You don't know what you're missing

Kill Bill volume 1 is probably 1 of THE best movies ever made. It is a funny blood drenched spoof about a young woman who is betrade, by her colleagues and left for dead. she wakes up one day and finds that she has been in a comae for 4 years. And now she is seeking revenge on those have betrade her. This is a must see and when Kill Bill volume 2 comes out be sure to see that to. I give the movie a 10 out of 5 (I had to choose 5 becuase thats the limit.) I'll write a revew of the second film when I see it. Thanks for reading my review. ...-thank you

Red Dragon - Collector's Edition (Widescreen) - movie DVD cover picture
By far the best of the trilogy!

Let's get the Red Dragon vs. Manhunter thing out of the way; seeing how almost every reviewer wants to compare them.
Thomas Harris refused to let the makers of Manhunter use his title with good reason: " Manhunter " was an absolute butchry of the novel! i thought that LONG before Silence of the Lambs was ever released! The acting, the music, the Miami Vice look to the characters { obviously Micheal Mann was transfering his television imagery to film at the time )was just terrible. and I'm sorry---Brian Cox is a good actor; but he NEVER at anytime struck me as the kind of creepy socipath who could literly crawl around in your skull! And the guy who played Dolyerhyde was as wooden and bland as they come.
ANYWAY---Red Dragon, on the other hand, is far more faithful to the novel, although it does extend Lecter's part for Anthony Hopkins, but that is more than a welcome change! Edward Norton, despit his youth, is far more believeable as Wil Graham, the tortured " iddecker " profiler who is called out of retirement by Crawford, portrayed by Harvey Kietal, who is far better in the role than Scott Glenn was. And in Norton, we finally have an intellectual advasary capable of matching wits with Lecter, seeing how his character IS the one who caught him { always thought Foster was miscast as Starling, as great a movie as it was....Juliane Moore made the charcter a STRONG female lead in " Hannibal " [ don't get me wrong I love Silence too] }. Ralph Fiennes is an evil nighmare personified as Francis Dolyerhyde; but unlike the awful actor in " Manhunter ", he is able to make a monsterous character sympathetic, and this movie gives us more insight into Dolyerhyde's past and what made him INTO a monster.
Emily Watson is expectional as Dolyerhyde's only redeeming quality Reba; Anthony Heald is back and in fine form as Dr. Chilton, who will NEVER get the better of Lecter { and will eventually end up on Lecter's menu by the end of Silence! }; and Anthony Hopkins, of course, is top notch as evil incarnate Hannibal Lector, who even as he appears to help Graham track the Dragon, plots the FBI's agent's demise from the confines of his cell. And Danny Elfman's score is nothing short of magnificant.
Skip Manhunter...it's up there with Halloween III as being one of the worst movies of all time; except HIII has the redeeming quality of being horridly funny in moments. RED DRAGON is the way Thomas Harris wanted his novel to be done on screen; he's said so himself.

An excellent action movie

Frankly, I dont understand how movie critics could find something negative about this fantastic action packed thriller. The story is well written, the characters, esp. Geena Davis (once the sweet teacher, then the cold-harded CIA killer) and Samuel L. Jackson, are both fascinating and funny... There is not one single boring minute in this movie... Dont miss it :-)

5 stars is not enough to classified this great film! With a great direction, by Walter Salles, great cinematography, wonderful original score, divine screenplay and the best role played by Fernanda Montenegro, the biggest actress in Brazil, this film was simply made with heart to those who have hearts! For me, THE BEST FILM OF 90's!!! There's no other that has the quality and the Beauty of this! I'm proud of being brazilian, watching this film! It shows my country like it realy is, with lots of problem, but with people touched by heart! Thank you Walter for a marvellous work! And Fernanda Montenegro, the Oscar doesn't deserve your magnitude! You're the best in 1998 for sure!

Spectacular Action & Special Effects

The Matrix took my breath away with superb slow-motion and fluid "Japanimation" action sequences. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is the best I've heard on any DVD, period. This is the DVD you pull out when you want to demo your home theater system or if you want to sit mesmerized with a great story that brims with spiritual overtones. Clean storyline with no sex or foul language although there are lots of very realistic and superbly choreographed hand to hand fighting and combat sequences. This is a must for all action movie lovers that want a solid all-around movie. The only complaint I have is regarding a green tint to the video (the rumor is that it's an aftereffect of scaling down from the 16:9 encoded picture although not everyone I've heard from has noticed this green tint - adjusting the tv tinting to full red helps greatly). Still a full 5 star thumbs up movie that you will definitely enjoy.

True Classics!

I've noticed quite a few comments about the quality of these DVDs, mostly complaints. I feel just the opposite. This is exactly how I remember these films on Chiller Theater Saturday nights during the 60's. Sure they are scratchy and hissy, but they are over 70 years old! Thats part of their appeal! Had they remastered them in a Criterion way, it just wouldn't be the same. If you were as fascinated by these films as I was as a kid, you're sure to get a kick out of seeing them w/o commercial interuption, or some TV station self promo in the bottom corner of the screen. I watched Dracula last night and it was wonderful! Don't miss out on this set!

The Best Of Al- But not on VHS

First off, a slap to Al with a rubber chicken for not releasing this on VHS also. Hopefully that will be done in the future. Now for the real reson you're here... My opinion! :) If you're a fan of Weird Al then this DVD is a must have. No where else can you find all of his videos in one place. From "Like A Surgeon", "Eat It", "Fat" & "Amish Paradise" this has them all, including some that I'd forgotten about (like "Living with a Hernia" & "One More Minute"). You can chose to go directly to a certain video from the menu screen & the liner notes inside the box gives some info on when, where & if someone famous was in the video (like Florence Henderson in Amish Paradise). The only thing better would have been to have the original video first & then the parody so you could compare them. Maybe next time.. As you can tell, I was pleased with the video & I think you will be also.

for its sheer wackiness, this movie gets 5 stars.

i saw this as a Mystery Science Theater 3000 feature (in case you didn't know, that's a now-cancelled TV program wherein a man & his two robots watched terrible movies & made fun of them, w/great success). anyhow, most MST3K movies provoke hatred in viewers because of their intense stupidity, but i only remember this one w/affection--it's absolutely adorable! made in 1964, filmed in Finland, i believe, w/gorgeous costumes & beautiful scenery. what a wonderful, silly, adorable movie!!!
