You just take it from ol' Jack Burton...

What a funny and funnier, magical, mystical Chinatown adventure, with beautiful girls, unlikely heroes and lots of weird half-supernatural meanies!

Kurt Russell is so absolutely much fun as Jack Burton, a burrito-eatin' truck driver, with a chip on his shoulder to get his 3000 bucks and help friends and green-eyed damsels in supernatural distress ("son-of-a-bit*h must pay...") Kim Cattrall, Gracie "lawyer" Law gets mixed up in the whole Chinese green-eyed mystical caper, and you'll probably easily recognize the faces of the main Chinese/Asian actors from other wonderful movies.

All in all, it's such a silly and fun movie, with such incredibly weird dialog that you can't help but love it! Watch it as a double feature with Eddie Murphy in "The Golden Child," both wonderfully fun supernatural Chinese adventures! Oh, and don't forget the chopsticks for the Kung Pao Tofu! :)

Amazing Movie

I saw this movie at a private screening in LA last year, and am very excited to have it on DVD!!Robert wrote and directed an absolutely amazing movie, based loosely on his life growing up in Alabama, the people trying to run him out of town because they thought he was a devil worshiper because he loves Horror movies, and making monsters.A wonderful cast including Laura Prepon, Hal Sparks, Bret Harrison, Kevin Gage, Ashley Laurence, and Josh Todd just to name a few.
Lightning Bug will not disappoint, add this fantastic movie to your collection!!
(Robert owns a Special FX company in LA called Almost Human (almosthuman.net), he did creatures on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the Angel Series. He did the FX in the new Deuce Bigalow Movie. Catch FOX's show, THE INSIDE, to see Rob's gory work :) )

Top class movie

"Where the money is" is a movie which rises above the rest in its witty, well-executed plot, brilliant acting. Paul Newman does a superb job doing nothing. He acts as an aging bank robber who fakes having had a stroke to get out of prison. At first, his plan works, until his nurse notices some inconsistencies. She resorts to wild ventures to get him to admit to faking the stroke (such as lap dancing). Nothing works until she pushes him off a pier into a river, when he is forced to swim. For some perverted reason, she takes a liking to him and his bank robbing. So the two of them, and the nurse's husband team up to rob an armoured car. I won't spoil the ending - whether they get away with it or not - but I will say this movie is definitely worth watching. It has a well thought out script although at times it seems that they get away too easily with their robberies. Comical scenes are intertwined with serious advice on how to rob a bank, rendering a truly worthwhile Hollywood production (for once).

Pumpkinhead - movie DVD cover picture
Fear Fable...

PUMPKINHEAD is not your typical monster movie. Yes, there is a great looking monster in it, but it is not the only reason this movie is so cool. Ed Harley (Lance "Near Dark" Henriksen) runs a little side-of-the-road grocery store with his beloved son Billy. One day, a group of city folks stop by on their way to a cabin in the mountains. They're just some kids out for a fun-filled vacation of dirt-biking etc. Unfortunately, one of them runs over Billy while practicing in a field near the store. Ed is away, and must find out when he returns that his only son is dead. The whole thing was an accident, but Ed is blinded by sorrow and rage and wants revenge for the injustice. He remembers an old woman in the woods who can call forth a demon named Pumpkinhead from an old, forgotten graveyard. Ed finds her and pays the price for her services, unleashing the creature by digging up a long-dead corpse, carrying it back to the old woman's hovel and adding his (and his son's) blood to it. Next comes the monster's rampage, where it systematically kills off the kids who did Ed Harley wrong. Now, that would make for a good monster flick right there, right? Well, Ed Harley soon finds out the true price for revenge when he begins seeing / feeling / experiencing the murders through the demon's eyes, ears, and claws! He gets to the point where he can't take anymore and intercedes on the surviving kids' behalf. PUMPKINHEAD is a dark, horror-filled morality play, with plenty of forboding atmosphere and nothing preachy / teachy about it's potent message. We get the idea without being hit over the head with it! Of course, PUMPKINHEAD is equally enjoyable as a good ol' fashioned beasty bash, with no underlying message at all. Highly recommended...

Spider-Man 2 (Widescreen Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Without propensity or prejudice:

After reading many of the consumer reviews I feel the need to state that many of you have lost sight of the fact that this movie is based on a comic book; a comic book created for children up to the age of fifteen. This in itself nullifies all allegedly intellectual reviews that argue the depth of plot or portrayal, or the fact that characters as Octavius were or were not believable. Believable? Is the very premise of a guy in spandex with "spider powers" believeable?

This being the case, one must move beyond the obvious, being particularly careful not to be influenced by any preconceived expectations negative or positive that come with such a highly-publicized film, and take it as it is. In other words: was the movie well-crafted, emotionally fulfilling; did it have a meaningful story line, did the characters have chemistry . . ?

I hadn't seen the first movie, nor had I any impression of it or this, its sequel. I had no idea of its popularity or failure, I had no knowledge of its director, actors, or even the comic books on which it was based. As a result I saw it through indifferent eyes, but once doing so, I walked out decidedly impressed.

It's a tale of psychological depth and meaning. It's a movie of unique direction: well-crafted in its scenes and symbolism. It tells it's story without apology: not afraid to make its hero troubled (surprising in our soulless society) or even to delve into the problems of an over-seventy aunt. It's an unusual film in its broadness: not afraid to use comedy, technology, action, and human drama to portray the diversity of the human condition. Yet it balances these elements with the type of nuanced timing that keeps them from seeming disjunct or becoming thrematically fatiguing. In the same way the actors are seamlessly joined together by great chemistry, making the characters seem alive.

. . . A very, very well done film. Then when you consider it's a movie based on a stereotypical comic book character: it's excellent.

But my suggestion isn't that you take my word for it, but that you judge it for your self . . . without any bias derived from this or any other review.

Another great one from the Happy Madison Crew!!!!

NOTHING to say about this pathetic attempt. It is just plain bad. The only redeeming feature was that Christopher Walken is ten times as funny as David Spade! Every scene is truly apalling and the Joe Dirt character is annoying and TOO stupid to be a lead. The Joe Dirt character must have been directly stolen from the janitor character from UHF, and that guy was WAY funnier than Joe Dirt! Let me get this out of my system: JOE <Freaking> DIRT IS NOT FUNNY. PERIOD, END OF STORY.
I was AMAZED when I came to this page to review this movie, of how many positive reviews this got. WWWHHHYYYYY?????????
I would be a savior ... to whoever reading this review that hasn't seen this movie to say SAVE YOURSELF AND WATCH A CLASSIC LIKE THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION!

an amazing film made even better on DVD

There's nothing to add to the chorus of high praise this masterpiece has already received, so I won't try. Just one point: the restored version features a new score, VOICES OF LIGHT. I'm not the biggest fan of grafting new music to vintage films - too often it's ill-fitting, adding nothing but a showy distraction to the narrative . Here it's a marriage made in Heaven. Absolutely the most moving and mesmerizing film score I've ever heard, greatly enhancing an already great movie. Viewers in 1928 were probably thunderstruck by Dreyer's vision and imagery, but Einhorn's score gives voice to Joan's inner devotion and faith, transforming this film of sexist persecution and religious hypocrisy into a true passion play of martyrdom. As for historical inaccuracies, remember that this is not a movie about Joan of Arc but about the Trial of Joan of Arc. It's not History but History refracted through slow glass for the purposes of Art.

South Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut - movie DVD cover picture
One of the Funniest of 1999!

I noticed that there are several negative reviews of this motion picture. While I can accept that there are some who love the TV show and were disappointed about the movie treatment, I was rather perplexed about those who were offended by the scatalogical humor and the profanity. I should have thought that the movie's title alone, if not Stone and Parker's association with it, would have been warning enough. For those who watched it in spite of the obvious warning signals and got offended, I can only say that you got what you asked for. Next time, try something that won't offend your thin-skinned sensibility-like Snow White.
That said, "Southpark: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" is one of the three funniest movies of 1999 (the others are "American Pie" and "Austin Powers-The Spy Who Shagged Me). The picture is a brilliant satire of censorship and political correctness along with the attendant hypocrisy that goes along with such concepts. Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny see an R-rated movie starring their idols Terrence and Phillip, two Canadians whose stock in trade is fart jokes and insults the like of which I've never heard before.
In typical fashion, the boys' mothers, particularly Kyle's mother, who is somewhat of an activist, go on the warpath to have Terence and Philip arrested and condemned to death. The execution is to take place at a USO show where Winona Ryder displays an unusual talent (I understand she was very offended by this portryal). This execution in turn is a sign of Satan's imminent rule. Satan and his gay lover (Saddam Hussein) are watching the signs and having their own problems. Where do Parker and Stone come up with these ideas?
All of these plots come together in an outrageously funny that some will find offensive. Those who think with their minds in gear and tongue firmly planted in cheek and who are not given to emotional excess will see this picture for what it is: an in-your-face full frontal assault on the hypocrisy of censorship and political correctness that takes no prisoners.
