You Either Like It or You Don't

I can't remember the last time I laughed so much ! I loaned it to some friends and when I called them to see how they were doing with the movie, they were laughing so much and so hard that they could not talk on the phone. But I loaned it to my brother, who has a nice sense of humor, and he did not like it.
I think it's awesome.

There it is

I'll admit I was sceptical when I first saw this movie; I was a great fan of Yoshikawa's novel, and although I loved Inagaki's Chushingura, I feared he might not be as successful with the story of Musashi.
I can say honestly I was wrong. While not as informed by Western film technique as Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (nearly contemporaneous), it is a fine movie, breaking out of the mold of Japanese cinema (which can be very staid). Of course, the great strength (as with many of Kurosawa's films) is the awesome performance by Mifune, who really came across well as Musashi.
There are no poor performances in this wonderful film, which manages at a mere 93 minutes to avoid feeling too short, while packing in a great deal of action and character development. A beautiful compression of the beginning of Yoshikawa's novel, and a prize addition to any library.

Harrison Ford for President!

I don't care how cheesy or overly patriotic those cynical reviewers think this movie was. It's good, old-fashioned, edge of your seat entertainment. The president is a decent, moral man who loves his family and takes care of business in every sense of the word and right now I'd love to see his real life counterpart in office.

This series is so much better. Scream is just mindless and stupid. This is actually scary, much unlike Scream.

Totally Awesome Duuuude!

A great fishy tale about a traumatized father, Marlin, who is overprotective of his only son, Nemo. When Nemo lashes out to challenge his fathers overbearingness he suddenly ends up in the situation his father has been dreading all along. Caught in open water by humans and off to a dentists aquarium.
Marlin then starts the long search to find him, meeting up with soom interesting charcters along the way. The most induring and nearly scene stealing is of his forgetful companion, Dory, voiced by Allen deGeneris. She comes accross really well.
Nemo finds himself trapped but with new friends and soon plots an escape.
The team at Pixar have really excelled and it is such a shame that it takes so long to make this type of animated movie. A great film for the whole family but might be a bit scary for little ones.

Costner's best in many years

OK, maybe it's a 4.5 star but really it is quite a good movie. I'm a fan of Westerns, do alot of Single Action black powder shooting (member of SASS) and talk to a number of folks who are into the Old West. We all agree that this movie makes a real effort to be true to the essence of that period.
The sets and scenary were awesome. The scenes in the town during the rain storm make you glad you live in the 21st Century believe me. They show you what it truely was to live in a western town. . . cold, drafty buildings, muddy streets, no medical care, etc. Still it was a fantastic time to be alive in America. Go west young man!
The plot is interesting and very believable. The range is closing in and greedy land barrons wanted the grazing land to themselves. Fights over range land did occur many times (Johnson County War for example) and so this is very realistic. The gun fight was excellent. Fast, chaotic, violent!
I definitely will watch it again many times. It's up there with Tombstone and Long Riders (and just a notch below Unforgiven.
