You can do it..

This DVD is awesome. I've always admired marbled paper but was intimidated by the process. This DVD breaks the marbling process down into easy steps that takes the mystery out of the art.

The magic of creating these papers takes place in front of your eyes.

Kidsongs: I Can Dance!

This episode is awfully talented! Each Kidsongs VHS tells a story. This one is about, you guessed it! Dances! The Kidsongs Kids teach Ruby and Billy how to dance. All of the songs in this VHS are cool. The songs that are included in this adventure are:
"I Can Dace!""Dancing In The Street""Chaleston""Don't You Just Love To Waltz?""Twist And Shout""Mexican Hat Dance""The Yellow Rose Of Texas""Come On And Conga""Barefootin'"Mashed Potato Time""At The Hop""I Can Dance"
My 3 years old baby-sitting charge Garfield can't get enough of that VHS. He and I just love to watch it! If you are a Kid-At-Heart you will love it too. I am 17 years old. "Kidsongs" was and still is my fave TV-Show.
Lots Of Love, Fulliem Q. XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Don't Hesitate!!!

Possibly B.O.C.'s best live recording yet! I saw these guys a few months back and they put on the best show I have seen in ages, even after being on the road for 30+ years. This DVD captures what the band sounds like these days. My only complaint is that the DVD doesn't contain "I Love the Night". Ignore the Naysayers, this is an excellant DVD and the boys sound better than ever.

Out of Africa - movie DVD cover picture
"He even took the gramophone on safari..."

And so begins the story of Karen Blixen. From the very beginning, Sydney Pollacks visually breathtaking and emotionally tender portrait of Africa is a sumptuous feast for the senses. The opening shot itself is a luminous African sunset, red and orange on the horizon.
The film, if not for these three things, would have been a terrible cinematic mistake: cinematography, musical score, and Meryl Streep.
The cinematograpgy is absolutely exquisite and during one of the films most wrenching scenes, makes one want to shed a tear for the dissapearing beauty of the dark continent. A plane soars over the land of Africa, forests and rivers, when all of a sudden, the smooth praries give way to a valley with a lake below, and a waterfall shimmering in the sun, it's mist rising to the sky.
During this scene too, the score by John Barry rises and enhances the visuals to and emotional climax with the cresendo of the strings. This scene is by far the most wonderful of the film and when I first viewed it, I didn't want it to end. The openeing of the film is also enhanced with the magnificent score, forming a memorable theme that, when heard again, makes you think: "That is sooooo 'Out of Africa!'"
And finally, we have Meryl Streep. What can I say about her. In 1978, she co-starred with Robert DeNiro in the epic war film, "The Deer Hunter". The next year, she starred opposite Dustin Hoffman in "Kramer vs. Kramer" and eventually went on to win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role. A curious thought is that, both of these films won Best Picture, in two consecutive years. She won Best Actress for her powerful role in "Sophie's Choice" in 1982, and was nominate three years later for this film, which also won the Best Picture Oscar. Three films that have won the coveted prize star her, coincidence? I think not. I really have not met anyone who dislikes her. She is wonderful, especially here where she displays a flawless Danish accent. She is quietly strong willed, and secure as to what her plans are and intentions.
Combined with Pollack's direction, "Out Of Africa" is a marvelous film full of heart, sentiment, and Robert Redford...

Great Movie!

This is a great movie for the whole family. A wonderful story about the love and bond between a horse and a boy. When The Drake went down, Alec and the black horse are the only two survivors. They both stranded on an island where both horse and boy are forced to fend for themselves. Over the time that they are on the island, a inseparable bond grows between them. A very touching adaption from Walter Farley's book, The Black Stallion. A must see for all horse lovers. A must see for eveyone. I absolutely love this movie! It is one of my favorite horse movies. I rated this with five stars but I wish that they would have stayed closer to the book. But it is still a great movie and I give it a personal rating of 10 out of 10.

Bravo Neil!!!

This is another great example of Neil Peart. This DVD is an insight as to a great playing style and technique. Anyone who has anything off color to say about this DVD is just unkind and really did not watch the essence of this DVD. If you wish to watch Neil playing Drum solos he does one on every live album as well as on the DVD live from Rio. He also performs a drum solo at every live show. I feel that he has grown through the years and his playing style has advanced to another level. As with any progress things change. Neil shows maturity, control, insight as well as technique and most importantly whats on his mind. This is a side of Neil I have wanted to see for a long time. I feel that he has inspired many young people to pick up the sticks as well as some older players to expand. I say that unless you can do a better job of playing or writing the key is to sit and listen to what one of the best all time drummers has to say. I believe that Neil has once again outdone himself with an outstanding DVD masterpiece with modesty and humility. I applaud you Neil.

In 20 Years, This One Will Be Considered LEGENDARY

Leonard Maltin must've seen a different movie than the one audiences around the world fell in love with. Overlong? I was enraptured...by a prison drama no less! Predictable? Leonard must be psychic, because no one I've experienced this film with has anticipated its sheer emotional impact. Easily one of the best films Hollywood has ever released, Shawshank gave voice to anyone who has ever felt cheated, deprived or un-free. Americans take freedom for granted and as a Cuban immigrant, this film resonated for me in ways I can't even begin to list! From its memorable characters and incredible performances, to its shocking ending and impeccable production values, I believe Shawshank will eventually find a comfortable place on everyone's TOP TEN FILMS OF ALL TIME LIST if critics like Maltin really truly understood what an audience needs in order to feel connected and touched. Critics of this movie, at least for me, lack an emotional connection that isn't scripted, but rather...FELT. Disturbing, visceral, audacious yet real, and deeply touchingly grand, "Shawshank" blew me away. Other, more celebrated flicks may have their moments, but as a complete whole, this is easily one of the most beautifully realized buddy-movies ever made. Forget "Forrest Gump." Dismiss "Driving Miss Daisy." Few films are as unfortgettable, or as powerful as these 148 minutes. Share it with your kids....PLEASE. The morals and values that Darabount and his characters deliver are worth their weight in gold....a stunning achievement!

Faith Hill DVD When The Lights Go Down

I was not very impressed with this DVD. I do not think Faith's voice sounds very good live. Her voice is not good enough to perform. She sounds decent enough when she records, as the tracks are dubbed and altered to make her sound more appealing. If you want to hear a good live DVD, I would suggest the Dixie Chicks or someone with a powerful voice like Celine Dion. Faith's voice is just too dull to listen to live.

You'll forget you're reading subtitles....

My own personal judge of how much I enjoy a foreign film is whether or not I become so involved in the story that I forget I'm reading the subtitles. The movies that have done that for me are Life is Beautiful, Il Postino, and now Amelie.
This is an enchanting story of a young woman growing up in France and of her adult life in Paris. Her childhood is neatly explained, but the bulk of the movie concerns her life in Paris. The movie follows her and the cast of characters surrounding her as she subtly manipulates their lives: bringing together two of the regulars in the cafe where she works, sending her father's garden gnome around the world in hopes of inspiring her father to do the same, etc. She is sweet and a little bit devilish at the same time.
If you are looking for a heartwarming movie - this is it! The story is involving, the Paris shown in the movie is a place of magic, exactly what I imagined Paris to be before I visited the city. It's a wonderful film.
