What a Waste

I saw the ShockUMentary and also saw the movie Party Monster. As I went to college in Michael Alig's hometown of South Bend,IN, and being that I am always interested in how and why people become the way they are, I wanted to see how this seemingly average Hoosier evolved into the fabled Club Kid / toast of New York / killer. If I were 17 and back in those days I would probably think he was a god leading me and whoever else to the most fantastic way of life imaginable. But, life can't be a party 24 hours a day, and this is proof positive of it.

It is truly horrifying to see how low a human being can go, and it evokes such anger that they choose this for themselves. Each and every one of the main characters in this glamour world are self destructive, self centered, and desperately crying out for attention. And sure, we've all done something like this in the past whether it's using drugs, dressing wild, or misbehaving somehow, but unlike Michael Alig, we all grow up. And guess what? Being responsible, paying your bills on time, having a job, and DOING something with yourself rather than staying in a constant state of squalid ugliness is COOL!

Something that really bothered me at the end of this documentary was the fact that Alig showed no remorse for what he had done, and the others who were indirectly connected to it didn't express much concern either. Yes, Alig was the only one who committed the crime, but no one said "How terrible ...", "If only ...", "Such a tradgedy ...", etc. The only one who shed a tear for Angel was his brother. Everyone's moved on, but there is clearly a part of Alig that clings to the past and a spark of hope that he can reclaim it. And maybe he will once he gets out, but he'll be a middle aged man hanging around teenagers by then.

Maybe that's the real horror of the story.

Sneakers...Sneaks in 5 Stars!!

SNEAKERS is a great caper flick with minimal violence and an ensemble cast one would never expect would ever be put on screen. Who would think that a movie would contain the likes of Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, David Strathairn (Eight Men Out, League of Their Own), Mary McDonnell (Dances with Wolves), River Phoenix (Dog Fight, Stand by Me), and the great Sidney Poitier to boot. It's fun, light, and suspensful. Redford heads a group of high tech misfits who troubleshoot and hack security systems. They are hired by a renegade government agency to steal a device that can decipher electronic coded messages developed by a mathematical genius, but get caught up into something more sinister than they bargained for as people begin getting kidnapped and murdered. Great characters including Dan Aykroyd's tailor made 'Mother' who sprouts off any conspiracy theory at whim, David Straithairn's blind hacker 'Whistler' whose ears can "see" more than anyone's eyes and whose only need in life is peace and good will towards his fellow man, and a great cameo by Ben Kingsley as the vengeful 'Cosmo' who is behind all the evil doings. Overall, a great cast, great script and first class entertainment!!

Willl go down in History

This movie has a guarenteed nomination for Best Screenplay. The ending is one that will make you want to view the movie once more after finishing it. The best thriller since The Usual Suspects. Guy peirce has never been better and I believe that we will see more gold from Chistopher Nolan in the future.

"if I told you, you wouldn't eat it"( Hannibal Lecter)

Red Dragon is my second favorite film from the Hannibal Lecter trilogy, the first being the silence of the lambs. This movie once again portrays Thomas Harris's novel which I just started reading. This is the first of the trilogy even though it was released last. This is when Hannibal Lecter is captured for the first time by William Graham played by Edward Norton. Anthony Hopkins is at his best while Harvey Keitel plays the best Jack Crawford yet. But of course, once in prison, Will Graham must interview Lecter, trying to find information on a new killer.
Graham was on the verge of retiring when he decided to come back to the force. What's good about this movie is that it isn't disturbing like the other two, so a larger range of people could problably watch it.
What distinguishes this one from the others is that you see the killer's battle against himself. Ralph Fiennes plays the killer with lots of force, and he tries to conquor himself and his anger. He basically does everything a painting tells him to do, but once he starts seeing a blind lady for whom he falls for, he tries to stop doing what he does.
The movie has MANY amazing scenes and sequences and the conclusion makes your heart beat as much as the silence of the lambs did. It's not as good as the remarquable silence of the lambs, but saying that it's almost as good as it, that's pretty remarquable itself.

Terrific film.

NOWHERE IN AFRICA shed light, for me, on a chapter of the Holocaust of which I was unaware. At the beginning of the Nazis' oppression of the Jews, some German Jewish families migrated to Kenya, abandoning their lives, jobs and livelihoods to live off the land - despite their lack of knowledge about the land or any farming skills.
Narrated by a young girl, the film stars the beautiful, talented Juliane Kohler as the girl's mother, Jettel. Her character's transformation from spoiled young society wife in Germany into a resourceful, passionate and mature woman willing to protect her husband and family through any means is amazing. With Jettel's story firmly at the heart of the film, the beauty of the cinematography and other stories of this family's struggle prove compelling.
I highly recommend this.

Oh Come ON!

This is a great movie. It's funny, well written and tells a wonderful story. However, I'm sick of this steryotype crap. Give me a break people, this movie was made a long time ago, when they made movies with a decent story line, and didn't compromise that to make all the poor little people happy. Looses up. Don't talk to your kids about it being "wrong" or "evil" what next burn it 'cos it's offensive? Give me a break. Let peoople make movies properly, and don't worry about offending everyone in the world. Most people aren't offended and out dumber those that for whatever reason are. Get a life.

PORNOGRAPHY

This film is essentially well acted porn. From what I've read, the scenes of copulation and fellatio were filmed on different days than the ones depicting the mainstream actors.

It is sexually explicit. While it may not show penetration up close, it shows penetration anyway. It also shows male orgasm while fellating occurs.

If you don't know what these words mean, then you're simply looking for porn.

If you're looking for a developed story, search elsewhere.
