You wouldnt be here if you werent interested!

A great movie. Tim Burton, fresh off the disney lot hooks well into this movie, getting the chance to do multiple Genre's in one film. A great piece of limited budget and special effect, proving a good script and good actors can save you ever time. The DVD is fair, with some specials on it and extra footage. The commentary by Burton and Ruebins is alright, although they sit and laugh a bit too much. Still, interesting insight into some of the little things in the movie. I Would recommend this movie to anyone interested in film, or comedy!

Don't listen to that stupid review below.

There is a review posted giving this movie 1 star, saying that it destroys americas youth. I am one of americas youth, and this movie has not done anything harmful to me or even made me think or act poorly on anything that they are accusing these films of doing. This movie does not do anything of the sort. It is an interesting movie which is fun to watch and even kinda provacative. I give it 3.5 stars, but i gave it 5 stars because i needed to raise the average because that one reveiw unfairly lowered it too much. If you like snoop and gangsta flicks, rent this movie you should enjoy the film. At the very least it deserves a rent.

Superb - emotionally wrenching and fascinating

Before I say anything else about Remains of the Day, I have to comment on what struck me most about the film - how it is paced. This might seem like a fairly unimportant attribute of a film, but in Remains of the Day, the flow of the film borders on perfect. The direction glides along effortlessly, with excellent editing and camerawork to boot. Not once did I feel a scene lingered to long, or was cut short. The movie's content matters, too, of course, and it is wonderful. Hopkins and Thompson are fantastic, and their relationship is one of the most involving and heartbreaking I've ever scene of film. The subplot concerning James Fox's character's flirtations with foreign policy in the darkest of times is also fascinating, and Ivory does a great job of giving all of the those scenes an eerily grand, yet hopeless atmosphere. After the film was over, I was left subdued and contemplative, and, even with all of the repressed emotions and tragic choices that inhabited the landscape of the picture, longed for the haunting world it portrayed. I know I'm in the minority, but I believe this film is superior to Schinder's List. It would have won best picture in almost any other year.

A charmer from Down Under

The only bad thing I can say about this film is the fact that it took nearly four years for it to reach the US. The tag line pretty much sums it up -- what was intended as a one night stand turns into more than the participants expect. Sexy -- definitely (I may never look at wildlife documentaries quite the same way again); funny -- in many places hilarious, especially when examining the Mars/Venus aspect of burgeoning relationships (toilet seats, dressing time); and surprisingly sweet. The stars are charming, attractive and very real, both emotionally and physically (after years of plastic Hollywood types, you have NO idea how pleasant it is to see a good looking guy who is NOT Mr. Universe, and a good looking woman without augmentation), and are ably supported by the rest of the cast, particularly the actress (whose name I now can't remember, my apologies!) who plays the cabbie and doubles as a relationship counselor.

There's a saying that life is what happens when you're busy making plans -- perhaps love is what can happen when you're busy having sex, if you let it. Well worth your time, and share it with a friend.

The Diary of Anne Frank - movie DVD cover picture
This is the definitive movie for Anne's Diary

*** SPOILER if you have not read the diary or seen any of its movies yet
Absolutely no scene in movie history is as simultaneously gripping and gently conveyed as the final scene, when Peter Van Damme and Anne Frank hold hands and look out to the sky as the Gestapo beat down their door to take them to a death camp. The adults look down in the direction of the door and stand or sit still and wait for them to enter, resigned to the fact that they just can not escape the fate that the Nazis have assigned to them.
Nobody runs or even speaks, and Otto Frank puts down the newspaper and hands his wife her bag, as if they are going on a trip. Such small simple movments convey such finality for these 7 people who have shared the unimaginable experience of being caged liked animals to escape being killed like animals, because one man in power decided people of their religion and race should not live.
That scene says more than a million car chases and explosions. Watch it and see what I mean.

The teen movie of our generation

Forget what ever you may have heard. This is one of the funniest movies ever. The virtual unknown cast (at the time it was made) makes this a cult classic and the measuring stick movie for generations to come. The antics of the gang will have you laughing from start to finish. And Jim's! He is funny as heck! You can not go wrong with this one. So much better than the sequal. For anyone who had "one of those years" in high school, you must see this movie.

A great great Movie !

This is a GREAT movie. The acting is fantastic. Nicholson is just amazing also with the other guys. You understand easily why the movie won 5 academy awards. It's funny to see Dany Devito with hair and Louise Fletcher, the nasty but so quiet nurse, is so gorgeous and unfortunately evil. You won't understand how much you will sympathize with all those nuts but It happens. Thanks Milos Forman !

Shakespeare as it should be done!

Many people call themselves Shakespeare fans because they enjoy listening to the language and also enjoy the plots visually, but to understand the language as you see the action unfold is by far the only way to properly enjoy it. This movie accomplishes that by using what seems like perfectly casted actors who speak their lines as a shakespearian actor should...slowly, and with no background noise or score. Many times the language is ruined because the actors rush the lines. The first 45 minutes is a little harder to understand than the rest, but only because the charcaters are talking about things that have taken place before the movie started, and it requires alot of inferencing.
Many people also get turned-off by the fact that it does not seem to take place at any one time, but rather spans all of time. Modern meets old. Someone in a toga standing next to someone in a suit. I think this is the only way you should attempt shakespeare. Although his stories may be time-specific, his characters, emotions, and plot-lines aren't. Therefore by removing the time and/or anachronisms, it is easier to focus on what is happening, along with admiring the beautiful sets and costumes. Once you renounce time in this movie, only the beauty of what is being shown remains. The lighting, color scheme and interpretive direction is amazing.
I recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in seeing just how cool Shakespeare is, or a shakespeare fan who has a love for his language, and play on words, and has been disappointed with other movie adaptions.
