Better than The Matrix

Cronenberg made the thinking person's Matrix with this film. Gotta love the fact that for less money one can make a better movie. This majestic film toys with normal expectations and moves you into its bizarre and glorious dimensions with subtle, powerful techniques.
The CNS mechanic is reason enough to love this film! Matrix doesn't come close.

Postmodernism at it's best.

Sorry, the viewer from the Farmers Market, but you miss the point taking that movie at the face value.
That film is a real miracle, but for the different reasons. It's the essence of postmodernism, all the happenings are brought to the surface by the undercurrents that are visible only to these in the know.
Alan Rudolf mocks the Paris of Hemingway's "The Movable Feast" and F.Scott Fitzjerald brilliantly, he takes on all the components of the mythology and all the known characters are the subject of a loving parody.
I've never thought that anyone can take seriously the film's Hemingway, the blubbering drunk, who regals us with his pseudo-meaningful phrases at the well-appointed intervals.
That's the film for these who flinch from the words "Parisian charm" and "the life of boheme", but are very happy to see all that revisited by the culturally aware, inventive and intelligent director.

Smooth as Velvet

Don Williams' voice is still just as smooth as velvet and his performance was quality all the way. We love to listen to his songs and music but my husband and I did miss his original band. (This band ain't bad, however!) It's like anything else, when you hear something for the first time, anything that changes afterwards catches your attention. If this is Don's first live performance captured on CD (we haven't found any others to date) then he definitely needs to do more. This was such a pleasant surprise and we enjoyed sitting back, relaxing, and listening to his tunes. You can't help but tap your feet and sing along... We recommend this CD for all Don Williams fans.

Nobody puts Baby in the corner.

80s
Dancing
Patrick Swayze (in tights)
Baby's in the Corner
Abortion
Lake Dancing

Who wouldn't think this was one of the best movies EVER. Even as a very masculine male I find this film very entertaining. It represents a time when films could be based completely on dancing and music without the modern day clich?s. This film represents a time when love could blossom in the summer, and also the unending (yet creative) story of a daughter who grows to be a woman ... through dance.

A true "sleeper"

This movie was never hyped up or promoted very well. In fact, I bought my copy from a "dump bin" several years back.

Do not be mislead. This is a true sleeper with fine performances from Donald Sutherland and Stephan Rea. Based on a true story of a serial killer in Russia.

Even at it's bargain price, it has a permanent place in my collection of crime movie favorites.

a slight obsession

Do you ever notice how a Simpsons fan is more of a Simpsons obsessive? I'm not saying this is wrong. Lord knows I'm one. It's just the effect the show has on some people. Midnight Madness does the same thing. For reasons too large to fully understand, everyone that I know that has seen this film has fallen in love with it. This movie, totally 80s totally stereotyping, totally perfect in every way, WILL become one of your favourite films. You will quote it. You will watch it over and over. You will find yourself drawn to others who have seen it. Most of all you might get a chance to see Venus's two moons.

This WILL tear your heart.

Just finished watching this. I dont even know what to think...write.. This is probably one of the best animation movies ever made. Never thought it would make me cry. What is sad is that the reality of this movie still exists. It doesnt matter if its 1945 or 2003 - War brings destruction and suffering anywhere, anytime. Amazing potrayal of human suffering in these animated characters. My hats off especially to the artist who sketched Setsuko (the sister).

Bette Rocks!

This film is a fictionalised account of Jacqueline Susann's life and her drive to be recognized as "somebody".The flamboyant costumes and colourful settings are very realistic and bring back memories of the late 60s and early 70s. The cast does a great job, & Burt Bacharach's score shines...

In Shining Armor

"A Knight's Tale" is among the better films to come out in 2001, and certainly the highlight of the year's summer lineup. It is an irreverent take on Medeival jousting (and the Canterbury Tales) that is at once hilarious and inspirational. I have never seen a film that can juggle Python-esque humor and Gladiator-esque emotion so well - nor have I seen a film that has even attempted it, let alone met with success!
Heath Ledger plays William Thatcher, a churl who disguises himself that he might enter the jousting championships and "change his stars" (for only those of noble birth are permitted to compete). He is joined by a wonderful cast of characters, including "Jeff" Chaucer, his "squires," and a female blacksmith. Other principle characters include William's noble love interest and the wicked Count who is his rival for her affections. Rarely does a film offer so many colorful players.
Purists, of course, will not care much for a Knight's Tale given its incorporation of classic rock-and-roll music, but to everyone else, it will most likely be a welcome addition. Given the tone of the film, it does not seem at all out of place - not even when things take a turn for the dramatic.
A Knight's Tale is a wonderful, fun-filled two hours of viewing, and it's as simple as that.
