Grave of the Fireflies - movie DVD cover picture

I think this movie is one of the best anime movies ever made and that I have ever seen. This goes beyond the traditional anime style of mech, duel monstersor or martial arts crap kind of movies. Grave of the Fireflies is a very touching and emotional movie that takes anime to a very high step. This movie has an amazing story with alot of support in it. It has a very strong message. Keeps you on the screen from beginging to end. I highly reccomend this movie to any who likes war movies or anime.

A Must See! Don't Let Anyone Talk You Out Of It!

Contrary to what some might say this movie is wonderfully romantic as well as well written. It may be predictable but the acting and the dialog make for a movie well worth your time to see. Unlike most movies today Runaway Bride, has no sex scenes or other trash Hollywood uses to get ratings. Good show for everyone!

Throw my roundtrip tickets away, I have Hawaii right in my living room!

I just bought a brand new HD plasma and I cannot think of anything that is more complementary to it than HD Hawaii. It gives true meaning to Higher Definition. The compulation of shots and 5.1 digital sounds gives you the visualization and sensations of being in Hawaii. Problem I have with the DVD is that I cannot find anything else that even comes close to picture and sound quality. Just curious when part 2 is comming out?

This video is great. The story of the movie was well writen, the caracters are very well structured and Jodie is great as always. The director wanted to show how a relationship based in love changes a persons life and he did. Congratulations to the director, all the actors and specially to Jodie Foster.

The Karate Kid - movie DVD cover picture
Wonderful Martial Arts classic !

The Karate Kid is a metaphor for life. What would the youth of America be today if this series was not in existence. Personally, this movie changed my life forever. I was 10 the first time I came across this movie. I was sitting at my father's feet eating chips when Daniel was at the Halloween party in that awesome shower costume (I've dressed up in that same costume every year since to keep the spirit of the Karate Kid alive, I'm 33 now). Anyway, when Johnny and the rest of the Kobra Kai surround and start to attack Daniel, this is where my life was forever changed. Miyagi flies down from the fence with swan like grace and defeats the foes with gusto and fervor, without breaking a sweat. I turned in excitement towards my father to notice that he had tied his old, worn leather belt around his head. Before I had a chance to ask what he was doing he kicked me in the face and sent me flying into the television set, knocking the antenna to the floor. Groggy, I sttod up not knowing what happened. I look up to see him balancing himself on the arm of the couch and then drop kicking me in the heart, breaking a young rib. Doubled over with pain, he realized that I was in need of something. He picked me up by the hair, brought me an inch from his face and screamed, "First you suffer, then you suffer some more." I look away, ashamed at this display. He grabs my face and wrenches it towards him saying: "Do you have a problem with that Mr. Lawrence?" Before I respond he then hit me with a spin punch in my left temple, knocking me out for the next 2 and a half hours. When I finally awoke, I had learned from my mother, whom I later referred to only as Mrs. Laruso, or Mrs. L, that my father had gone on a quest to China to become a defender of freedom and virtue. He was never heard from again. The Karate Kid taught me discipline and defense. Thanks Daniel, Miyagi, Mrs. Laruso, Allison, Johnny and most of all Sensei John Creese!

Thirteen - movie DVD cover picture

I saw this movie for my first time over the summer. I must say, it hit way too close to home. When I was thirteen, my life was just like that. I got involved with drugs, alcohol, lies, sex, and all I ever did was want more. This movie is extremely realistic, despite what others are saying. I did not grow up nor have I ever lived in California, which is where the movie takes place, but from what I hear, it is just as bad in some schools (or in some crowds), as this movie potrays. I say that because L.A has one of the largest crime rates in America. Even big schools in great areas have the sames problems as the ones shown in this movie. If you in fact have not seen this movie, I would reccomend it to anyone. Everyone has been there, not neccesarily with the drugs and such, but have been at the age of thirteen, and have probably seen what this kind of stuff can do. And if you havnt, if you can persuade your parents to allow you to watch this movie, watch it. You will learn something from it. Parents, watch this with your kids. You do not understand how often this kind of stuff goes down. Very realistic. If only all people knew how common it is for this kind of stuff to be bought, sold, or used, and actually did something about it, our world would be a much, much better and safer place.

Undersea Kingdom -- Serial - movie DVD cover picture
Great, Beef-cake Extravangza!

I'll shamefully confess that although I've always been an addict of Republic's fabulous serials, I brought this one primarily because of its exploitation of the macho male hero. Ray "Crash" Corrigan is simply fascinating to watch in all of his virile glory. This Adonis should have been one of the great stars but Samuel Goldwyn turned him down as the lead in his big-budget production of "The Hurricane" because he was too muscular! So, we got Jon Hall instead--who wasn't bad looking at all--but Crash was bigger and more muscular and moved with stunning beauty. Some of the other warriors in this serial are very easy on the eye, too, especially the one that Crash saves from death. If Crash had only come along when Italian muscle men epics were in vogue, he would have been the biggest of them all. So would Buster Crabbe, another stunning male beauty who was relegated to the backwaters of Poverty Row because he was considered a "physical" star--as adverse to the skinny types who prevailed through the 30s and 40s.

Standard Bullock Film

If you like Sandra Bullock, you will like this movie, plain and simple. 28 DAYS is about a woman named Gwen (Sandra Bullock) who enters rehab after she gets before and during her sisters wedding, destroying a cake, and crashing a limo into someone's house. She enters rehab and there is a lot of conflict when she doesn't mingle well with the other patients, and refuses to participate in their chants or chores. Eventually she comes around, befriending others in her group. Through flashbacks we see where Gwen's problems may have come from. There is plenty of comedic moments in the movie, making it funny, but the movie also has a dramatic edge. It's a fun Bullock film fans of the actress will love.

Seriously...FOX doesn't get it

Every now and then a show comes along that enthralls viewers in such a way that it creates a cultish phenomenon (Similar to Farscape). Joss Wheedon is a master at creating such works (Buffy, Angel). I watched all of the episodes within about 2 days (Stayed up to 3 AM the last day). Every single episode is truly unique, fun, and humorous. The characters are completely individual with their own motivations, and one of them turns on the crew occasionally. Some of the villians are shown just the right amount of times to create the "book-like" effect of letting your mind create the horrifying image of them instead of the show feeding it to you (I'm thinking about the reevers). Joss is also a master at prolonged suspense, and every episode will have you on the edge of your seat at one point...or for the entire thing. One thing is for certain: When you buy this set you will hate FOX forever for making a blatantly moronic decision in promoting the show wrong, airing episodes out of order, and cutting the show because they didn't put it in appropriate time slots. You will love this show so much that after the last episode you might nearly break down because you know there isn't any more to watch. But.. on September 30th, the Serenity movie will be in theatres. You will love owning this set and DONT STOP THE SIGNAL!
