X marks the Spot...

If you are looking to park your money on some DVDs, this is a "must have" set for all X-philes and also for people who want an induction to what the late 90's TV phenomena was all about.
Travel back 7 seasons to the roots of this cult series and see how it all started. Look at the first episode, where we are introduced to the basement office of 'Spooky' Mulder, and his redhead partner Agent Scully (with the awful hairdo at that time). Understand Mulder's obsession with the FBI X-Files, the paranormal, and his traumatize childhood when his sister was "abducted". Contrast that with Scully's hard-nose scientific approach, always looking for a physical, fact-based explanation of anything she sees. And lastly, see how the delicious banter between the two lead characters develop over time.
Watch it with no lights on in your room for maximum effect!

You cannot deprive an audience of this movie!

The studio that made this movie (Paramount I think) is commiting a crime by not releasing this fantastic movie by one of the greatest directors of all time on DVD or for that matter even VHS! Yesterday I was wondering which were the movies I wanted to buy, and Ace In the Hole came to me immediately but I was disappointed to see that the studios haven't released it on DVD or VHS. Please release this movie, it's Wilder's masterpiece. And while i'm at it somebody please get ED WOOD released on DVD.

Go for it! Much Better than the 2-Disc Special Edition!

The Director's Cut release completes with an unrated, extended cut of the film, in total about 132 minutes (10 min. more than the special edition). This DVD comes with 3 discs, most of them are same as the 2-disc special edition (feel free to read my review on Hellboy Two-Disc Special Edition), but this adds alot of extra brand new special features, all new director's commentary, production design, workshops, deleted scenes, etc. This edition details are roughly shown below:

[Disc 1]
- Director's Commentary: new commentary from Guillermo del Toro, exclusively for the Director's Cut DVD
- Composer's Commentary with isolated score
- Video Introduction to Disc 1 by Guillermo del Toro
- DVD ROM: Director's Notebook, Printable Script and expanded Script Supervisor's Book
- Eight Branching DVD Comics by Mike Mignola: A never-been-done DVD feature containing eight Branching DVD comics by Mike Mignola - an onscreen look at Hellboy comic books with all new expanded text from Guillermo del Toro
- Right Hand of Doom: Set Visits and Factoids
- Expanded Storyboards: picture-in-picture storyboard track plays simultaneously with the film
- Anamorphic Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1)

[Disc 2]
- Hellboy: The Seeds of Creation
- Four Animatics - computer-generated animated scene breakdowns. The next level in storyboarding. Director's use them to help visualize what some of the more complicated shots will look like.
- Five Board-A-Matics: side-by-side comparison of scenes with the animated storyboards
- Weblink: Hellboy merchandise
- Three deleted scenes with optional commentary
- Scene deconstruction: director Guillermo del Toro walks us through the evolution of a scene from his sketches to the storyboards to the finished scene
- Kroenen's Lair: four storyboard to film comparisons
- Maquette Rotations Gallery
- Poster Explorations for the Hellboy theatrical campaign
- Filmographies
- Previews

[Disc 3]
- Cast Video Commentary with Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor and Rupert Evans
- Production Workshop featurettes
- Q&A Archive: Comic Con 2002 featuring Guillermo del Toro, Ron Perlman and Mike Mignola
- A Quick Guide to Understanding Comics with Scott McCloud
- Video Introduction to Disc 3 by Ron Perlman
- Production Design Photo Gallery
- Mike Mignola Pre-Production Artwork
- Conceptual Art Galleries

Overall, it is a great movie with lots of extra freebies features. If you are the Hellboy comic fans, go for it! If you already own a copy of the 2-Disc Special Edition, you may not find this worth the money, but if you don't have a copy yet, this is a no-wrong choice!

*** Otto Yuen's DVD Special Rating for Hellboy (Director's Cut) ***

2. DVD Featurability: EXCELLENT

And then....

I didn't have very high expectations for this movie but thought it might be good for a few laughs. What a disappointment! The acting is unbelievably bad. The script is also incredibly bad. I was hoping that the movie would be funny but it was just annoying.

I remember seeing this film as a young kid, a great move and an amazing story. HEY STUDIO, GET THIS ON VIDEO! I think it was released at the early days of video, but cannot find any internet link about it. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Alan Arkin, {I'm working on getting him to star in my film}, who is a fantastic guy and the most amazing actor. This picture already has a built in audience for video, so WAKE UP studio and lets have it. If anyone has any new feedback about this picture, please Email me. JOHN

The best movie of the year. Hands down.

If you loved the TV series, you'll LOVE the movie! Takes place before the episode "Hard Luck Woman" (episode 23) In other words before peope started sattering in the show. A biological wepons teriest is attacking Mars around Halloween. It's up to Spike, Faye, Jet, Ed, and Ein to catch Vincent and get the 300,000 woolong bounty! Even the three old men have a large part in this. And they joke about Andy at the end ^_^ "Call me Moosashi!" *_* (they don't say that though) It's not really something for kinds under the age of ten. No nudity, some langiage, nothing extream though. The only reason I see it being R is because the attacks, and Vincent tries to rape Faye, but all he does is, rip at her shirt... Nothing major folks. So if you can see it in theaters DOO!!! GO SEE IT! ALSO BUY IT!! I bought it imported, and can't wait to buy the dub! ^__^

All ?Signs? Point to an Incredibly Scary Movie!

All I can say is wow. That was pretty much my reaction when I walked out of the theater. That was pretty much my reaction when I stopped shaking, which wasn't until 15 minutes after the end credits started to roll. My muscles are so sore from shaking for an hour and a half, I think I may have trouble getting to sleep tonight.
"Signs" stars Graham Hess (played by Mel Gibson), his brother, Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix of "Gladiator" fame), and Graham's two children, Morgan (Rory Culkin) and Bo (Abigail Breslin). Graham is a priest-turned-farmer, wallowing in the wake of his wife's death. But that is just one of the problems facing him when this movie starts. If you've seen previews of this film, you no doubt know that crop circles center heavily in the storyline. But never in a way that you would expect.
Now I will admit that about 30 minutes into the film, I sat in the theater thinking, "Where in the heck is this all leading to?" I was starting to think that this movie was going to be a major dud, and that I'd forked over [money] for disappointment. But that's when the movie slams on the gas pedal and doesn't slow down. This is the only movie - and I mean, the ONLY movie - that has made my body shake for an hour and a half. The tension and dread-like feeling of "What's going to happen next?" is absolutely excruciating. M. Night Shyamalan (who wrote, directed, produced, AND acted in this movie) is clearly taking over as the King of Suspense when it comes to thriller-type movies. He knows just when to hit you full-force in the face with something; he knows when to hint at something; and he's very good at making you think one thing is going to happen when something else really does.
I will not go much further into this film. I don't want to give away any plot points. But, my gosh, you cannot go wrong with this film. If you liked such great movies such as "The Others" and "Sixth Sense," this movie will be right up your haunted alley. If you are looking for a movie where the power of suggestion is more frightening than what you might actually see, this movie is for you (I could write an entire review just based on that in and of itself).
Go see this movie. It has everything you want in a classic, edge-of-your-seat, scary movie. It made this reviewer coward and shake for an hour and a half, and that NEVER happens to me. Heck, it made the entire theater audience do that!
