Wonderful

I actually watched the DVD rather than the theater release. The best part of any DVD package are the extras, and there are three. One is a featurette on the making of the movie that's charming. One is a short featurette showing the director and her mom and aunt making Aloo Gobi. The high point is, of course, the audio commentary, and here the director and her non-Indian husband add their unique and interesting perspective. The viewer can see the movie again through a different pair of eyes, which is why it's a darn shame closed captioning doesn't pick up their comments. As for the movie itself, everyone's pretty much given away the story, so I won't. Anyone reading my reviews on a regular basis knows I love coming-of-age movies. I've seen some of the best, and I think this movie ranks right up there with them. Even though older kids are involved in this one, I found the movie very charming. It features a culture clash on several levels: traditonal and modern, British and Asian, even young and older. But what prevails in the end is the love a family has for one another. It's a good story that younger viewers who are ready for more mature stories can see. I recommend it highly.

The reason DVD was created

The DVD version of "Forbidden Planet" does extreme justice to this incredible movie which is one of the best science-fiction films ever made, and my personal favorite. It captures the film's original brilliance with crystal-clear sound and picture and offers a variety of options which prove the greatness of the DVD format. Offering both Widescreen AND Pan & Scan (which extremelly diminishes the beautiful cinematography) as well as both English and French versions [NOTE: watching the French version with English subtitles can increase the viewer's feelings of superiority and overall pretentiousness.] This DVD truly is the reason the format was created.

Claude Jade is brilliant in this bitter Doinel-Adventure.

It's one of the best movies, I'll ever seen. The couple of "Stolen Kisses", Jean-Pierre L?aud and Claude Jade, is brilliant. You want to the how a director MUST work with actors? See this bitter comedy about the marriage.

Good Movie

Christina Crawford, adopted daughter of the late Joan Crawford, has a right to tell her side of the story. "Mommie Dearest" is based not only on her life, but her mother's as well. The movie not only portrays a woman who wants to be on top in Hollywood and in her personal life, but a daughter who put up with her abuse and drama. Having adopted two blond-haired and fair-skinned children would give her more exposure in the public eye and make her the epitome of glamour.
Christina imitates everything that Joan does, which she takes personally. Children imitate what they see and Joan couldn't allow for her daughter to act out as a child does. Joan's life was tormented by her own mother and it passed down to her by the way she treated both Christina and Christoper.
Christopher is rarely shown in the movie, except as a child and at the mother's funeral. What was it like for Christopher to live under his celebrity mother? Perhaps we will never know. Maybe he will be able to talk of his childhood under her.
"Mommie Dearest" is a complex story of a mother-daugther relationship that was filled with abuse and admiration. Faye Dunaway does an outstanding performance as the legendary actress.

FANTASTIC sound and picture quality!

This updated version of the classic Terminator movie is by far the best this movie's ever been. The sound and picture quality on this DVD are top notch, and you'd never guess the movie is over 15 years old. The sound must be heard to be believed, with the remixed 5.1 digital making good use of all surround sound channels. I personally rent for the extras and buy for the picture/sound quality, but the extras on here are very nice as well.

Great show for families

Emergency! is an excellent show that the whole family can watch together without worrying mom and dad.

Jack webb and the actors did an excellent job presnting a realistic view of the paramedic program, yet not too real so that people would be squeamish while viewing the hosptial scenes.

Fans of St. Elsewhere and ER can also see what inspired those shows as well.

Scrooge - movie DVD cover picture
A classic and unforgettable film...

THE best holiday film ever, period. Albert Finney is simply amazing, a true chameleon and one of the world's best actors in the role he was meant to play. Alec Guiness is astonishing as Marley's ghost; he is both horrendous and slyly comic in one of the greatest supporting performances of all time.Incredible set design, cinematography, costumes, and (of course), music--the classic, "Thank You Very Much" is one of the catchiest tunes ever written for a film.Atmospheric, frightening, heartbreaking, and ultimately life-affirming, 'Scrooge' is the one film I must see every holiday season. Ebenezer's Christmas morning redemption and resultant joyous sleigh ride through the snowy streets of Victorian London is a sequence which ranks among the best scenes in movie history. It simply would not be Christmas without this brilliant and vastly underrated film. Enjoy!

Dot Hack Sign Volume Four: Ominpotence.

Though the episodes that are on this DVD, episodes 15 to 18, have not yet released in the US, I have seen these (along with the rest of the series). Although the Japanese and English dialog differs slightly, it does not change the story between the two releases, and I feel that I can give an accurate review of this DVD. These episodes concentrate on the development of the various characters in Dot Hack Sign, and the history behind some of them are explained. Dot Hack Sign DEVELOPS SLOWLY, so do not expect anything major to happen...though there are some pretty big twists in this volume. It is not until the next three DVDs that the mysteries behind The World begin to unravel in earnest. The First episode of the next volume, "Tempest," sets the stage for the end of Dot Hack Sign, and in consequence the beginning of the Dot Hack Playstation 2 games and Dot Hack Liminality. It is to be noted that the rest of the Dot Hack Sign DVDs only have four episodes. Only the first two volumes have five episodes, and the remaining four volumes (including this one) only have four episodes. I do not think this was entirely necessary, because I think they cut out one episode called "Evidence" that was between "Castle" (which ends the last DVD, Gestalt [German for "shape," if you were wondering]), and "Depth," which begins this DVD. This episode that seem to be cut out only reflects back on "Castle" and the previous events in Dot Hack Sign, so it is no great loss. I'm not positive, though, but I am judging this based off of the "next episode" ending sequence following "Castle" on the Gestalt DVD. It says the next episode is "Depth," clearly bypassing "Evidence." This would mean there are only 25 episodes, but the original count could have been ignoring Evidence because nothing happens in it. At any rate, great DVD!
Recommended to: Dot Hack fans, or people who love long and intricate stories that develop slowly (those people should buy Dot Hack Sign volumes 1, 2, and 3 as well)
Not recommended to: People who dislike Dot Hack Sign, or people who dislike stories that develop slowly. There isn't any action or violence in this DVD, so don't be upset if you get it and end up regretting it. Dot Hack Sign is more about story than animation.
