X-Men: Great Flick

Like most I was skeptical about how good this movie was going to be. After seeing such fare as Superman IV, Captain America, or Batman & Robin (shudder), I was probably not alone in this feeling. After seeing the movie, my opinion changed greatly. Nine times out of ten, a movie adapted from a comic book will be almost painful to watch. This flick, however, will eventually enter the Halls of Great Comic Adaptions, alongside The first Superman (1979) and Batman (1989) movies.
If you do not watch this movie, you are only depriving yourself of a great movie experience.

I was born in the wrong time!

I am a total "Wicked" junkie and thought the sun rose and set on Idina Menzel but I am now thinking I was born in the WRONG AGE! My parents took me to this film and I was totally against seeing it as I thought it was too corny for words but now I just SO INSPIRED. Part of me was way depressed after as I thought I had missed the greatest time in history, but now I am inspired to learn all I can. Elaine Stitch?! Ohmygod! How cool is SHE? I have now seen "At Liberty" (same director, Rick McKay?) like three times, too.

I have never sat on the edge of my seat for two hours like this. At the end I was crying my eyes out and then the AMAZING credits started with people singing and I found myself laughing with tears running down at the same time. These STARS are unbelievable.

This movie also makes me mad. Mad that it costs like $70 for cheap seats and $100 for top seats for "Wicked" or "Hairspray" and this movies talks about how 50 years ago cheap seats in the broadway theater were cheaper than going to the movies. How did THAT happen? I mean it is sinful.

What was totally cool is that everybody -- and I mean strangers -- were talking to each other in the lobby of the theater after. It was like we had all seen something magical. I had no idea until I read this other review (sour grapes, me thinks) that the director was singing the title song. I don't know how we would know, But, I am now even MORE impressed! I mean the singing was great. But, I didn't pay that much attention to it. But, I DID pay enough attention to the fact that he was a one-man-movie studio and made the whole movie himself. And he sang the title song too?! Whoa! You GO dude!

Only one request: PLEASE put IDINA MENZEL in the sequel! THANX!!!!

We love Scooby

My husband and I took our 2 year old to the theater, and it was packed as it was father's day. My 2 year old is obsessed with Scooby, and she loved the movie, I think almost all the kids in the theater that day did, I've never seen so many little kids glued to a movie like that, if your child loves Scooby Doo then they would probably like the movie. It has kind of a weird ending, but we'll see what the sequel turns out to be.

Madonna - Queen of Videos

Yes, I miss the sorely deleted videos in this collection: "Erotica" (which I think is one of her best, especially the last few syllables in the song when she exerts "Eroti---CA" while coyly tweetering the whip), "You'll See", "Deeper and Deeper" (that opening with her in the Mercedes is classic and very LA) and even "I'll Remember" (yeah, it was a movie tie-in, but what do you think "Beautiful Stranger" is?). But one needs to remember the likewise forgotten cuts from "Immaculate Collection": "Gambler" "Into the Groove" "Justify My Love" Oh well. Regardless, this collection is a testament to Madonna's prowess and uncanny aptitude in making some of our generation's most unforgettable music videos. Her best video here are (in order): Rain, Bad Girl, Frozen, and Drowned World/Substitute for Love. Forget what Warner blasphemed here but celebrate the artist behind these videos!

It's an Abomination Before God and Man! But I Love It!

Hilarious! It's great to watch this on video - you can TELL where the 3-D scares of the theatrical presentation were supposed to be, which makes it all the more humorous. Some of the worst special effects I've ever seen in a movie (and I've seen a LOT of movies). A travesty! Highly Recommended!

"Try prayin' to father, son, but holy ghost I miss my sanity

I first heard Saul Williams on the "Lyricist Lounge" compilation doing "Ohm", and I was instantly blown away. He projects more then just the mood of his pieces, he projects his soul. In Slam, he delivers a superb performance as Ray, a weed dealer who is trying to make it work out. Throughout the movie he turns to his poetry as an outlet of his anger at the system, the world and god. It is filmed in a documentary style which gives a feel to the film that makes it seem like it is almost real. The acting also has an improvisational element to it that enhances the reality. For anyone who writes or just enjoys listening to poetry, definitely check out this film.

¡buenisima!

Brilliant!

The appeal of this show seems to me, in part, by the fact that there is a little bit of Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte in all of us. When Im feeling self-indulgent... or just up for a laugh - this does the trick everytime!!!
