Yes, I have Grown Up With Peter Gabriel and Glad of It

Being unable to see very few of these great Acts live (Living in Australia causes this to be little expensive) makes the availability of such DVD's extremely important. This I believe is one of the finest I have had the privilege to see. Having listened to Genesis initially in 1971 and finding this music captivating I have always been drawn to Peter Gabriel, (I still stridently believe the Gabriel years were the best of Genesis and look forward to the Lamb 5.1) this concert has all the attributes of a Genius at work, the performance of the musicians (aahhh Tony Levin) with Peter also makes this one great magic moment, some might think the production is a little over the top but this is quality entertainment with brilliant sound and vision, to show the Technicians was at first odd but they are a major factor in the production, and to have them as part of the visual increases the reality factor.
As much as I enjoy The Secret World, I think they are separate concepts (needless to say in time also) I am very careful not to compare directly.
Having recently had the privilege to see YES in concert with all that goes with a live show, it is so difficult to capture a live production with all the energy and ambiance that go with that, but I think this DVD is near as close as you can get to being there. The song selection gives us a history of this brilliant Person and lets those who may not have seen the development over the last 35-40 years see what the music is about, from a conceptual point of view, if you are willing to take the time to understand. I still prefer to sit and just listen to Peter and Genesis, for that matter all my music, but to have a visual version does give that extended dimension that can excite, and send the "old shiver down the spine". This is certainly worth viewing even if you have not had the pre-"Growing Up" Knowlege of Peter Gabriel.

Princess Nine - First Inning (Vol. 1) - movie DVD cover picture
Princess Nine is one Grand-Slam!

Just when you couldn't watch another angst-ridden mecha adventure or pouty schoolgirl/vampire killer romp, ADV Films comes along with this sleeper series. From its opening scene, Princess Nine pulls you in with tantalizing tidbits and holds your interest with a great storyline and wonderful characters. However, to say Princess Nine is about baseball, is to completely miss the point. This is young girl's coming of age story that just happens to involve the creation of Japan's first all-girl High School baseball team bent on beating the boys at their own game. The music is another treat of Princess Nine. In an unusual move for an anime soundtrack, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra provides the music. Even the obligatory J-Pop opening song uses the Warsaw Philharmonic to full advantage and is head and shoulders above most of the stuff out there. As always, there will be purists who insist on only the subtitled version, but for myself, the quality of the dubbed track is what matters. There were no disappointments here either. Hilary Haag's voice just seems to fit Ryo Hayakawa perfectly as does Monica Rial's Izumi Himuro. My own personal favorite, Kelly Manison, gives Kiasaragi Chairwoman, Keiko Himuro just the right mix of sultriness and authority. Add Christine M.Auten's voice as Shino, Ryo's mom, and you've practically got a Knight Sabers reunion. Trust me, Princess Nine will be a series that you'll want to watch again and again and a great addition to your anime collection.

"A Golden Masterpiece"

I have so much respect for Kathryn Hepburn's work that I was felt sorry for her putting up with this disrespect even as a character.
The language was so foul and assultive (is that a word?) that it was ruined for me.

ENTERTAINING MR. GRAY...............

The other week I read an interview with Stephen King in which he claimed that the film Dreamcatcher was an adaptation of one of his novels that he actually liked. Seeing as I love King's novels and dislike most of the film adaptations (the same as him), I thought I would check this film out, and had high expectations for it. After watching it, I don't know what King was thinking when he made the aforementioned comment, because it was just like most of his movies; the first half hour is brilliant, making you think you're in for a great film, but winds up being a load of over-exaggerated rubbish. The storyline of the film is roughly similar to It, four friends come face to face with a group of leech-like aliens who are connected with an experience from childhood, and must fight to get rid of it. Although the special effects of the aliens are admittedly impressive, the overall feel of the film is undoubtedly corny.
Like most horror films, there are obvious flaws. As those who watched the film would know, why on earth did the character given the job of preventing the alien escaping from a toilet lid by sitting on it, risk his life by repeatedly reaching for the floor to grab a toothpick? I'm sorry - no matter how obsessed someone was about chewing on a toothpick, surely they could wait one minute without one until their friend returned.
The film features another sub plot involving the a military group who are also intent on stopping the deadly creatures. They are headed by the usually wonderful actor Morgan freeman, but his character in this film is hackneyed and corny, like one from a B-movie horror flick - which is exactly what this film feels like. It wasn't truly awful, there were some good moments, but overall it was a letdown.

what a GREAT idea !

I don't know what thes eother people are talking about. This dvd is just commercials strung together and some of the pop up videos aren't right. I got a free copy from my brother and it's not all that great. Just rent the real movies. I am surprised to see it for sale on amazon. I'm glad this was for free.

We were Wiggling

From the moment that the DVD started with "Doing a Dance" we fell in love with it. This is my favourite Christmas Wiggly DVD. I thought that it was neat how Greg, Anthony, Murray, and Jeff sang about Christmas in Australia and how much different it is there for them at Christmas, than it is here for us (we're burried in snow). The first time that my son saw the video for "And the World is One on a Christmas Morning" he asked me if we could go swimming Christmas day like the kids in the video, and I had to tell him that we couldn't, it would be more like going ice skating. After I explained that it was very warm in Australia at Christmas, and that it isn't here, he understood, and then asked if we could go to Australia to go swimming with the Wiggles.
The rest of the DVD is packed with energizing music that keeps my son and I Wiggling for hours. This is a must buy, if you like Christmas, and love the Wiggles. It will keep you Wiggling.

Wonderful American Film

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's so damn good that it's hard to believe is an American film. The script is so well written and the director approaches to a very controvertial theme with inteligence and with no sensationalism or judgement. I highly recommend this film to open-minded viewers, although the ending is not very satisfactory.

John Waters' Pecker is definitely worth seeing!

Pecker is an outstanding Waters' film. It's a hilariously funny send-up of the modern art "world" and an insightful look at the Baltimore scene. John's commentary track on the DVD is great and lets us take a peak into the witty and sometimes anarchic mind of Waters. Definitely 5+ stars!
