Watch Your Step In Here, It's Dark

Man, what can I say that hasn't already been said. This was a great horror experience. And this is truly the only version on film that represents Shirley Jackson's original novel. It is a dark and frightening place these unsuspecting people step into, and it only gets worse.
Hill House is haunted, and a parapsychologist (Richard Johnson) chooses three other "researchers" to help him investigate what exactly is going on in this house. However, none of them are prepared for what will unfold.
The cast is superb, with Julie Harris playing a vulnerable "runaway" adult trying to gain respect and freedom for herself. Richard Johnson is the brave, level-headed researcher, hoping to find proof of life-after-death. Claire Bloom, sexy and unpredictable, plays the self-reliant psychic with a secret of her own. Russ Tamblyn as the synic turned believer. And watch for a surprising appearance of Louise Maxwell, Bond's Miss Moneypenny.
The film is a black-and-white masterpiece of gathering darkness and horror. Robert Wise fought Warner Brothers to keep the movie in black-and-white at a time when all major studios were insisting on color. The DVD presents the film in its original widescreen aspect ratio. The camera work here is tricky and masterful, catching you with odd angles and directions that cause a vague, and growing sense of angst, very much like the narrative in Shirley Jackson frightening novel. The sound quality is excellent. And the extras on this DVD are exceptional, with a full-length commentary including Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, Richard Johnson, Russ Tamblyn, Director Robert Wise and screenwriter Nelson Gidding.
Turn out the lights kids, it's the only way to meet this thing; in the dark.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em

This DVD collects all three of Pantera's previously released home videos (Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Video, and 3: Watch it Go) and as a DVD bonus contains concert footage from Pantera's Monsters of Rock performance in Moscow which took place nearly 10 years ago. All three videos are hilarious and we get to see what kind of a fun lovin' bunch Pantera can be. Lookout for cameos appearences from Suicidal Tendencies, Alice in Chains, Rob Halford, Kerry King of Slayer, Prong, White Zombie, Crowbar, Skid Row, Megadeth, Trent Reznor (in the most hilarious part of the videos), and Marilyn Manson among others. While this is a great DVD to have, there is one big problem, you cannot skip between chapter selections like you can with other DVD's. That alone will determine how you feel about this DVD. If you already own all three of the single home videos, there is no sense in buying this, but if you don't and you own a DVD player and love Pantera, give this a shot.

Powerhouse film will enhance your DVD collection

I will admit to being a huge fan of Pulp Fiction from my first 10 minutes into the theater and getting yanked by my shirt colllar into the story and not being released until the final credit rolled. OK, so I'm biased.'s not without well-earned bias. This movie easily qualified as an instant classic. The story is top notch, even though it comes in several different, smaller packages, Tarantino earns his directing stripes in effortlessly taking these seemingly random tales and believably weaving them all together. The acting/casting doesn't leave any stone unturned (It's Uma Thurman's best performance to date, Samuel Jackson WAS the best supporting actor winner that year, even if they didn't give him the trophy. Even Willis demonstrates some wicked acting chops in a beautifully understated performance. Christopher Walken, too, provides the most satisfying and memorable cameo!), and even the choppy editing style works.
Casual movie lovers will enjoy this as just a great film. Movie fanatics will love this DVD for the satisfying extras it provides.
Too good a DVD for you to pass up!

We need more family movies.

Being African-American,I was told by one of my best white friends to see this movie.I watched it when it came on TV the first time and I sat through the entire three hours. The movie was well written and acted. But the story was so powerful the impact stayed with me for nearly a week.I felt like I was hit by every speeding train and 18 wheeler on this world. If you are a parent and don't want to teach your child racism,W-A-T-C-H T-H-I-S M-O-V-I-E.Better yet, have your child watch this movie and tell them the truth about the history of what story the movie is telling and those whose lives were impacted by this event.

Deep, silent and disturbing

Lain is definitely no ordinary anime. Besides the fact that most of the time the main character is still - staring at her computer screen - almost every scene hides a foresight of a future drama, a quiet yet creepy whisper of a world rumbling down, as Lain gets into the secrets of the wired network and learns about who she really is. A must-see for even those who don't like anime - most worshiped real-motion films around there are no match for this spectacular animation.

Absolutely Genius

This movie has been panned by critics everywhere, and made like nothing at the box office. Yet, despite that, I still have watched this movie probably more than any other. It is the most enjoyable movie I have ever seen.
Kevin Smith took Clerks to a larger scale in essence with this movie. And he made the ultimate casting decision...Jason Lee. Lee OWNS this movie! And that is saying a lot. There are some great perfrormances in there aside from Lee, but Brodie is like an icon now. His delivery on scenes such as the kid on the escalator is absolutely priceless. Lee's facial expressions and mannerisms are hysterical.
Of course Jay and Silent Bob provide some great laughs, but the funniest support comes from Ethan Suplee as Willem. The scenes featuring the magic eye are priceless, especially the one with the small children...Suplee's reaction is my all time favorite moment in any movie, period.
Though he isn't exactly a villain, Michael Rooker is the perfect antagonist. His role as Mr. Svenning is hysterical.
The movie is great...the dialogue, interaction, and timing is great. It will have you on the floor.
The DVD has some hysterical extras, especially the cast commentary, which could almost be considered funnier than the movie (which is saying a whole lot). The deleted scenes are also quite funny, and the look back at how and why it tanked at the box office are informative and entertaining.
Watch this will not be disappointed.

This movie really shows what those guys were going thru.

This movie is the best. It follows the book very well. It is one of the best descriptions of the war ever filmed or written, even though it was made in 1930. I just wish they had shown some of the early tanks. I would give it six stars if that were possible.

Clueless - movie DVD cover picture

Ok, so maybe I'm a guy and just don't understand these things - that's a perfectly acceptable explanation to my mind. But I found this movie extremely boring except for one tiny little line where Alicia says (thinks rather) "Ooh! I wonder if they have that in my size?" I found that line really funny because of its stereotypical portrayal of an American teen. I dunno, I just found the movie was dummer than "Dumb and Dumber". No way is it a good movie, but, hey, maybe some girl out there will like it - I know I didn't.

Good deal

Like many others, I wish there were more extras in this set (there's a lot of room on 5 DVDs that just isn't used). And I would like to catch up with Europe where they are seasons ahead of the US. But for the price, and to have that many episodes in a little box, I can't complain. You get what you pay for.
