X files 1-9

The X Files is truly an exceptional series but i cannot grasp the nonsense of the pricing structure here either. It's very unusual for "us" in the UK to get a better deal on price but this set will be available shortly for ?160 which is circa $340 and with free postage too.

It's almost like they don't want you to buy it. more curious though is that you can pick up season 5 or 6 for ?18 but the others can still sell over here for up to ?80 - you really do have to shop around these days!

Keep on Waxin'

What a goofy movie. And the director's commentary is even funnier. A bunch of hairless zombies on motorcycles turn a small town into sex-crazed zombies?! I don't know if I've ever seen anything quite so ... original. I got a chance to see it in a theatre awhile back and thought it was funny then, but a buddy of mine who worked on the post production sound let me watch the DVD and listen to the commentary - it should be required listening for any filmmaker. Okay, and the girls are kinda cute in this movie too (especially some of the topless ones). Drags a little here and there, but...I liked it!

Our Very Favorite Video!

In our family's opinion, this is the best VeggieTales Video - and we love them all! VeggieTales is the best thing to happen to kid's entertainment [and adult entertainment!] ever. Our whole family enjoys watching these videos over and over, and we know the songs by heart - toddler and adults alike! VeggieTales truly has something for every age group and I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy these videos [even my non-Christian family members can't help but enjoy them!].
Rack, Shack, and Benny is the best in our opinion - even though they are all awesome. The music in this one is GREAT [all the songs stick in your brain and make you want to sing out loud]. We also like the characters in this one. As the mom of a small daughter, I really like the fact that Laura the Carrot [the only real recurring female character in the whole series] gets to do something brave to try to save Rack, Shack, and Benny. This a great tale and is redone marvelously in this video! I highly recommend this one to everyone!

The Best Nightmares You'll Ever See

The Outer Limits was one of my favorite shows as a kid- so receiving this boxed set in the mail yesterday was a real thrill. I was wondering beforehand if the anticipation I had experienced would be worth the wait. Well, I was not disappointed! As I sat down to watch the opening episode, I got goose bumps all over again as I saw the the blank screen give way to the waves and test pattern and buzzing frequency sound. THE VOICE announced (with great authority), that "We will control all that you see and hear!" The music soundtrack was just as impressive and forbidding as I remember it being in 1963. The glorious black and white picture came through with crystal clarity. I then sat back and enjoyed a tale well told. I would highly recommend this set to anyone who enjoys top-notch TV entertainment-as well as anyone who is considering buying the "new" Outer Limits shows on disc. Check out this set FIRST, so you can see how sci-fi should really be done (at least on the small screen). You will not be disappointed! This boxed set now sits in the RESERVED section of my DVD shelf- that area which is set apart for shows such as "The Prisoner", certain Hitchcock movies, and Criterion Collection films.Turn on the TV, turn out the lights, and enjoy the awe, the spectacle, and the mystery of...... the OUTER LIMITS!

One of the top three horror movies of the last two decades!

House of 1000 Corpses is an instant classic - but don't listen to me, go experience it yourself. Without giving too much away, the film is a true horror film that is made for horror fans and horror fans alone. The plot is basic, but the dialogue itself is great. The characters are what make this movie... Captain Spaulding and the grandpa taking the cake. Truly funny and memorable characters. And don't forget Dr. Satan and his crew - great, great horror creations, the whole lot! There's a lot of people talking about how this movie didn't live up to the hype... well, whatever their standards are, they're quite unrealistic. This once again is an instant classic and will still be talked about decades from now! I'm not the biggest fan of his music, but hopefully Zombie will continue this director thing - his first attempt was brilliant!

Batman Returns - movie DVD cover picture
"The liberation of Gotham has begun!"

Batman Returns is as great as Tim Burton's original blockbuster and 1000 times better than ANYTHING Schumacher could cough up.
Burton knows how to choose good actors for his awesome characters. Keaton is a phenomanal Batman with the right portrayal of darkness as his character is portrayed in the comic.
Danny Devito and Michelle Pfeifer are EXCELLENT. They are the only villain team-up which made sense unlike the garbage in Schumacher's festivals of stupidity. Devito does such a great Penguin, its hard to imagine your watching Devito at all. He's a totally different person in this film much like Jack Nicholson was with The Joker in Batman.
To the moron who thinks Burton would kick himself after seeing the Batman animated series, what do you think the series was based on? Had Burton not done this movie or Batman in 1989 you wouldnt have Batman The Animated Series at all. Why do you think the series is dark, the music is by Danny Elfman, and some characters are like their movie counterparts such as Penguin and Catwoman.Tim Burton's work is responsible for the animated series pal.
All in all, an EXCELLENT movie with enough humor, action, and plot that makes this stand wayyyyyy above either of Schumacher's Bat-films that concentrate on special fx and not plot and character like this film.
TRUE Batman fans will appreciate Tim Burton's work for the great characters and writing.

Unusually Thought-Provoking

Urbania requires a great deal of thought from a viewer, and for this, as much as any reason, it is definitely not a film that I would proclaim to be a popular favorite. Nevertheless, it is an extremely worthwhile film, and repays the viewer's investment. This is not a light-hearted, "fun" film. It is demanding. It is emotionally grueling. It is a bit disturbing. And it is though-provoking. This is not a film for those who like neat and tidy happy endings.
On the surface, the premise of silly Urban Legends seems completely at odds with the main plot. The small and often incomplete side references to many well-known and oft-repeated Urban Folk Tales seem simply "dropped in" to the film. But as the main story unfolds, the purpose of these slight diversions becomes more comprehensible (though I will not claim it to be "obvious.")
The horrific, improbable, and nervously funny content of Urban Legends is a foil for the horrific, all too probable, and tragic experience of the protaganist, Charlie. As the film unfolds, the viewer must ask "just what is real? What is believable? How can I tell?" In "Urbania", the border between the real and the imagined is not so precise as one might hope it to be.
Because "Urbania" depicts scenes from a gay couple's relationship, plainly but by no means pornographically, and because the crisis that befalls the gay couple is key, some find this to be a gay agenda film (I would suppose that by this standard 1990's "Ghost" would have to be classified as an agenda film!) I found that the characters' sexuality was natural and necessary to the film's story, but was neither sensational nor affected. Still, realistic depictions of gay male sexuality are not for everyone, however naturally they fall in the plot. It is notable that I have not yet encountered a review that complains of the graphic depictions of violence in the film, and these were far more upsetting to me than any sexual situation. The violence is not gratuitous, but it is graphic.
I was well impressed with the acting. The minor players in the Urban Legend side lines were, of course, pure stereotype, and they played it to the hilt. The wide-ranging main characters were strikingly well-cast.
Dan Futterman delivers an outstanding performance in a notably challenging role. The supporting cast is remarkable as well: Alan Cumming is wonderful as Brett. Lothaire Bluteau, in a very small part, adds surprising depth. Matt Keeslar, in the role of the idealized Chris, plays his part with a deft touch. Sam Ball's Dean is chilling yet, unexpectedly, evokes compassion. I think this is one of the best "sleepers" I have ever watched, and I am quite pleased to have made the purchase.

Very surprising

I saw this movie by accident - it was a late show on a small-fry TV station which I flipped onto and stayed when I saw an ad for a film in which James Belushi dressed up as Elvis.
I'm glad I stayed - this is one of the most fun, clever and enjoyable films I've seen in a long time. Belushi is, frankly, brilliant (I had no idea he could actually ACT until I saw this movie) and Kylie Travis as "Our hero" who keeps trying to rectify a situation which has gone woefully wrong, making it worse by orders of magnitude each time is wonderful as well.
Well recommeded - buy it. I can't wait for my copy to arrive.
