way. It is indeed painful to watch the hapless Clark fumble his way (Basil Fawlty-style) through the series of disasters that befall him on his vacation.
The DVD transfer is wonderful after years of...fuzzed-out video transfers.

You've read the other reviews to know what's included in this DVD. I'm here to simply say that Hayley is amazing. If you don't like this DVD e-mail me and I'll buy it from you....that's how sure I am that you'll like it. She is at least as good, if not better than Barbera or Celine.

This Movie Is The Most Disturbing Thing I've Ever Seen

First off let me just say that this isn't any ordinary horror movie. Along with the Halloween, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Hellraiser, this film doesn't fail to scare or disturb you just like the films I just named. I first saw this when I was 12 (I'm 14 now). I went to the mall and couldn't wait to buy it so I bought it. I was ready to get scared. When I got home I popped it into my VCR and I wasn't disappointed. I really got into the film. The film has a documentary style to it. It looks like it's really happening. The opening scene sent chills down my spine(I won't spoil the scene for people who haven't seen it). There are so many elements in this film that people would say "Oh my god, this could happen in my front yard" or something like that. It was loosely based on the killings of Ed Gein. Gunnar Hannsen was awesome as Leatherface. And get this he was only 18 when he got the role. I haven't seen the DVD yet, but I'm sure to get a copy of it. I hear its really great. I recommend this for die-hard horror fans. This movie isn't for people who like bad sequels to good horror movies that have comedy mixed in with it or close-ups (you'll see). Like the TCM's sequels (THEY WERE AWFUL). So get out that chainsaw and have a freaky fun ride. See ya. 3/15/03

Heartwrenching masterpiece.

The first time I saw this movie I was swept away by the beauty of the cinematography. I could hardly take in the whole of the movie because of the scenery. It didn't bother me to watch this movie over and over. I actually wasn't aware this was considered a "long" movie time-wise. I felt the movie flowed so well and so beautifully that I wasn't aware of the time. The story and the acting draw you in and won't let go. It happened to be on a movie channel again recently and, even though I have the VHS and DVD version, I couldn't help but stay up until the wee hours of the morning to watch it again..and still I wept tears at the end. This is one of the few movies that absolutely deserves all the accolades and none of the derision.

So touching

Such a beatiful, sad story. I won't give anything away, but it left me in tears. That kind of sacrifice.... I wish it happened in real life, instead of only in movies. It's a beautiful film.

Moving and Honest.

This is a coming of age story that struck me as being true-to-the-heart and very gripping, often being poignant. The latter is for myself the best proof that I liked the movie a lot (so many movies are made with the intention of being poignant, with as result hopeless affairs). The two leads are talented and made everything look realistic. So much that I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they look even the age they are supposed to play, even though Rebecka Liljeberg and Erica Carlson are older in real-life than in Show Me Love (also known as F**king Amal). The ** are there so as to prevent Amazon from butchering this review.
Do not miss this one. A review mentioned: "outgrossing Titanic in Sweden and The Netherlands." Regarding the above: Titanic is an excellent example of superficial, pretentious crack, and those two countries have taste (no pun intended). And, Sweden/Denmark, make more movies like this! Heartbreakingly simple but the epitome of Truth. for more information...

Gilmore Girls always full of surprises!!

I have been watching Gilmore Girls for about 2 years and I am hooked. It's not your typical teenage blah blah blah. It does not focus it's stories on who slept with who or why the blonde slapped the brunette. Lorali and Rory's coversations go off on funny tangents and I find myself laughing out loud all the time. Their story line is unique and always interesting. This is a show that I feel comfortable letting my 13 year old sister watch and I can't say that about many tv shows now.

Marquis de Sade - movie DVD cover picture
A Devilicious Delight!

A truly beautiful film about the Divine Marquis - the presentation begins with erotic nude paintings which transform into beautiful women of like-kind in the same poses, all ready for ravishment - the supple flesh ready for the picking - erect nipples, rosy blushing flesh, creamy sensuous skin - such delectable carnality...

The Marquis follows his passionate bliss; worlds of salacious rapport proceeds from his limitless daemonic imagination, words as flaming embers igniting the Hellfires of Lust in all who read his works - even those who claim to despise him deny their own true humanimal natures on the surface, but cannot deny their eager impulses in the shadows of their minds.

The plot revolves around "Justine", a comely young lady in search of her younger sister, rumored to have come in the clutches of De Sade, who did thus fashion her into his perfect creation - a Lady "corrupted" {enlightened} with insatiable pulchritude; educated in the delights of the flesh within a den of sublime iniquity, to learn first-hand the in-depth being of a character she sought to pretentiously portray in her role of actress turned sex-slave.?

De Sade is wed, and flaunts his libidinous activities before his wife and step-mother - the question remains however, why did he not take them both as well? In a particularly moving scene, even his wife, whom he seems to ignore for the most part, is not devoid of his debaucheries, when upon complaining of his joyful licentiousness, is taken, by the Marquis' command, by the man-servants on the dinner table as his echoes resound throughout the house, even unto the ears of her mother. Also of note, he decides to take the chambre-maid over the grand piano into realms of ecstasy.

De Sade had devised a deliciously wicked method of sado-masochistic indulgence, and necessitated a fresh damsel upon which to apply it, to her ultimate pleasure, and so he found Justine's sister.

Justine visits De Sade daily in his jail cell {thusly accused of his various excesses, unfortunately, also including murder}, where he awaits execution by the guillotine; but in a gallant scene, is helped by her to escape, wherein the executioner is ironically himself executed, The French Revolution is inspired, and they steal away in an awaiting cortege' to his ch?teau to meet with Justine's sister, as he promised had he lived, and finds quite a surprise upon arrival. Hooded phantoms hide dark secrets.

I enjoyed this version just a bit better than Quills, mainly because of the aristocratic aesthetics, the artful environments, and the etiquette of the characters.

In the end, the emotion which De Sade claimed was an illusion was indeed mutually experienced by he and Justine, yet he could not abandon his masterpiece awaiting him in chains, and remained "the master of his own disappointment".

Excellent Series!

My son LOVES this DVD! He would watch it 24/7 if I let him. He has learned all the signs and is still excited to watch it. I really don't know what it is about the DVD, but every kid I've let watch it is just captured by it. It's amazing! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Why listen to the critics? This movie's great!

So, I just saw this recently ("That's your own darn fault", I can almost hear you say) and it is indeed everything the more reputable reviewers have called it, plus a side of fries. From the very first scene on, this Garfield is the polar opposite of his comic book equivalent, talking incessantly, recklessly jumping around, waking Jon so he can make it to work in time (and though he is never seen working, Jon must indubitably have a very cushy job, judging from his at least one million dollar home). Hmmm, I always thought Garfield conserved energy as much as possible.
If this film resembles anything, it's one of those bad Disney talking animal movies from the '60s. Plot modus operandi: Animal with extraordinary abilities is abducted and exploited by evil, greedy big city person, other animals and/or animal owners must come to the rescue. Yawn. I wouldn't even mind the uber-generic plot contrivances if they were spruced up with some decent gags, but you could count this film's laughs on one finger. What Garfield really needed was a punch-up by a bunch of Simpsons writers.
I wouldn't mind buying Chris Beck's (Buffy) fun but rather standard score if I came across it in a bargain bin somewhere, but barring that unlikely scenario I'm likely not going to go out of my way to track down a promo. Even his work here remains more of a "Meh" than a "Hmmm... neat."
