What a shock!

The biggest shock that came from this movie was how good it was. I came upon it on Amazon a few days ago and thought it sounded interesting so I found the site and watched the trailer. I had it sent overnight to me to have for Halloween. I have not been a big fan of Werewolf movies in the past but this one is not your typical movie. The story is great, the effects work nice, and the acting is right on target. This isn't another terrible teen horror slasher film. This is a really smart film from start to finish. It is funny, disturbing and all around very entertaining and well worth your time. I am going to watch it again right now, this movie deserves all the attention in the world, to bad America didn't get it in theatres because this is easily the best new movie I have seen over the past 6 months. Buy this movie now!

Gotta Knock a Little Harder!

A man who lived in dreams, that's what he was...

After being delayed for over a year, our favorite bounty hunters come to the big screen in North America. I was lucky enough to see this in a movie theater, and damn was it worth it. Sure i had to travel an hour by train to see it in Times Square, but hey, it was that good. The movie in question is "Cowboy Bebop", and as a huge fan of the series, I was definetly salivating with seeing these characters on the silver screen.

Taking place between sessions 22 and 23 of the series, the film definetly does not feel out of place or just "stuck in" but a natural part of the series' tapestry.

Halloween, 2071. The movie starts out simple enough, in a scene that establishes who Spike Spiegel is and what he does, for those who don't know, he's a Bounty Hunter. He and his partner Jet Black take down an armed robber gang as the movie opens, and then we et to the real plot.

Enter Vincent, a mysterious villain in black, who blows up a tanker truck unleashing what seems to be an airborne virus which kills dozens and hospitalized hundreds more. The government of Mars puts a 300 Million Woolong reward for his capture, and the only one who's seen him pull off this attack and could indentify him is our badass vixen: Faye Valentine. Naturally, Faye decides to go after him on his own.

Sounds simple, but this movie is a lot deeper than that. There's a lot of twists and turns, conspiracies within conspiracies as Spike ends up teams up with a former soldier named Electra (who is also hiding secrets connecting her to Vincent) to take Vincent down before he unleashes his weapon on the entire Mars population

While the entire main cast is in it, this is definetly Spike and Faye's show, which Electra and Vincent end up sharing with them. And though they don't have as much to do this go, Jet, Ed and Ein are along for the ride and have their moments in the sun.

The plot is great, the animation is just gorgious, and the voice-acting is better than most American animated series and movies. The voice-actors from the series easily fall back into their roles, and you could watch this between Sessions 22 and 23 and it plays perfectly within the series. And as I mentioned in my series review, the English dub is actually superior to the original Japanese in this case.

The DVD release was nicely done with great extras talking to the series creators, Yokko Kanno and the voice actors from both sides of the Pacific. If all you've seen is a bootleg, the DVD is easily worth the $25 to pick up. Oh, and it's just known as "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie" here in the States. Apparantly Bob Dylan's lawyers did not approve of the title.

Are you living in the real world?

"Do I have a car? Ladies--I have a van!"

" Rare Marquis D'sade, dude." I've been reciting lines from this movie to various friends, co-workers and family members for 12 years now. Say what you want about this flick. Many will describe it as this American Wonder, a motion picture masterpiece, but I took some film classes, and just like the characters in the movie, I've figured it all out.

"We've been on Mars since '62." Once you see the movie for, like, the 17th time, you've already noticed the mistakes, shortcomings and shortcuts throughout. How about the "Beautiful Losers" guy...when he first enters the movie...those others were going through the crazy post cards left behind, and he knocks on the door. The others open it to let him 'in,' and he enters the room...from a bathroom?!?! That had a chain lock on it?!??! Why was he locked in the bathroom?!?!?!

"QuadraJet. Yup. GM." There's something really cool about the mishaps, though. The characters are so odd, yet familiar...isn't it always the chick with the black eye who trusts the advice from a mystical card game and has developed "a whole new construct..."?!?!?! ...old people who rant about assassinations, the Spanish War and anarchy and are totally full of **it??!!? ...stoners yapping about Scooby-Doo conspiracies and blue Kr'shnas??? The girl from the book store had it right, when she summed up the friend who just met her after watching his friend throw a tent into a river. She says, "you pull from all the **** that you read..." Doesn't that describe everyone in this movie? And how about the tent scene--in any other movie, his friends would be convincing him to stab the guy who screwed his girlfriend with a tent peg. Not in this film. These intellectual do-nothings philosophize about it. They discuss their entire lives away.

Doesn't it decribe anybody who went to college and got real HIGH and ate acid at 21? We may not have been total do-nothings, but it's that manipulative stage of life where you try to talk your way into everything...bars, dorms, beds, etc. In High School, it seems like we spend all our time talking our way out of everything. I'm 33 now and still can't get enough of this movie. I love watching RL's "dazed & confused" to just watch the geeks...they are a little piece of "Slacker" throughout the whole film!

If you live in a big city, this movie makes so much more sense to you. Especially if you also lived near or went to a university. It's so much more realistic than any of the other countless "college" movies...21 year-olds, sitting around, eating yesterday's pizza and debating last week's news...they have the economy, the crisis in the middle east, and the water company figured out, even though they haven't figured out how to pry the frozen hotdogs out of the block of ice stuck inside the freezer.

I love all the cult classics, and their writers...Lynch, Kubrick, Tarentino, even the Coen brothers, and this movie is a must have. Hey parents: this is what your kids talk about when they're tripping.

And if anyone ever asks you your name, tell them, "that's s-t-e-V-e."

Surprisingly good

If there is any season of TNG that is worse than the first, it is the 2nd. They still have the stupid tight uniforms, the ridiculous and corny plots and storylines, and they also have one of the worst characters ever in Dr. Pulaski. I really cannot stand her at all. The only real improvement over the first season is the fact that Tasha Yar is now gone. If Pulaski was the worst character, than Yar was the 2nd worst. There a few good episodes interspersed throughout the season, but for the most part, I still can't watch the show at this point. the next season is when Star Trek actually got good. If I end up buying this season (and I am a completist, so i may end up doing so eventually) I will probably never even watch the episodes.

A different take on the suspense thriller...

I saw Snake Eyes when it was in the theaters and I was impressed. Nicolas Cage gives an unusual performance that only he could act. Gary Sinise is also very good. This DVD is great in the Dolby Digital 5.1 because you get all of the atmospheric sounds that are in the movie's storyline. A great film that is worthy of being a DVD.

The idea that a interstelar passageway like on the movie, Stargate, exists is what makes me like this movie a whole lot. I saw it in the theatre when it came out, and now I finally went out and bought the DVD. I love it and the TV series of it too.

Clean - Smooth - Jazz...

I agree with Daniel A. Hess. I am a long time Lee Ritenour fan, and have everything he has released on vinyl, CD, VHS and DVD. The VHS/DVD's vary in quality and performance. Some have good video and fair audio. Some have good audio and fair video. The perfomance, camera work and audio are excellent here, and they look like they're really having fun performing together. Even though I am also a Larry Carlton fan, I wish Lee had stayed with Fourplay. The only drawback is this should have a Dolby 5.1 or DTS soundtrack.

A few corrections to the "christian"

The best childrens christmas video I 've seen. We-my son is 5 and a half-watch it throughout the year because it is one I never get tired of and laugh every time. It is not just comedy either but very sweet and filled with feeling. Same quality as the British Wallace and Gromit videos. A gem!
