X-cellent watch and worth the wait

WOW! I really loved this movie! I had been disappointed by other live-action and animated movies and shows in the past that portrayed other comic book heroes and failed miserably (except for Fox's X-Men cartoon which featured our favorite Cajun and other special guests). However, this one definitely hits the mark, and I can't wait for the sequel. I hope that the complete uncut version will make its way to DVD.
By the way, the opening of the movie left me speechless. I could hardly breathe. If I didn't believe I was going to have a wonderful 1.5 hours ahead of me, I was convinced by the end of the first sequence.

The Goonies - movie DVD cover picture

Obviously the woman from Japan who rated this a less than one star doesn't realize the effect this movie had on kids that grew up around the time it came out. For our generation, this is like sushi is to Japan. You can't take the Goonies away. Sure if I saw this as an adult for the first time I probably wouldn't like it, but considering this was a movie I grew up with and have enjoyed since childhood, it will always remain a 5 star on my list. I bought the DVD so I could watch it again and again. This poor lady's child who hated the movie will grow up very sheltered and when the child hits the streets of Tokyo as a teen and has no clue about anything in life and is a loner, it will be because of things like this where this woman won't let her child hear some mild language when she's probably cussing him out at home every day. DON'T MESS WITH THE GOONIES!

The Psycho Nanny From Hell!!!

This dvd is very well remastered with extra features as well. It includes the original theatrical trailor, closed caption and an additional french language option. The actors in this film do a marvelous job, with ernie hudson as solomon as the true hero in my opinion. He not only plays his role excellently but he also truly has the most love for the family when clare bartell's husband seems to play a rather wimpy man who fails to protect his own family and ironicially is the slowest at grasping the facts of the real danger. In any case this movie is very exciting, with rebecca de mornay as the perfect vengful nanny.

This movie is so frantic. One of the strange things is the fact that Bob and Bing keep letting you know it's a movie. Bob even wins an Oscar. The weirdest things happen, too. Bob and Bing get married (to each other), they hunt for treasure, and they both try to win Dorothy. By the way, great Jane Russell cameo at the end!

Visually Stunning

Let me preface this by saying that I am not the most religious person out there. I actually went with the intention of being thoroughly disappointed and wanting my money back. HOWEVER, this is an artistic masterpiece. Regardless of your religious preferences, you should see this movie. Gibson relates the 12 hours leading to the death of Christ in a series of flashbacks, beatings, and stunning cinematography. His choice of doing this movie in Latin and Aramaic was correct; it would not be nearly as powerful if performed in English. The lead actor has little match with the intensity that his eyes convey. Gibson also adds nuances and flourishes to the story (the Satan character and the demons that hound Judas) that add so much to this movie.
A lot has been written concerning the anti-semitism this movie conveys, and I'd strongly recommend that you see the movie and reserve your opinions on that until you've actually seen the movie. I don't really blame the Jews for the crucifiction, and I think Gibson utilizes the mob as a tool of Satan, and that really shows in the movie. Also, the gore is definitely present, and you should not see this if you have a weak stomach. However, it is dispersed throughout the movie, and after that first horrible whipping, you don't notice it as much. I definitely think that everyone should see this once. I don't think it has much repeat viewing value, as I was thoroughly impressed with it, but like a Schindler's List, have no desire to see it again.
But definitely worth the price of admission. Definitely.

Light-hearted and Uplifting!

This is a very positive movie. It shows how someone who thought she really didn't have a chance in the corporate world, made it with just good common sense. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be uplifted and encouraged.

The Glass Slipper

Amen to all the five-star reviews before me. This movie is magical, and Drew Barrymore's performance is simply luminous. The only thing I would like to add to the previous rave reviews is that the feminist subtext mentioned previously is deftly entwined in the love story, and not at all heavy-handed (as in, say, Mulan). In short, you wind up falling in love with Danielle for the same spirited qualities that the prince does. It would also be a mistake to narrowly categorize this as a children's movie--it works perfectly well as a romance for adults, and I personally think Ms. Barrymore's performance is Oscar-quality.

Wonderfully enjoyable. Mifune is the king of cool.

Not much to add to those who praise YOJIMBO. Action, humor, suspense, and of course, the universal human theme that Kurosawa incorporated into most of his films, YOJIMBO has it all. This is NOT a dark film, a la Leone's FISTFULL OF DOLLARS and Hill's LAST MAN STANDING. Sorry to sound harsh, but those two films are amateurish and childish by comparison. My favorite YOJIMBO moments "borrowed" by Western filmmakers: Mifune's squint when first recognizing the mallet-wielding giant (as seen in every Eastwood performance since), and the arm-severing of the tatooed man with the "cute face" (the lightsaber/cantina scene in STAR WARS). There are oh so many more. Enjoy discovering your own. Of course, Kurosawa himself borrows the entire basic storyline from Hammett's "Red Harvest". After some slightly-cropped opening credits (taken from another source), the rest of the picture is perfectly presented."Hehe, I'm onto you. You only pretend to be a bad man." What a classic.

Batman Beyond goes beyond animation standards

The 1990's haven't been filled with the best of cartoons. But when Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett and many others collaborated on Batman: The Animated Series, little did they know that they would have a hit on their hands. The spin-off series Batman Beyond has got it all; action, drama, teen romance, humour, and fantastic, sharp dialogue. This futuristic Batman can easily appeal to both children and adults. Kids will get a kick out of the many fighting scenes, but adults and teens will not only enjoy the action, but real character development that seems to be lacking in most animation today. There's very little of that superhero or supervillain banter that you also see these days in cartoons. All the villains have their reasons for their actions and you actually feel sympathetic towards them at times. The animation itself is wonderful for a TV series and is better than most Japanese cartoons (simply because there's no still frames, and repeated frames or animation). The animated movie can only get better with the return of the classic criminal Joker, who is maniacally voiced by Mark Hamill (a.k.a. Luke Skywalker of the Star Wars films). All in all, anyone can enjoy the series and the same should hold true for the animated movie.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (25th Anniversary Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most..interesting peices of art in our time. When I first saw this movie..I was pretty young, and I was shocked at what I was watching. It was..dirty. What this movie/musical is about is this couple of a small town decide to get married and they want to go see and tell the news to the professor they had togeather, but along the way they get stuck and they have to go to this dark gloomy castle where they find out a party is being held. You get to meet these very unique charaters that are from outerspace and one sweet transvestite who creats a extreamly hott creature. Whenever this musical is plaied in theaters people dress up as the charaters and sing and dance along. People with open minds should deffently see this movie. Some great and random music is in the timewarp which you won't beable to stop dancing to for a while.
