Wonderful Fantasy Love Film!

This film is one of the most original portrayals of Romeo and Juliet I have ever seen. It is not boring if you like leprachauns and fairies especially because them come together and unite in this great movie! I love all the scenery it provides of Ireland. Though the story could've been better with a better story with the humans, It still played an interesting twist in the story. Watch it with your sweetheart! *****/Definite Five Stars!

The Patriot

"The Patriot" is a fine action/adventure drama about a South Carolina farmer in 1776 (Mel Gibson) who reluctantly becomes involved in the American Revolution. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich who gave us "Independence Day", "Stargate" and "Godzilla". Those films were popcorn events whose only purpose was to entertain audiences in a loud fashion. Love them or hate them, those films succeeded in that respect. "The Patriot" is produced with the same flair as Emmerich's previous efforts, but this film succeeds remarkably where those films could not. This film is an exciting popcorn event film written and acted expertly. "The Patriot" may be Hollywood's first Oscar worthy popcorn film.
The heart of the film is Mel Gibson's performance as Benjamin Martin. A hero of the French/Indian War, Martin is now a content farmer overseeing his brood of seven children. His oldest son; Gabriel (Heath Ledger) signs on to fight the British agianst his father's wishes and before long Martin himself is fighting along with Gabriel. While Gabriel fights for freedom, Martin's quest is far more dark and more personal as he tries to both protect his son in the war and seek revenge against a blood thirsty Redcoat played by Jason Issacs.
This film has all the aspects of a great summer event blockbuster. It has spectacular action sequences, villians and noble heroes, a strong supporting cast, a sweet romance and good hearted humor. It is also the first solid film by Roland Emmerich. He proves with the right screenwriter, in this case "Saving Private Ryan"'s Robert Rodat, that he can be a very effective filmmaker.

Dark City is a genuine fantasy classic.

I saw this film during its somewhat belated release in Turkey in November and was instantly struck by its great look and ideas. It's such a shame that such an elaborate sci-fi work is so much overlooked while other less successful films are given so much hype! The way its story was created as a puzzle which fully gave itself away only during the final 10 minutes was in my opinion the most important factor in its complete financial failure. It's a genuine fantasy classic whose real value will only be realized in the years to come. The DVD version which I bought 3 months ago is a fine edition with many extra features, the most important of which is the running commentary by the director and the key crew members. That said, currently owning only a Dolby Surround system, I found the sound mix completely disappointing, particularly in comparison to the many titles by various distributors currently available in Turkey. And finally, where is the isolated audio track mentioned in the review?

Fits Very Well With Lynch's Current Mulholland Drive

I never saw the television show of this same name and, therefore, never was able to compare the two. This is a very dark, dream saturated film, much like Lynch's present day "Mulholland Drive." You will discover the dark secrets in this town and one family just as you do in that film, unfolding in non-linear fragments, like a dream, until the reoccurring parts suddenly gel together in your head. He's working with the same big themes as he does in Mulholland Drive, with the added fillip & punch of incest, presented in the most imaginative way possible. This is an absolutely brilliant film and is by no means inferior to "Mulholland Drive." It is always interesting to me that no matter what year or decade Lynch films in, he always manages to find one actor who strongly reminds you of him.

this film's got cajones!

oasis is a brutal story about the gorgeous, funny, ugly love between a constantly sniffling, irrepressible ADHD man and a barely functional food-loving woman trapped in a body wracked by cerebral palsy. both are subtlety victimized by their strangely conflicted "respectable" families and dismissed as unacceptable by the korean society that attempts to minimize and contain them. lest the film slide into the claptrap of the formulaic, we quickly discover that not even the protagonists are portrayed as devoid of critical flaws.

revealing itself to be a hopeful but honest study of life, the film begins to look familiar as the clever storyline unfolds; peppered with moments of hilarity, boredom, poignancy, and disgust, it is a bravely unflinching portrait of none other than our gorgeous, funny, ugly, hopelessly human selves.

Boring reviews

It is quite boring to read reviews speaking about "blasphemy", "insult to Homer" and so on. First of all, the movie is a (clever) retelling of the whole myth. It is based not only on the Iliad, but also on other ancient sources. Besides, very little of the plot is really invented by the screenwriter. In the contrary, Benioff knows very well that some versions of the myth spoke about a Trojan priestess raped by Agamemnon, about Andromache escaping with Astyanax (who became the ancestor of the French royal dynasty), and so on.
And please: we accept suggestions, but please don't ORDER us which movies we have either to see or not to see. This is annoying.
I saw rhe movie at least six times and I think it is really good, a well balanced mix of culture and fun. But I think that people are free to decide on their own.

I love thriller movies and I love Julia Roberts movies that she'sin. I liked the boyfriend next door in this movie and the part that he takes her to the university's auditorium where she changes in all those costumes plus then she dances with him to the old rock n roll music. Why don't she find a guy like him, or is he married in real life. Julia Roberts is such a marvelous actress that I just enjoy seeing her around and making new movies. Eric Brockevich was also real good, she played a excellent part. Pretty Woman will always be the best for me. Take care Julia and keep up the good work. God Bless you, Carol

"It's like coming to the gym-like having sex and coming..."

This is taken from Arnold's words of wisdom part. Gotta love the accent and deep voice. Burning muscle, flexing, mental preparation and agonizing pain(groan). This movie shows that nothing comes easy in life and that hard work and perseverance is the key to success.-AMAZING motivator. It's also nicer to look at compared to today's grossed out Pro's. If you think your workout's hard, try surviving this one.Don't miss out on this classic.

One of Kubrik's first, and more relevant than ever

This is one of Kubrik's first films. He is still developing, but we can see his trademakrs already: the ultra-realistic scenography and photography, minimalistic dialogue, and the dreamlike sequence as the camera follows Kirk Douglas in the trench.
The film takes place during the first world war. A French general has ordered an attack on a German fortress. Due to ridicilously bad planning the attack ends in a dismal failure. To protect his reputation the general orders a military tribunal where randomly selected soldiers are made into scapegoats and sentenced to death.
Does it not sound familiar? Who can believe that simple private soldiers commited all the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib, without their superiors knowing, or even ordering the abuse? We should live in a time where media coverage would prevent such blatant miscarriage of justice.
Again, reality is worse than we can imagine.
