different sort of humor

It's too bad so many feel this first season wasn't funny compared to what is being put out now. This first season's episodes were a different sort of humor that didn't rely entirely on overblown/outlandish plots and cheap laughs. Much of the humor in these episodes is subtler and perhaps not sledgehammer enough for some people's tastes. Watching one of Groening's pre-Simpson's bunnies gnawing on Homer's arm while he rolls around on the grass is pretty funny if you can see the irony in it. The entire first season is full of inferred chuckles that some people might not get. That's too bad!

The artwork is much more amateurish but that is pretty funny too and I have no doubt the crew must have laughed themselves silly when putting these episodes together. Personally I would much rather have this collection than anything labeled as The Simpsons in the last few years.

Pirate Stereotypes RULE!

If you're looking for a fun piece of pirate-movie-schlock, then look no further!... This movie has a lot of positive stuff going for it--the sets and special fx are AMAZING--but the acting almost always leaves just a little bit to be desired. It's like watching a comic book--there are always the stock pirate characters of the Evil Uncle out to steal Treasure, the Feisty Female pirate heroine, the Charming Scoundrel, Mystical Tattooed Guy, etc. I did end up buying it, simply because this is one of those movies that's just fun to lose yourself in watching. Grab your cutlass and join in the fun!!

Mulan (Disney Gold Classic Collection) - movie DVD cover picture

As a teacher and a mother, I believe Mulan is the best Disney video and story for young girls. Mulan is not a princess, but an ordinary girl that does extrordinary things. My daughter was cheering and wanted to learn to ride a horse, instead of wanting to marry a prince. There is no kissing in this film and only a hint of romance. Definitely kid friendly.

Oh, very good.

This was a funny movie to watch, because it was lent and I was off chocolate. It was excruciating from that point of view. Fortunately it was brilliant from every other point of view.
It blends emotion, humour, drama, issues, the church and loads of other points. It has a really superb plot. I also like the way it takes on the beaurocracy of the church (don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian, I just the that parts of the church are very two-faced).
It is one of the few films I've seen which has an obvious good-guy and bad-guy thing going on, and actually works. The acting is superb, with Juliette Binoche supported by an excellent backing cast.
Go see it, its excellent

A real life Indiana Jones Story....

This is, without a doubt, one of the best historical documentaries ever made. In Search of the Trojan War combines archaeological adventure, historical investigation and a charming presentation by historian Michael Wood to bring to life one of the best known Greek legends: the Trojan War. Sifting through vast sources of information, from the ancient to the contemporary, visiting fabled cities, and walking on the footsteps of the people of times past Michael Wood discards speculation to present an objective view on the history of the city of Troy.Made in 1987 by PBS and the BBC, this six-part documentary is still the most complete and vivid depiction of Troy ever presented in television. Each one of the original episodes deals with a particular topic regarding Troy and the Trojan War as explained below: *The Age of Heroes: presents the many legends and myths of the ancient Greeks, where they came from, the ways they influenced everyday life, and how life ordinarily went on in the Greek world during this historical period. *The Legend Under Siege: presents the pioneering men, both believers and skeptics, who followed Greek myths into their historical past, discovering legendary cities, awe-inspiring treasures and important cultural facts, and, in the process, creating the science of archaeology. *The Singer of Tales: presents as detailed a biography on Homer as the information about him permits - including a pleasant and entertaining look at the very old and almost unchanged art of the bard poets - and a detailed analysis of his epic: The Iliad.*The Women of Troy: traces the evidence that places Trojan women on Greek mainland as the probable result of their abduction by victorious Greeks after the War, giving strong historical support to Homer's tale.*The Empire of Hittites: presents the commercial and political connections between the Trojans and the Hittites as recorded in Hittite clay tablets and other historical records, validating further Homer's account of the Trojan War.*The Fall of Troy: presents the conclusions drawn from the historical facts about the reality of the Trojan War, its legend and its heroes. Not only does this documentary include every bit of information you could ever hope to find about the city of Troy itself and its many legends, it also includes information on Greek writing systems and alphabets, other important Greek myths and legends, and the birth of archaeology. If you are a history buff looking for an archaeological armchair adventure, the Indiana Jones type at heart or simply searching for an entertaining way to brush-up on your Trojan history, buy this documentary. I assure you that you will love it. I would recommend reading the documentary's companion book "In Search of the Trojan War" by Michael Wood for an excellent bibliography to fuel further personal research. The book also includes an updated chapter that presents discoveries made on this topic since 1984 and not included in the documentary, which will not only complement what you'll explore in it, but will also make the conclusions presented on its last episode seem more likely to be correct. Enjoy!

High marks for the movie. Low marks for Keanu

This is such a fun spirited movie. It is one to throw in one you need your mood brightened. It is funny, clever, and beautiful to watch. All the cast, save one, comport themselves most admirably. After casting Keanu (Whoa! I'm doing Shakespeare) in this one, you would have thought he would avoid doing something similar in the future. Alas, we had Matthew Lillard in Love's Labour's Lost.
