The Best Carlin Special Period

Simply put, this was the special that hooked me on George Carlin...and I only saw it by complete accident. Or should I say heard it. The first contact I had with a Carlin special came on a winter night when the power went out. When it finally came back on the TV came back automatically but, before I could fire up the VCR, I began hearnig some stand-up. HBO, which we didn't get at the time, turned out to be on the same channel that my TV's default channel was and HBO was somehow coming in strong on audio that night. Too lazy to get up I began listening and never turned it off. Only at the end when I could squint and see some credits did I realize that this was George Carlin. Eventually I'd end up getting most of his performances on DVD or tape, but this is still hands-down the best. My favorite skit is the classic "Prison Farms/Balance the ****in Budget" which I've done many the paper on.

Love Hina Continuation...!

I guess you gotta say this anime is out there but it's great. Pretty much what everyone else wrote is accurate. The humor's a little risque but it's worth it. Nothing too um...well ya know kinky. I really just wanted to say the anime doesn't end just at 25 and the specials (the movies that is). It continues! I myself have just purchased Love Hina Final Selection. It comes with the final chapter 26 of the series in addition to a bonus cd featuring some music concerts performed by the voice actors...or should I say actresses themselves, and some behind-the-scene looks. This dvd is a plus for LH fans and a MUST for diehards. Please if you haven't read the manga I STRONGLY recommend it. Though the dvd is nice it has a lot of gaps (or should I say a feeling of incompleteness) to it cuz the story is a little out of sequence and some events that would help develop the story a little more are cut out. Try the manga first if you're giving this anime a try. Ja Ne!!

Good Horror Movie

First of all, it just seems all the best movies are based on books. I mean, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Time Machine is okay. So, they made The Ring, based on a popular novel by Koji Suzuki. The movie is about a mysterious video tape that has awful consequences for the watchers. Four teenagers watch the tape and they all die at exactly 10:00. Then, a reporter tries to figure out how they died. You see a freaky image one of the dead ones and then the reporter swipes the video. She watches it and has 7 days to live. It's a great horror movie and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get freaked. One question: Shouldn't it be rated R?

5 Stars But.........

....this is the second dang time they have said they were going to release this movie and then pulled it. What is going on???!!!! I love this movie, but now after they did this twice I am no longer going to buy it. You can't promise something twice and then yank it from under us. No sir! I have an old VHS that I taped from cable, and that will do because I ain't giving any money for this film now! Too bad because it is one of the best films ever made, with incredible performances by Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, and Bill Murray. Oh well.

This is a must have!

If you ever watched Space 1999 when you were younger, you must get this. Space 1999 was the bridge sci-fi show between Star Trek and Star Wars. When you watch these shows, not only will you NOT remember the episodes, but you will be amazed at how good they really were. Of course, there are the tacky episodes and every now and then you'll see strings holding up the Eagles, but the episodes are great and these flaws only add to the uniqueness of the shows. If you like Star Trek and Star wars, this is a 'Must Have' collection.

Licence To Kill (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
BEST ENTRY OF THE 80'S!

An ex-girlfriend told me once that Timothy Dalton is a sexier Bond that Pierce Brosnan. I wouldn't know. But I definitely find him more sophisticated that either Brosnan or Roger Moore for the simple fact that he makes Bond human. Dalton gives the character limitations and vulnerabilities, some not seen since 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service,' others not since the original Fleming novels. In 'Licence to Kill' he gives a good character portrayal for a good story.

'Licence to Kill' is darker and more serious than most 007's films and is probably why some stray away from it. But what it demonstrates is that with all the sinister villains Bond has faced over the years, he to can have a sinister side. In 'Licence to Kill' Bond's loyalty is not to England or the free world but to himself and his ego as he runs amok on a bloody vendetta. And the principal villain (Robert Davi) isn't interested in ruling the world but filling his pockets with drug money. The difference in motivations is a nice change after years of largely the same song. The level of action also goes farther than usual, but not too far. The editing job makes the film appear more violent than it really is.

The script is also more intelligent than usual, as the veteran cliches of sex, gadgets, and improbable stunts are toned down a bit to allow one to concentrate on the characters more, which are really the meat of the film. No other entry displays Bond quite like this. His brutality, cryptic expressions, and almost villainous posturing can make one cringe as he lowers himself to his opponents level with one thing in mind; killing him. Desmond Llewelyn's Q is given his biggest film role as he returns from the classic comic relief the character had become, now being more significant to the plot. Carey Lowell, one of two heroines, is a breach from the usual two-dimensional Bond girl. She's independent, can look out for herself, and looks good while doing it. The other (Talisa Soto) is a gold digger and a hopelessly naive one, (a tribute to the many women of the series like her I suppose). The combining of the two provides a unique twist to Bond's always hectic love life.

'Licence to Kill' is not a return to the style and times of the 60's Bond entries when spy-mania was at its height. Rather it's an example that sometimes, a breach in formula can bring new aspects to a series without destroying the ones on which it was created. Bottom line, if you enjoy a good action movie, this one can be watched relatively free of guilt.

A memorable must see for all.

If you believe the impossible, the incredible can come true."If you build it, he will come." Those words have become part of our vocabulary, words of inspiration for each of us to enjoy. Those words inspired Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella though a voice he can't ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. There are lessons to learn. Field of Dreams is an enjoyable and inspiring movie to share with all children. Parents sit with your children and share the magic! It will be a wonderful couple of hours together.
