damn sam

Not your typical American action film, John Woo creates high art with his choreographed gun battles with more rounds shot than all the Die Hard movies together. Those of you looking for a Hong Kong version of "Face/Off" need not read further, those of you who like to be challenged and provoked by film must see this movie. Truly a masterpiece of modern film. This is not a movie for the faint of heart, but neither is it for the $50million dollar hero gets girl at the end crowd. Chow Yun-Fat is at his most compelling in this film. To convince the audience a bad guy can truly be good and just is his ultimate feat.
On par with "A Better Tomorrow" and "Bullet in The Head".

It's awesome!

Great sound mix, excellent video, and the band sounds fantastic.
You really get a sense of how appreciative Jeff Lynne is of the fans, it really is too bad the tour was cancelled.
Trust me, watching his "co singer" Rosie Vela is worth the price alone.
If you like ELO at all, you'll love this disk. Did I mention 24 tracks?

Pilates?? Pilates!!

Ok, so after all the hype I decided to try pilates.... And I did this workout and it was hard, but it wasn't..... it wasn't intense like tae-bo but doing the actual moves did take concentration and strength. After a few weeks I noticed a BIG difference in my stomach. That abdomen part.. you know...right below your belly button? The one that you can do reverse crunches forever and barely make a difference? Well that part was FLAT! It has never been flat, always a little bit of a pot belly... So it won't give you that six pack - but do it consistently and it will give you a flatter tummy. It also made me feel more graceful and taller. Ana Caban is a good instructor although some of her cueing is not as helpful as it could be.

Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her - movie DVD cover picture

'Waiting to Exhale', 'If These Walls Could Talk' - we've seen all the all-female films and they all have one thing in common - they're all boring, so I wasn't looking forward to this film, which I was only seeing, because of my admiration for Calista Flockhart. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. My faith has been restored - not only is each performance absolutely maginificent, but the direction and script is superb. Calista Flockhart's performance is just incredible and Cameron Diaz proves that there's more to her than just her looks. There's not one weak performance and if you think 'Well, it didn't do well at the box office, so it can't be very good', just remember that nor did 'Being John Malkovich', but that was superb. This film is totally totally mesmerising. A must see for anyone, who just wants to bask in brilliance.

Pay It Forward - movie DVD cover picture
If Only More People Would "Pay It Forward"

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this video as I missed seeing it at the theatre when it was out. I had seen clips of the trailer and just KNEW this movie had substance. The movie will not only keep you riveted for the 123 minutes but it will stir your soul and start you thinking how you yourself can "Pay It Forward" in your life.
The movie introduces us to Trevor as he starts into one of those life changing stages in a young man's/lady's life....the 7th grade. Along with Trevor, we meet his 7th grade Social Studies teacher, Mr. Simonet. Mr. Simonet stretches the youth imaginations as far as they want to take them with elongating their vocabulary and then making an assignment for extra come up with a way to make an influence and better society.
Trevor's life thus far has been a hard one thus far with an alcoholic mother (Helen Hunt), an alcoholic and a living in the street grandmother (Angie Dickinson) and an alcoholic and abusive dad (Jon Bon Jovi). He takes Mr. Simonet's assignment to heart and starts diagramming his theory.
For each person, find three people to help out and "Pay It Forward". Don't pay a person back but extend to others the help or kindness you have been bestowed. We see how one little man's idea, spreads and how one person CAN make a difference in life.
I can't give away the ending but let's just say that I got so wrapped up in the movie and its message that I had to sit with the box of Posh Puff's. Rarely does a movie move me to this degree and further...thinking how I can myself "Pay It Forward" to make my little difference in life.
In this day of horrendous tragedy, I think this is a movie that every person should see and be moved by. We should all be not only united and helping our neighbor but we should be thinking of ways we can also "Pay It Forward" to overcome adversity.
I highly, highly recommend this one for purchase to your video library!

Troma classic 4 sure!

I first seen this movie when i was about 10 years old. It really freaked me out with its wierdness but years after, when i got to about 19 years old, i still couldnt get it out of my head. Then i started wondering if its out on DVD, to my surprise, it was! WOW! I thought i was the only one who really dig this film, slapstick humour, perfectly cast characters, some sexy, not to mention, psycho chicks & troma style gore! Even the main characters get in touch with thier darkside's! Its a classic & includes a lot of characters from the toxic avenger movies. Its a classic troma film, & a stand-alone awesome independant film aswell. If u aint seen a Troma film b4, definetly check it out. It bends hollywood rules & goes beyond them! Lloyd Kaufman's a genius! Its a low budget film but some of the special FX will amaze you....By the way, i havent even got the 1 with special features like deleted scenes & commentary, so even more reason to buy this, i am.

Checking in or checking out?

Even after more than 40 years, and even after having seen it so many times, I am still caught up in the tension which director Hitchcock develops so carefully. I am still shocked by the famous (infamous?) shower scene and by later moments in the Bates residence. It is thus a tribute to Hitchcock, his cast, and crew that this breakthrough retains its shock value after so many years. Hitchcock requires his audience to be especially alert to seemingly insignificant details as well as to playful insertions. More often than not, we are thus aware of what his leading characters miss. The first time around, I spotted him wearing (all things) a cowboy hat but only after several viewings did I spot Ted Knight in a small role as a prison guard. Her adulterous relationship with Sam Loomis (John Gavin) notwithstanding, Janet Leigh (as Marion Crane) was never more attractive than in she is this film. Frankly, I am still trying to wipe from my memory Perkins' portrayal of Jim Pearsall in Fear Strikes Out. It is almost as painful to watch as William Bendix' portrayal of Babe Ruth. In this film, Perkins is brilliant as Norman Bates.
Even as I saw this film again, I wanted to warn Norman's victims before it is too late. Marion, of course, but also Milton Arbogast (Martin Balsam). Don't be fooled! He really isn't the nice young man he seems to be! And for God's sake, don't go near the house! Perhaps only Hitchcock could engage and then sustain such emotions, and do so at such a high level of anxiety. That is not the case, at least for me, with The Birds. Oh sure, a few moments which still have some bite (no pun intended) but without the seamless continuity to be found in Psycho.
Many think this is a great film, period. I think it is among the greatest of horror films. It redefined the rules for that genre. When first released, it defied so many conventions concerning adultery, nudity, and physical violence. What it suggests is even more frightening than what it portrays visually. Spielberg must have studied this film with great care. With all due respect to several moments in Jaws when, during my first viewing, I literally came up out of my seat in terror, it is the sense of infrequently seen but ever-present danger which captures our attention from the first underwater shot at night (I can still hear the cellos) until almost the very end of the film.
I have seen most of the horror films which preceded this one. With only minor deviations, they tend to follow a formula. Even at an early age, I realized that violent thunderstorms with lightning illuminating a castle against the late-night sky, especially with a sound track featuring violin music, indicate that SOMETHING REALLY BAD is about to happen. The moment I became fond of a minor character, I knew that character was doomed. These films were almost completely predictable. The only question is "When?"
Not so with Psycho, at least when viewed for the first time. And as I indicated earlier, Hitchcock still gets me emotionally involved even if by now I almost know the screenplay by heart. How does he accomplish that? I have yet to come up with answer that satisfies me. Meanwhile, I will continue to appreciate his art and especially films of his such as this.
Thanks to the DVD format, both image and sound are much clearer. I also appreciate having supplementary materials such as the documentary "The making of Psycho" featuring new interviews with Janet Leigh, Hitchcock's daughter Patricia Hichtcock O'Connell, writer Joseph Stefano and Hilton A. Green; one censored scene; newsreel footage; and the shower scene both with and without music. Excellent stuff!
