The Best TV Show Ever!!

Out of all of the TV shows that I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot,) this is defiantly the best show ever!! There are so many reasons why I choose this show over all of the others. One of them is because of their superb cast choices. The casting is excellent because all of the actors perform well on their own, but together they create something magical. I love Jennifer and Michael and think that their characters are so cool. I would love to someday have their jobs. I watch this show every Sunday on ABC at 9 and am disappointed when it ends. I wish they aired episodes more often. But once the DVD comes out I can watch them as often as I like. You should defiantly buy this DVD if you like action packed shows and intense drama sequences.

The Straight Story - movie DVD cover picture
One of the Best of 99

Richard Farnsworth, and his tallent seemed to walk hand in hand, because he was so naturally gifted on screen. From Anne of Green Gables, to The Natural, and even Into the Night, Farnsworth has always done a sure-fire method of humble acting. His gifts, even while under physical pain, were just as evident in the Straight Story.
The 73 year old, cigar loving, veteran, Alvin Straight finds out that his brother is sick, and must go on a journey of forgiveness. He and his brother have resentment in their past and have avoided one another for decades because of a simple argument. Sissy Spasek plays his loving and mentally handicapped daughter. This is one of her best performances (next to "A place for Annie").
The mode of transport? An old John Deere lawn mower. Along the way he encounters many people and touches all of their lives. Most memorably the life of a teenage runaway, who is afraid to tell her parents that she is pregnant.
There is one scene that closely reminds me of the "Carl tells his Past" portion in the opening of Sling Blade. It is truly haunting as Straight tells one of his new found friends (also a veteran - Straight tells him he could see it in his eyes) about a memory from the war.
The ending of the Straight Story is one of the most rewarding endings you will ever see. It is a simple moment of true emotions and is everything it should be. ~s.a.o.s.~

Jason Fat Buds Mews is Back

The original stoner Duo is back... No I am not talking about Cheech and Chong... I mean Jay and Silent Bob AKA Jason Fat Buds Mews and Kevein Smith. The glue that holds the first four movies together is back with avengence in their own movie showing off what they do best. View Askews 5th atempt at a movie is their funnitest second only to Mallrats which is the greatest movie ever thanks to the performance of Jason Lee. He makes not one but two Camieos in this film making it all the more exciting. Jay and Silent Bob rock for the Kevin Smith fans and even for those who are new to his Genious.

This world is not this world

This is a classic fools tale and while this will seem strange it is best viewed before or after seeing "Eyes Wide Shut" which is also a fools tale and full of the same warmth, depth and fear.

They are both full of archetypes rather than full charactors because that's all they need. EVen the protagnist is more the "idea" of who he is than the thing.

I always find I am reviewing things that have been covered pretty rhoroughly. It suffices to say, these movies are under watched and under appreciated. They are a kind of erotica where the actual sex is the least necassary thing in them.

sound tracks

This movie has got to be the greatest, most romantic story ever made! Gone with the wind can't hold a candle to it or any other movie can't ether! Now why don't they sale the sound track for it. I would buy it in a hart beat! All movies should have a sound track for sale, regardless of how bad or good it is because some bad movies have good sound tracks too.

Worth watching again and again

This film is practically flawless. Every actor is superb and plays their role to the hilt. To see Macon interact with Muriel's little boy is worth it all. But the near-the-end camera shot when Macon's smiling face takes up the entire screen provides the perfect ending. If you've ever felt like Macon, this film is inspirational.

The Greatest Science Fiction Film Since Blade Runner

Steven Spielberg, here rebounding from the admirable failure of A.I., give us a cinematic science fiction film noir masterpiece with Minority Report. In all its aspects - story, plot, atmosphere, acting and characters, eerily prescient futuristic setting, and novel adaptation - this is quite simply the finest science fiction film released since Blade Runner. As a huge fan of Philip K. Dick's work - I didn't see this movie because of the star power of Spielberg or Cruise, but because it is a Dick adaptation - I was delighted with the feel and atmosphere of this movie. Unlike most science fiction films, this one does not overdo the future element - mixing radical new transportation methods, all manner of new computers and effects, and 20th century housing - it presents a future world that is entirely believable, and eerily plausible. The Dick story this is based on is a mere 30 pages or so - obviously, it would have to be expanded. I was glad to see that all expansions of the plot were logical extensions - unlike in the recent and very disappointing, The Time Machine, in which H.G. Wells's masterful short story was reduced to the level of Hollywood cheese. Spielberg, obviously a fan of the idiosyncratic author, inserts many "PhiDickian" moments into the film. From the retinal scans to the use of drugs - elements present in almost all of Dick's works - are worked skillfully and logically into the film, as are other moments that would be right at home in any work of Dick's: Anderton's (Cruise) bizzare meeting with "the creator of Pre-Crime" in her greenhouse, the optical surgeon's runny nose and subsequent eye-cathing (pardon the pun) operation, not to mention the generally dark, dreary atmosphere of the film (very similar to Blade Runner in this respect.) This film is much darker than I imagine most people will be expecting. At nearly two and a half hours in length, Spielberg has indeed given us a masterpiece. The film is very well-directed, and extraordinarily well-written. It was necessary to expand the original Dick story quite a bit in order to get it to movie length, and I am very happy to report (as is indeed the minority with Hollywood movie adaptation these days) that it is all done in a logical, respectful, fitting, and, indeed, very Dick-ian way. The shots and level of lighting used througout the film are masterful and entirely appropriate. It is also very well-choreographed: one virtuoso scene shows Anderton and Agatha (the pre-cog) being pursued by the Pre-Crimers through a mall, with her arranging their moves, predicting what will happen right before it does. This scene is very well done (as are several similar ones), and are very witty, without ever resorting to Hollywood cliche. The film is very well-done and believable throughout, almost entirely devoid (as is indeed very rare) of cornball scenes and leaps of logic - the cops flying around on jetpacks being the only scene that might raise a questioning eyebrow. I also applaud this film for being both very suspenseful and interesting, without forasking intelligence and provocativeness. Although the movie features its fair share of action, there is also a lot of dialogue, and the movie's overall IQ (so to speak) is very high - certainly far, far above 99% of the trash that hits theateres nowadays. It's also very well-acted, and the cast was well-chosen. I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but he performs his role here admirably well: he's the best in all of Hollywood of displaying that look of utter astonishment and confusion, and his winning smile is put on in all the best spots. The other actros were well-chosen as well, and all perform admirably. Quite simply put, a masterful science fiction film that deserves all the success it can get.
