X-treme, X-citing, X-cellent

"XXX" is one of those movies you shouldn't take seriously at all, but just sit for the ride. So that means stiff board movie critics shouldn't waste anybody's time by bitching about how bad this movie is. It's just entertainment. Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) sporting his best Mr. Clean, has just been recruited by the National Security Agency and he has to stop a crazy man who wants to do something bad to Prague. Immoral man. A Russian agent (Asia Argento) foils Cage's plans. The stunts are out-of-this-world. I mean, I USED to ride motorcycles over rooftops while they were caving into fire. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who can do that. "Witches come." What a great line that was. Rob Cohen directed this jumbled insta-classic. "I live for this stuff!"

In a word..AWESOME!!

My husband and I loved this movie,it is Carpenter's best since "The Thing." Sure it's a little rough, but look at it like this. Your on the road all over the country, hunting down monsters every day, you'd be a little rough too, don't you think? We thought the characters were perfectly depicted, strung out and very rough around the edges. Considering the job, it was the only way to have them act. And it was a stroke of genius that Carpenter wrote them so realistically. I've also heard alot of people talking about the "love, hate relationship with the church." Well, if I were hunting for a really bad guy and the people I was working for ratted me out to him, I'd be a little upset too. Another mark in Carpenter's favor in the realism slot. As for the actors and their acting, it was all top notch as were the f/x. Woods was first rate as Jack Crowe, raised by the church to be it's Master Slayer (who didn't have a problem w/the church until someone from it set him up.) Baldwin was fine as the slayer with the small health problem(watch to find out what it is.) Lee was great as the hooker with the connection to Valek. And the guy who played Valek himself was also very convincing. As was the rest of this great cast. Bottom line, if you are a serious horror film fan that likes a good vampire movie, here you go. You can't go wrong with this movie, the only one better in the last 9 years was "Dracula 2000." My husband and I saw one on T.V. the other night called "Modern Vampires" all we can say about that is avoid it at all costs. Carpenter has done something with "Vampires" that has needed to be done for along time, he took the genre seriously and produced one heckuva great movie. It is not for the squeamish though as I said before the f/x are top of the line and very unflinching. If you are a serious vampire movie fan, see this by all means.

Two for the road

Revolutionary in its time but appearing somewhat dated now, "Easy Rider" was the ultimate road trip: two bikers on a cross-country ride from the west coast to Mardi Gras in New Orleans after scoring big in a drug deal. Produced and directed by, and starring Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda, and almost stolen by a then-unknown named Jack Nicholson playing a hippie lawyer, "Easy Rider" follows its two heroes across some of the most stunning scenery in the Southwest as they head towards Louisiana in search of "freedom", whatever that means. "Easy Rider" not only brings us two (or three, counting Nicholson) of society's dropouts, we also meet a community of hippies, some narrow-minded small-town lawmen, and some rednecks in Louisiana who seem to have a more-than-passing relationship to Neanderthals. We wonder if the film's perhaps unwitting message is that the search for meaningless "freedom" results in meaningless and wanton death and destruction. More than any film of its time, "Easy Rider" caught the mood of the late 1960s in America and the fear of the "establishment" for society's rebels. It may be of its own time, but its timeless rejection of mindless conformity echoes down to us.

A wacky comedy

Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels are two morons who drive out to Aspen to return a woman's suitcase filled with cash. The comedy never ends with the hot candy scene, the overdose of laxative scene and many others that'll make you howl with laughter.

My favorite movie! On dvd!

I've wondered for a while why it wasn't on dvd, maybe I just missed it? I always knew it needed to be on widescreen, and I was right! Not as feature packed as many dvds, but to a real fan like me, well worth it, getting the behind the scenes interviews was a real treat, the music video was great, this movie is a classic any romantic, especially one who loves both Tom Hanks, and Meg Ryan, has to love!

sadly overlooked, under appreciated by many.....

Questions of the morality of invading a foreign land and claiming it for God seem to be answered only by the viewer. Columbus dreams of finding land; of a conquest and adventure. He dreams of a new route to reveal treasures and paradise in distant lands. This movie chronicles the first two landmark voyages in a sweeping and unhurried film journey.
Had less time been spent on the cinematic qualities, more details could have been included. The slow pace almost lends itself to philosophical questioning; giving the viewer time to contemplate the sheer magnitude of the adventure. It is as if you are taking the journey yourself.
Beautiful lines about how power given so effortlessly can be easily taken away or, how we carry heaven and hell wherever we go, makes us all look deeper into our souls to find out what we ourselves are made of.
Columbus is often told he is a failure, but to himself he never is. Although he seems ill fated in keeping the peace, he somehow survives to see a new day. The contrast between the goodness of man and the evilness of a man's heart is portrayed in one blow when Moxica chooses evil over good. The result is disastrous and savage warfare breaks out, revealing man's animal nature. There are scenes of brutality I fast forwarded through. This is definitely not for children and should have been rated R for those aspects alone.
The scenes of sailing are lusciously filmed. There is some comedy at the beginning when you will laugh out loud if you are watching closely. The love between Columbus and his wife was hardly touched upon and could have been so much more dramatic, yet was very romantic. The chemistry between Columbus and the Queen is tantalizingly amusing. He knows how to charm a woman and earns the Queen's respect because he doesn't fear her power.
Gerard Depardieu is ideal as Columbus, his accent is mesmerizing, but do turn up the volume to hear what he is saying. He comes across as thoughtful and courageous although he has his moment of deceit before taking his first voyage in that he really is not sure how far away land will be. He not only takes his life into his own hands, but expects all who follow him to dream with him.
One can only gain more respect for Columbus as a man, yet less respect for ourselves and for our need to overthrow each other in a struggle for power. You will learn something about human nature, and about navigating the waters of life.
A poignant story that will arouse within you the desire to spread your own wings and fly to distant lands to conquer you own need to explore the world. You may not have the patience to watch this twice, but seeing this once guarantees you will never forget it.

Wow! What a great document about the RAMONES! Forget about that crappy ''Raw'' dvd. You must to have this DVD who show the RAMONES without compromise. The dark side... 4 individuals who were clearly instable but together formed one the greatest rock'n'roll band of all time. With great shows excerpts and very cool interviews, this DVD don't contain any filler like this awful ''Raw'' DVD. Watch this DVD and learn what's behind the premier punk band of all time. Truly amazing.

sales 101 or almost as real as life

this movie is the equivalent of a strong pill for experiencing condensed life--ever changing asymmetry of the relationships and players' power therein, strong and realistic dialogue, situations and characters on the edge.
great casting (some reservations for baldwin) with pacino and lemmon (in whatever order) at their best. pacino delivers a role that's already become typical of his--nonetheless fits the character very well. by this point in lemmon's career we see him developing in an extremely fine and nuanced character. the rest of the cast complements smoothly the roles of the first two.
the only exception one may take with this movie realism is around the thickly liberal approach to business (in recession anyway.) otherwise, as an unintended consequence, this movie is so well done that one may substitute it for what sales is (not.)
