Wonderful energy

Soft Cell has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. My taste in music leans strongly towards hard rock and old school punk, but Soft Cell has always had a place in my collection of CD's.
I was absolutely blown away by this DVD. I have a reasonably large collection of live performances on DVD, and this is one of the best. The energy is phenomenal. The sound quality is first rate.
Soft Cell has become more than just a guilty pleasure for me; now, I truly respect them as a band and as performers.
Great stuff!!

Sarah Brightman - Live from Las Vegas - movie DVD cover picture

Sarah is so awsome and this concert is amazing. Hew voice is beautiful and her production is huge and lavish. The best songs are "The Journey Home," "A Question of Honor," and "The War is Over." I do have to make the unfortunate note that the above reviewers are correct in that something is wrong with the video quality of the DVD. If you have a sharp eye for DVD quality you will notice a cloudy grainy picture other than when there is fog onstage or sarah is behind a scrim. The DVD is STILL A MUST for Sarah fans. Sound and presentation is excellent.

Miyazaki's Masterpiece Spirited Away

I am a huge Miyazaki fan but this one was just amazaing, his best work yet personally.I read soem other reviews saying they didn't like it because it scared their children and it was too weird. Its true this movie has a lot of scary parts and some people said it was "dark" which it isn't at all!Its truly a beautiful movie but I would reccomend your child would be 10+up for some parts even freaked me out.Amazing Animation, but some people said"the characters were to mean" such as her parents"they yell too much" one person said. You can hardly call them yelling its true they wern't perfect parents liek in some others and they did care about Chihiro but theyre like most parents in my hoem town they don't really care what their children do so they seemed real to me."Yubaba was too cruel" When her baby was goen she worried like a real mother you have to expect her to get angry ,wouldn't you if your child((if you don't have a child just pretend))) went missing, she was just worried and seriously after Sen ((Chihiro)) cleaned the Stink Spirit she started to appreciate her more, and ok soem characters such as HA-Noshi((No Face)) might scare soem children I thought he looked creppy before I saw the movie but now he's my favorite character and by the end he wasn't truly evil and personally I never thought he really wanted to hurt Chihiro.I'm not doing this to complain to people who don't like it i'm just saying open your mind and see the beauty of this movie such as the part when Haku remembered who he was, and if you think the characters are cruel remember Zeniba's kindness towards Sen and No-Face, and how even though No-Face attacked her she tried to help him, also remember the comedy parts in it "seriously they are hilarious!"AND ITS ON OVER 90 TOP TEN LISTS!THAT HAS TO TELL YA SOMETHING!Pretty much this is a great movie which even beat his previous movie Mononoke Hime((second fav!!!)).

An amazing movie...

This movie is an amazing piece of art. Both the book and the movie are favorites of mine. I have to disagree with ilsej. If they had read the book or watched the movie they would realize both book and movie were against afrikaaners. This movie taught me so much about the world and I would recommend it to everybody.

He did it again!

Of course, any movie that Harrison Ford appears in is sure to be a hit. This movie just proves it. He is, again, outstanding as Jack Ryan. No one else could have played this part.

Eating Ourselves to Death

Spurlock, the narrator and hero of this documentary, sacrifices his body for one month by eating only McDonald's food three times a day and watches in horror as his triglycerides, cholesterol, body weight, liver fat, and other toxic signs shoot up off the charts, shocking his doctors and nutritionists who monitor his "progress." The documentary effectively demonstrates that America has once again become dysfunctional in its habits, specifically the way we unquestionably consume huge portions of fat- and sugar-laden foods. I think the unhealthy effects of eating at McDonalds are obvious and predictable however. What really makes this film worth seeing is Spurlock's look into public school cafeterias and the slop that is fed the students who are inculcated and conditioned into horrific eating habits that will impact them for the rest of their lives. Also disturbing, the huge contracts the public schools make with the food companies who could care less about our health as they inundate us with calorie-dense foods that are packaged in ways to tempt children. In fact, Super Size Me is at its best when it confronts the ways children are brainwashed into obesity. If you're interested in this film, a good companion book is Fat Land by Gregory Critser, which explores the causes of our nation's obesity epidemic.

To The Chump

To The Chump (Keith Whitener):

Thanks for suggesting that we punch someone in the face for recommending these classic comedy shorts.

Someday, when you grow up, you will understand that Fields provides a unique form of humor, far ahead of his time. In fact, his only limitation was the technology of his day. His feature-length films would be number-one at the box office if he were alive and making movies today.

His classic story line, "total loser prospers in spite of himself" and underlying themes can only be described as classic and has been copied countless times. It couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow.

I love The Stooges and Laurel & Hardy as much as anyone. But your reference to the Marx Brothers was clearly off base, as their humor is very similar to Fields'.

When you mature, you will discover that Fields' escapades are legendary. Perhaps someday you will experience adult situations that will give you an appreciation of the classics you have viewed.

One of the Best I've Seen in a While.

With so much anime coming out in Japan, it's hard to really be able to watch them all or even a large fraction of them. Then you also take into consideration the fact that another fraction is taken to come to America. From all this, a gem comes along and that's exactly what Fruits Basket is. Fruits Basket is definitely one anime that people should see.
Fruits Basket, spanning 26 episodes, is the story of a high school girl, Tohru Honda, who lives by herself in a tent outside now that her mother had passed away in an accident and her grandfather was staying with other relatives. Tohru is an extremely sincere, naive, compassionate person. How anyone could portray such depth to these feelings in one person is beyond me. She gets these from her mother who she loved deeply. She stayed true to her words and morals and to help others and be herself. The last thing she ever wanted to be was a burden on others and that is why she doesn't tell her friends about her living situation. Her whole life changed after being able to stay with the "Prince" Yuki Souma and relative, Shigure. The twist is that the Souma family has the curse of the Juunishi, The Twelve Animals of the Chinese Zodiac. When hugged by the opposite sex, they will change into their respective animal counterpart. The Soumas all have problems in their lives that all come down to their curse. Yet, Tohru has this amazing ability to help all of them with their problems. It's very heartwearming and definitely a tear-jerker.
I must say that it is a little weird that Funimation has picked up this title. For those who don't know, Funimation specializes in releasing more action-oriented titles like Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, and later on, One Piece. Picking up a more emotional title was a total surprise. The problem I have with this DVD is that the packaging does not look pleasing at all. The logo for Fruits Basket seems too ordinary and does nothing for the cover. The picture of Tohru just doesn't seem right for a cover art. I think it would have been better to showcase more cast of characters with at least a contrasting background of trees or something else.
This anime is relatively new so the visual quality should be nice. The theme songs are very nice. Both the opening and ending fit the story very well. It relates to the characters and the story and is very mellow and soft which fits with the emotional aspects.
Another problem I have with this release is the fact the price goes for a retail of 40 dollars. It's good that they released 6 episodes on this DVD but 40 dollars is just too much. Many other companies have released 5-7 episodes with just the normal retail price of 30 dollars. I guess I could understand if there were extras added with the DVD but I don't think there is.
Final Note: Even through the higher price, this is a show that is really amazing. If you love emotional and light-hearted anime, then this is for you. If you just like action or any others, then give it a try. It really wouldn't hurt. You might find yourself falling in love with it too. Words just really can't express the way I feel about this anime and I don't want to spoil anything but in ways, it really is like "Chicken Soup for your Soul."

The end of an era, captured beutifully!

To paraphrase a song by The Band. "A hippie's dream..if I ever did see one". Filmed in 1976, The Last Waltz captures the end of an era beautifully. The lighting has a dream-like quality to it. I guess if our generation died and went to heaven, this would be the closest thing. It centers around The Band and their magnificent musicians (Robertson, Danko, Helm, Manuel and Hudson) plus great performances by Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, the great Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Dr. John, Emmylou Harris and more! The DVD also includes audio commentaries, behind the scenes features and great digital audio. After 1976, we were bombarded with disco, new wave, and punk leading us into the techno 80's. This film represents the music of the post-hippy late 60's and early 70's best. It is intelligent rock music performed by my some of the greatest names in rock history. This is one of the finest music films ever made. It comes across more like a movie than a concert and offers us a greater depth of understanding behind the personalities that dominated and influenced music during that period. Outstanding!

All Director's Tracks Should Be This Good!

I admit I was waiting a while for this disc to come out. I was in no way dissapointed by this great Troma release. I had no idea that the show was ever done live, but to actually see it, I tell ya I got chills. This movie is truley the precursor to South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. Now if only that disc had a Director's track.
