Audition - movie DVD cover picture

Wow...really draws you in with its cutesy romantic story during the first hour. Then the axe falls. This movie played at a film festival here in Miami, the kind usually attended by an older, pretentious Merchant-Ivory crowd. I heard that people were streaming for the exits during the final act. Ha, Ha! Do yourself a favor, and stick this one out. It's worth it.

A good illustration of The AntiChrist's life

I am a Big Fan of the Omen trilogy because the story is Original. We know many story of The Bible, but watch this movie... This movie have an excellent Vision of the AntiChrist's moderm life. The actors, Gregory Peck and Lee Remick are very good. Another reason that movie works, is the Music. Whitout the fabulous Score's of Jerry Goldsmith, the film doesn't have this atmosphere. A very good movie, like the other (Omen 2 & 3). A classic for the fan. I really recommend this...

Excellent Hong Kong style flick

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make an outstanding "opposites attract" team. Matching Chan's action with Tucker's humor is priceless. A must see for action movie lovers.

Mobile Suit Gundam The 08th MS Team (Vol. 1) - movie DVD cover picture
A tradition of excellent Gundam sagas continues...

This OAV series is set during the final days of the One Year War. Ensign Shiro Amada is a young space-born Federal officer given his first command, the 08th Mobile Suit Team of the Kojima Battalion, and quickly gets embroiled in fierce battles with Zeon forces in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. While there, they encounter formidable resistance from enemy Zakus, negotiate with wily guerrilla warriors, and discover a secret base that harbors a weapon that could bring down the Earth forces for good. It doesn't help that the first Zeon soldier Shiro meets face-to-face is the lovely, intelligent Ayna Saharin. Can he reconcile his feelings for her and earn the trust of the soldiers of the 08th MS Team? Or will a rusting hulk of metal be his epitaph in this sweltering jungle battleground?
It's kinda hard to review this because there is nothing to bash or make fun of. After viewing the entire Gundam: 08th MS Team series I can easily say it is one of the greatest anime titles I have ever seen. This is saying a lot because have a history of rating anime very harshly. It stays true to the excellence attributed to the name Gundam and even surpasses it. It effectively mimics the idea of having "good people" on both sides of war we saw in 0080, but emphasizes it more since romance is involved. However, all you action junkies out there don't get the wrong idea. This has action scenes that put GW to shame. You see Gundam is really about intelligent fighting then being flashy a la GW. 08th MS Team revisits this theory and puts it to good use. I swear, every episode gets better and better. By the time you reach the climatic Shuddering Mountain episodes you will be blown away. A classic. Do not miss this. I can't think of any conceivable reason why I would rate it any lower than 5 stars (And the catchy end credits theme doesn't hurt either =).

I loved this movie!

This movie just sort of snuck up on me. I was having a bad day, and it was on TV, so I thought I'd give it a chance. And it turned out to be *just* the thing to pick me up from my doldrums.
A very, VERY sweet movie that is interesting, gripping, has some mystery, romance, and is fine for the whole family. Highly recommended.
Beautiful scenery (I always love beautiful scenery) and two wonderful main characters. Tom Berenger is a grumpy, reclusive and rather shy tracker who get sucked into a very unusual quest -- to find a lost Native American Tribe. He is wonderful in his roll -- he does "grumpy but lovable" better than most other actors I can think of.
Barbara Hershey is fantastic too. Beautiful, brainy, capable, dedicated and a perfect compliment to Berenger's character. I really admired her in this film.
I won't reveal too much of the plot here, but it is a delightful film, and I highly recommend it. Maybe a little on the longish side, but I wouldn't have it any other way. One of my favorite movies to date.

My Favorie

This movie has now moved into the position of being the movie I have watched the most times. The more I watch it the more I see. I don't know what the writer, director and producer intended but I think the muse was at work on this one. To me the sceen where Julia is telling Hugh that she is just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her is the soul surrendering to the beloved. All pretense is gone and only love is desired. And the love in their eyes at the end of the movie as well as the sceen on the park bench. The sufis say anything can lead us to the beloved. This film is doing a real good job of that for me.

just another film about a guy in a midlife crisis

Wonder Boys is without a doubt one of the best films I have watched in the past year. It is another one of those black comedies in which an aging man goes through a midlife crisis..Does anyone remember American Beauty? This film reminded me of Beauty a little bit. I thought it was a very well written screenplay, and I loved Alan Ball's screenplay even better(Beauty). The main character is played brilliantly by Michael Douglas, and the movie pretty much centers around him. I don't know if Wonder Boys will sweep the Oscars like Beauty did, but I think it deserves a few nods.-- Best Actor, best screenplay, and best director. Like American Beauty, I don't think this film is for everybody. It plays like a drama, but has comedic moments thrown in. I could rehash what the film is about like everyone else here, but I just want to voice that I think it is an excellent film that I was very entertained by. It was funny and though not fast paced, was very engrossing. Not to mention the amazing acting!! This film was a springboard for some of the best acting in the year 2000 -- Robert Downey Jr., Tobey McGuire, and Frances McDormand. If you are a fan of any of these actors, especially Michael Douglas, you will appreciate this movie.
