You want to live forever?

Having watched and purchased all the available episodes of 'Roughnecks', I can honestly say this is the best of the bunch. I enjoyed watching the technical aspect improve from episode to episode, but the storytelling has matured as well.Any fan of the series must have wondered, what would happen if the bugs ever got to Earth? Homefront begins to tell that story, in all the glory and tragedy of any battle on your own doorstep. Each episode stands on it's own merit, but taken together, the series weaves together seamlessly into a greater whole. For once, fans of the book and fans of the Movie can agree on something, Roughnecks delivers.

Great movie

This is a wonderful movie version of the musical "Bye Bye Birdie". However, they do not sing "An English Teacher", "One Boy", "A Healthy Normal American Boy", or "Kids". In spite of this, I reccomend the movie to everyone.

Intimate look at the private life of Elvis Presley

This is the documentary about Elvis I was waiting for during the last years. Not the familiair story, films and photo's (witch are also very good) but a look behind the scenes. A lot of private footage and not only some long time interviews. Any Elvis fan will like this DVD, I can assure you that. In my opinion it's the best documentary since THIS IS ELVIS.
And for now... let's wait for ON TOUR and '77 IN CONCERT... keep on hoping...

We Love Bear!

My 17 month old ADORES bear! She got this video for her first birthday, and my 3 year old son swears by it (literally!) "Bear says everyone has accidents!" As with any Bear in the Big Blue House video, this is absolutely wonderful! It's great for kids of all ages, and moms and dads won't loose their minds listening to it over and over and over.....

A Masterpiece!

In 1980 a film was released that made cinematic history. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring the great Robert De Niro, Raging Bull was released and caused jaws to drop throughout the film world. It recieved rave reviews and was also nominated for plenty of Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. As always, the Academy picked the wrong winners for most of the awards including Robert Redford for Best Director instead of Martin Scorsese. They did though give Robert De Niro his well deserved Best Actor award.
What really set Raging Bull apart from the rest of the 80's films was the fact that it was filmed in black and white. This may seem like a mistake to some, but after watching it you'll understand the reason for this. It makes you feel like you are actually watching old boxing mathces from the 1940's. Robert De Niro plays Jake La Motta, an Italian Bronx fighter that is constantly battling not only his opponents, but also himself. He is constantly accusing his wife or adultry which eventually drives her away from him. La Motta also has to battle the pressures given to him by the mob, like in many Martin Scorsese films.
Joe Pesci stars as Jake's brother Joey. Jake also pushes Joey further and further away from him with his anger-driven accusations. There are some of the best boxing scenes ever caught on film in this movie, especially during La Motta's fights with Sugar Ray Robinson.
At the end of the 80's a poll that was given to tons of film critics revealed that the majority of them felt that Raging Bull was the best picture of the 80's.
If you are planning on buying Raging Bull I would highly recommend that you buy the DVD instead of VHS. The DVD does not contain tons of extras or anything but it does have a lot better picture and sound compared to the VHS version. Overall, Raging Bull has all of the key elements that not only make up a good movie but also one of the best of films of our time.

What can I say about such a great movie?! It is a heartwarming, funny and extremely entertaining movie that my whole family enjoyed. We do not purchase movies, but we had to get this one along with the soundtrack!! Even my "cool dude" 16 year old son loves this movie so much, he takes it to parties! And his favorite song on the soundtrack (which both my children know by heart!) is "Lovin' You Lots and Lots". We listen to it while on the computer!! The casting was perfect! Tom Everett Scott was "wonderful" and Steve Zahn was hilarious!! I just loved the scene where he plays "Go Fish" with the two elderly gentlemen!! What a riot!!! I could go on about the other cast members too, they were all fantastic. I wish there were more movies like this that everyone can enjoy. Thank you Tom Hanks for being in movies and making movies that appeals to everyone and that you can take your whole family to see....Cheers to you!!

The Letter - movie DVD cover picture
"With all my heart, I still love the man I killed!"

This is an excellent adaptation of Somerset Maugham's play about the wife of a Malaysian plantation owner who kills her lover and claims it was self defense. However, there exists an incriminating letter...

The role of Leslie Crosbie was previously performed on stage by Katherine Cornell and Gladys Cooper and filmed in 1929 with Jeanne Eagles. Davis gives one of her greatest performances in a carefully nuanced orchestration of pent-up sexual frustration. Equally good is Herbert Marshall as her suffering husband and James Stephenson as the lawyer who reluctantly defends her. Tragically, Stephenson would die of a heart attack the following year at the age of 52. Both Stephenson and Davis would receive Oscar nominations for their work here.

Another unforgettable performance comes from Gale Sondergaard who plays the Eurasian wife of the victim and possessor of the incriminating document. Her chalky face and garish jewelry will give you up the creeps as will the looks of death she gives to Davis. She has very few lines (and they are in Mandarin) but what an entrance she makes! The confrontation scene between Davis and Sondergaard, eerily played with no music aside from wind chimes, has to be one of most tense and memorable scenes ever filmed. Speaking of music, the score by Max Steiner is one of his best.

Other great elements of "The Letter" are the atmospheric photography and sets which perfectelly set the mood of the hot and humid nights on a rubber plantation and the ever present full moon, appearing and disappearing behind clouds and casting shadows (and an accusing glance) on the face of the guilty heroine.

The dvd looks great (on a 36" tv at least) with the wonderful black and white photography sharpy rendered and no notices of nicks or scratches. An alternate ending is featured which basically excerpts a scene in which Davis tells Marshall that she still loves the man she killed. Davis did not want the scene included because she felt that her character could not be so callous to her husband! Director William Wyler wisely included it! Two radio versions (in 1941 and 1944) are also included with both Davis and Marshall reprising their roles. Vincent Price plays the lawyer role in the 1944 version.

"Americano eh? Just like me"

Have you ever brought an outsider into your group of close friends? You try to get them involved in the conversation as they sit alone not saying a word with a look of awkwardness on their face. Your friends and you have an intimate relationship that span many years and you shared many experiences and laughs that anybody entering your conversation would be intimidated.

Arrested Development isn't trying to occupy your life for a half hour every week; it is trying to be one of your close friends. It wants you to share in the subtlety of a one word joke that will have your side hurting from laughing so hard because you have been friends for awhile and have experienced a lot together. It is not a sitcom or a business model; it is a real live person. You could never explain to another person the story behind a photo and have them laugh as hard when they see that picture you have of the girl in the "Slut" t-shirt.

Fans of AD are not pretentious people; we are just close friends with the show. It is a relationship that may have begun as casual acquaintances, but it grew to where it is now: solid as a rock.

We invite anybody to join just as long as they spend time with us and commit to the friendship. We can't just have one or two meetings and expect to know each other. So please, join us down at the big yellow joint so you won't make a huge mistake.

I'll agree with everybody else this show isn't for everybody, but the people who give it a serious chance will be thankful they did. I've gotten two of my friends addicted to this show and I don't normally watch television. Arrested Development is that good. I had to stop watching it at work secretly on my laptop when I was trying not to laugh by covering my mouth with my hand, but this just made me cry.

In my opinion, the funniest thing to hit television and one of the most creative shows ever. Congrats AD, after only two seasons you've beaten The Simpsons as my all time favorite show.
