X-Files-like Character Development with a Great Soundtrack

If you have a home theater system, crank it up. Though the 5.1 encoding leaves a bit to be desired, the stereo feed is good enough, especially with the subwoofer kicking in. As an owner of DVD discs 1-5, I have not been dissapointed. There are only six DVD discs, and no other TV episodes planned, but a feature is supposedly in the works.
The stories are well written, from the poignent, "Speak Like A Child" (DVD session 4) (Was I actually a bit weepy at the end??!?), to the wonderfully strange "Pierrot Le Fou" (DVD session 5) and silly, trippy "Mushroom Samba" and "Alien" take-off of "Toys in the Attic", this series never lets you down. Just like with the X-Files, some episodes are like 'conspiracy' episodes in that they focus on the characters pasts, which you may actually find interesting because the characters themselves are interesting. (There really are only three characters, "Jet", "Faye" and our here "Spike". "Ed" is there for comic relief and "Ein" is a dog...) Other epidodes focus on the profession of the BeBop crew which is "Bounty-hunting".
I especially like the way logic in the series isn't contradicted. IE: a fact created in one episode still holds true in later episodes. Some episodes are funny, some action packed, others are slow and melow. The chartacter development is great. The music is great. The stories are great.
Sink your teeth into disc one and then buy the rest.

Buy this and support Limp

I saw "Poop" at the Sacramento Family Values and I thought it was great. You got to see the guys as they are and not just as some "image". I didn't catch the entire thing as I was in the mosh pit about 2 yards from the stage.

Finally.. The Original UNCUT Sailor Moon Season 1

Sailor Moon has a bad reputation as a twee children's cartoon series. Hopefully the release of this 8 disc box set featuring all 46 uncut episodes (in Japanese Dialogue with English Subtitles) will help put the show's reputation to one side. The series features a group of five schoolgirls who can transform into Soldiers with special powers. Their goal is to stop the efforts of Queen Beryl and Queen Metallia who wish to take over the Earth and claim the legendary Silver Crystal. The animation varies from show to show but with the input of Ikuko Itoh (Maho Tsukai Tai) and Ando Masuhiro (Digimon Adventure) the quality is usually good.Hopefully ADV will hurry up and release Sailor Moon R (episodes 47 - 89)

Battlestar Galactica (2003 Miniseries) - movie DVD cover picture
What's not to like or love about this?

Being a huge fan of the original series, and one that forced himself to watch "Galactica 1980" back in the day, I was apprehensive about this miniseries. I've seen way too many series/miniseries based on past TV shows, or spinoffs of past television series, so I was really worried they would screw this up. Well, in short, they REALLY didn't. The storyline, the writers, the cast and the cgi are all incredible. With the possible exception of "Stargate SG-1" & "Babylon 5" (...the crown jewels of science fiction television, IMO), I haven't looked forward to a DVD release near as much. If the new series lives up to the promise delivered in the miniseries, the Sci-Fi Channel will have cornered the market of the best shows in the genre. And they assured a throng of more devoted viewers. Now, with this series, the next new season of "Stargate SG-1"and the new "Stargate Atlantis" to look forward to, it'll be easy to turn off the so-called "reality TV" crap the networks are trying to shove down our collective throats. This IS great science fiction, and moreover it's great drama. If you've never seen either the original "BsG" or this miniseries, by all means buy both. You will enjoy all the similarities and relish the differences too. This IS "must see DVD"!

A great music DVD

This DVD rocks!! This is absolutely the best music DVD that I own. It has the best sound, picture quality and user friendly menus! It has all the cool videos and a lot of extras. Some of the videos(One Step Closer, Papercut) are the european versions, cool. Extra tracks(My December, High Voltage, and a country western version of Closer). If you collect music DVD's, you have to have this one!

Special effects, things blowing up and extra footage!

The special edition if ID4 has both the original theatrical version and the 9 minute longer Special Edition which skews the story quite a bit. The original lacked details of some of the key characters lives and backgrounds and those extra 9 minutes certainly add a lot of it back in. Thankfully when assembling the Special Edition they didn't put all of the deleted scenes back in and they used the best ending (IMHO) while letting you still acess all of the left out scenes through the extra's menu. Bill Pulman, Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith still make a great combination of talents in what has to be one of the SFX extravaganzas of the decade. Of course you weren't getting this for the storyline, were you? :-)

The Family Man - movie DVD cover picture
Excellent Movie!!!

This is an under-rated, truly excellent film and I urge all to see it! One of my favorites of all-time! In addition to having such qualities as great acting, directing, and screenplay, THE FAMILY MAN teaches a beautiful and true message about life -- that money and material wealth do not give true happiness, but other things in life, like the love of a family, do. Nicholas Cage's happily-rich character thinks he has it all, until an angel gives him a glimpse of what his life would have been like had he taken another path..and gives him a taste of everything that he's been missing out on in life..the happiness from a not-rich loving family that is so much greater than what he got out of his big bucks before. The ending is one of the most moving, significant parts of the whole film. I urge you to see it and really think about the message that it gives people about life as you watch it. In addition to having all of this and being moving it is also very funny. Hopefully it will gain more appreciation (which it deserves) and one day become a classic! Kudos to everyone who worked on this wise & intelligent film! Many ages can enjoy this film..I'm 16 and love it. See it!

Cowboy Bebop rules

I bought the first session of CowBoy Bebop based on the reviews here at amazon. And if i am completely honest then i must say that i found the first 2 episodes a bit weird at first, and i even wondered if i should get the second dvd. But then i started to watch the third episode "Honky Tonk Women" and to my surprise the characters and story lines started to grow on me. After watching Episode 5 "Balled of fallen Angels" i must confess that i am now a big fan of the series. By now i am humming the Jazzy theme song and i am not even a big fan of jazz!
Cowboy Bebop despite the weird name is a very compelling anime that gets beter every time you see it. It has action, excitement, and the dark humor is excellent. If your looking for a new series then you can't go wrong with CowBoy Bebop.

In Living Color - Season 1 - movie DVD cover picture
Ah, the memories...

This was an outstanding show back in the day. It had an excellent run until the last season; the Wayans left and the skits simply were not all that funny (except for Duke the dog which is absolutely hysterical). So, the show was cancelled and for years, fans have been crying for this series to be released on DVD. It's finally here.
A few of the show's signature characters still had yet to be created, but Season one has Men on "...," Homey D. Clown, Vera De Milo and Anton; all terrific characters. I think the funniest skit on this particular season is Ted Turner's colorization of classic movies. For Casablanca, he adds a black Humphrey Bogart played by Keenan Ivory Wayans. He says, "Play it, Stevie." Suddenly, Stevie Wonder (played by Tommy Davidson) starts wailing out "As Time Goes By." It's hilarious! Seasons to follow would be a little funnier, but this first season isn't a bad way to start out. Keep in mind it's from 1990 and In Living Color was always spoofing current events, so some of it may be a bit dated (in one skit, Jesse Jackson is president in the year 2004). But if you loved the show then, it's a gem to own.
In Living Color pushed the envelope as far as it would go for network television and the results are splendid. It's the program Chappelle's Show WANTS to be.
